Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

Why combat them?

Because there should be some decency left in everyone of us. But who knows, maybe it's only me who is so 'old-fashioned' to believe that jokes about war crimes and mass murder are unacceptable...?

Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

So which part of the joke then becomes unacceptable?

I don't think that I have to answer that. You know the answer already. So why do you hide behind a lame excuse? I will change rychlik's stuff one more time so that you can "appreciate the technical humour", the "mechanics", as you said.

What's the difference between the destruction of Warsaw and a Polack? The first one was clever.

Funny?

Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

Trevek, I don't mind nasty jokes, but there are certain boundaries which should not be crossed. Just let me change rychlik's 'joke' for you quickly:

What's the difference between the destruction of Warsaw and Poland's best comedian?? Only the first one can make you smile.

You still like it?

What's the difference between the Dresden bombing and Germany's best comedian

I like that!

If you like that, Trevek, then you will definitely enjoy Concentration Camp jokes, too. Unbelievable - both of you!

Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

don't preach to me pal about this German

Gheez, man. In most of your rants you were using the plural form 'the Germans', and now you want us to believe that all this crap you wrote was only about Bratwurst Boy? Give me a break. Have at least the guts to admit that you are a freaking racist.

Law / The 'Secret' of Poland's Economic Success [83]

When there is no capital there is no demand

Capital moves to places where possible profits are the highest. How do you maximize profits? By keeping your costs down.

Law / The 'Secret' of Poland's Economic Success [83]

It's not just low wages. Poles are hard working and smarter on average than a Brit

The main cost factor in every business is wages. If you can get well educated and highly skilled workers for a fraction of the cost you would have to pay in another country, where would you invest? Correct: in Poland. But ... you change the economic environment for the corporations in a negative way (i.e., increase salaries and corporate taxes), and you will face the consequences. There is always someone out there with a good education who is willing to work for less - the motor of globalization.

History / The Gustloff - one of the worst maritime disasters that seemed to never have happened [66]

Some additional info:

Relations between Russia and Germany have not been good since Vladimir Putin's nationalist sabre-rattling this summer, but they are about to get a whole lot worse.

A new film about to be released in Germany will force both countries to re-examine part of their recent history that each would much prefer to forget. Yet it is right that the ghastly truth should finally be acknowledged.

Real Estate / Just by gauging the interest in this forum says all about property in PL [36]

German property has never been popular for investment. Its a totally different perspective over there.

But for a reason. The German attitude towards owning real estate is completely different to the USA for example. Buying a house is usually a once in a lifetime event in Germany, whereas people in the US until recently used to move every 4 to 5 years into a new and bigger home - building their nest-eggs.

Genealogy / If your ancestors were in the "Wehrmacht"... [217]

...were under occupation for well over 100 years

No, officially they were not because Poland didn't exist as a state. These lands were Russian, Austro-Hungarian and German territories. Accepted all around the world at that time with the exception of the Ottoman Empire, Denmark and Spain, I believe - right?. It's a technicality, I know, but you cannot change historical facts. To use the term 'occupation' is just a political tool to show continuity between the pre-partition Poland and the country that reemerged after WW1, IMHO.

Genealogy / If your ancestors were in the "Wehrmacht"... [217]

...and as most of those land were under German occupation before WW1

Like it or not - these lands were not under occupation, they were part of the German Empire... ;)

Genealogy / If your ancestors were in the "Wehrmacht"... [217]

Yeah. I didn't mean "forged" in the sense of "gefälscht", but more in the sense of an Ariernachweis using wrong data. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

See genealogienetz.de/vereine/wgff/faq/faq_nszeit.htm
for example:

Quote:
"Im übrigen sei an dieser Stelle davor gewarnt, Angaben aus den "Ariernachweisen" unkritisch zu übernehmen."

A treasure for all interested in genealogy!

Yes and no. It can give you a good indication in which direction to look, but I would never rely on the data. The Ariernachweis was one of the most often forged documents in Germany.

UK, Ireland / Britain... What the Poles did for us. [444]

Were part of the establishmnet, an Institionalised nation, the facts remain regardless.

If the cause for Britain's declaration of war on Germany was so noble, then please explain to me why they somehow "forgot" to declare war on the USSR. And yes, I'm aware of the deal between Poland and the Brits...

UK, Ireland / Britain... What the Poles did for us. [444]

Sometimes im convinced at...

Was that an attempt to be insulting? ;)

I ask again: why would Britain have to go to war with Germany other than for the reasons Barney stated in #230? Defending liberty and democracy, saving the world, yadda yadda? I don't believe that propaganda crap for one minute.

UK, Ireland / Britain... What the Poles did for us. [444]

The British did have to go to war to stay an independent country/empire they had no choice

Why didn't they have a choice? Hitler didn't want war with the Brits.

If I were you I would check if you have to pay import duties once you bring your car into Australia. This might increase your costs significantly.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

And don't forget that first of all, Salomon Morel is a Holocaust survivor

That's an excuse for what this animal did to others? You can't be serious.

Neither Morel ... were proven guilty

Only because Israel denied several Polish requests for extradition.
