My Russian will not have to compete with anyone....if i get her , i am hanging onto her with both hands , and i ain,t going to be looking at anyone else.... just her voice makes my toes curl... there is something about a Russian accent...must be all those James bond films i used to watch....!

Life / RUSSIAN WOMAN IN POLAND....welcome...or not...? [33]

meet her along one of the roads in eastern poland by any chance?

No , actually i got birthday greetings from her on my website , i wrote back , and before long we were chatting for hours and hours every night on skype , she is pretty , inteligent , and we are as compatable as two people can be... We hope to meet face to face very soon , but for the moment its just an internet romance..feels good though , and i think its going somewhere... early days yet...!

Life / RUSSIAN WOMAN IN POLAND....welcome...or not...? [33]

Just supposing my current romance with a lovely Moscow born Russian developes into something permanant , and we decide to live together in Poland , what do Polish forum members think will be the reaction of Local Poles...

I am well aware that oppression by the Russians is much more recent in Polish history than German occupation , so is there widespread resentment of Russian people....

I have no doubt that my close Polish friends will judge her as a person , and not care where she is from , she is a nice person , and i am sure will make friends easily...

However , i live on the edge of a small village , where they are not so used to non Polish people being around , although , i have not had any problems with being an Englishman living here....

I would value the opinions of Polish people on the forum....

Love / Met a Polish girl on the Internet, and I'm soon off to meet her... [82]

I have chatted to lots of lovely ladies on the net....only met up with one of them , a Latvian lady who moved into my house....For two weeks it was perfect , then her insane jealousy surfaced , and made each day a nightmare.....I hung in there for two months , but eventually had to put her on a bus back to Latvia to save my sanity , what there is left of it....

Despite this , i belive there can be the right one out there , just a matter of luck to find the right one...!

Travel / What should I wear in winter in Poland? [29]

I was wondering if I could get away with normal boots,

That depends on what your plans are in Poland,,,if you are just going to pop out now and then to the shops , or to a local bar , they will probably be fine , but if you are going out in the snow on a regular basis , or walking in the countryside , you need some proper boots...As for jeans , Denim is not a good material for keeping warm...

Travel / What should I wear in winter in Poland? [29]

Hi Anni , welcome to the forum...I am a guy , and a biker , so i know zero about fashion , but having served a few years in the army , i know how to stay warm...The answer to keepng warm is layers , rather than wearing your normal clothes , and then putting a heavy jacket on the top , go for layers of clothing , wool is always good for keeping body heat close to your body...As for boots , your best bet is to go to your local camping shop and get some walking boots , and warm socks , again wool ones are the best to go for...If its a good camping shop they will have staff that can advise you on what is going to keep you warm...Walking boots will not make much of a fashion statement , but they will cope very well with Polish pavements , and the snow too...You will get decent gloves from the same shop , and don,t forget a hat to keep your head warm...I have a Russian army fur hat which is pretty good , they look kinda cool on a woman too.....No doubt some of the forum ladies will advise you better on how to stay warm...and look good too

Love / Met a Polish girl on the Internet, and I'm soon off to meet her... [82]

i have the feeling she will show up

I am sure she will mate , but there is no harm to have a back up plan....Saying that , i rode my Harley all the way to Ukraine to meet a lady...didn,t have a back up plan , but then i am the sort of person that can improvise any any disaster...

On route to Ukraine it rained all the way , my mobile got wet , so i was not able to confirm i was on my way....When i finally got to her flat , cold and wet , i found she was not in...because i had not rung , she thought i had stopped at a hotel on route...she went to her mums...i wound up sleeping in the street all night next to my bike....

Happily , i was able to borrow a mobile from one of her neighbours the next day , and we did meet up...Things can go wrong you never even thought of.......

If you go there with an open mind , and an open heart , you will be ok...it will either work out great , or not , you won,t know till you met her...

Just bear in mind you will be a stanger in Poland , not being able to speak the language , depending on her to make sure you don,t get into any tricky situations , so if it does not work out , or worse still she does not show up , you need to make sure you have a back up plan....

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

I have lived in Poland for five years....despite this my Polish language skills are very limited....I know enough to survive , and thats about it..I can go shoping , drive around , and do any job that does not require great language skills...For six months i worked as a truck driver here , and had no problems with that , but it was only possible because i worked with people that spoke some English....

Living in the middle of nowhere does not help of course , and not having a telivision , or enough money to go and learn Polish at some school...

Of course i am learning more Polish each day without trying , but it would be nice to have the time and money to concentrate fully on learning the language....

Saying that , i do have some great Polish friends that speak zero English , and we manage to communicate somehow , so maybe my Polish is better than i think it is...?

News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

When organising aid convoys to Poland the most common question i got from people wanting to join us was....where exactly is Poland...? I think for a lot of English people the civilised world ended at the Berlin wall...what was beyond it was all Russian badlands full of evil commies...

Life / Animal Rights Movements in Poland [56]

How do you know?

The males are much bigger , and have big horns for battling for the attentions of females....As for feeding the wild animals , yes its not good for them to come to depend on humans as a food source as they lose their skills in foraging....However , around my farm the wild boar have made up there own minds that its a good place to eat , some nice grass thats not ploughed up for crops , and of course all the apples that fall off the tree....its just rather than have them come into the garden to eat the apples , i now throw the apples over the newly repaired fence so they can get at them...

Wild boar normally eat any fruit fallen from trees , so i am not interfering with their natural feeding habits...just attempting to keep em out of the actual garden...Almost cornered one in my woodshed last winter...tricky..they can get a bit aggressive if they consider themselves in a pickle...One of the reasons they don,t want people feeding the animals , is due to the fact that often folks will give them stuff that just isn,t good for them...

Life / Animal Rights Movements in Poland [56]

This one is a she...but yes , she and all the other creatures around are welcome on my land , even the wild boar which dig bloody holes all over the place looking for food in the winter...mind you its my fault they actually come into the yard , as my fences needed repairing....Today i have been throwing all my uneeded apples over the fence , as this is very much enjoyed by the wildlife as food gets a bit scarce during the winter...

My friend who lives in Drawsko often has the forest rangers coming to her farm to collect fallen apples that are put in the forest for the animals...wild boar love a nice apple...

Funny enough , as i write this there is a female deer laying in the grass about 20 feet from my room window...She watches me as i move the curtains and take a photo of her , a bit nervous , but i think she knows that she is not in danger from me....

She is often there resting during the day , perhaps the same one that used to visit me last year , i am not tempted to make friends with her , as i don,t want her to consider humans as friends , the hunters will be in this area soon , hopefully she will survive another year....

now to shrink the pic , and see if i can put it here....?

maybe a pic of Bambi..?
