USA, Canada / Polish Restaurants in Southwest Florida (Sarasota, Tampa, Venice, Englewood, Ft. Meyers) [8]

Understand that most of the people that live in that area are old people and their parents.
It is a retirement area.
Even though old people have their social security, life insirance policies from their late mate, pensions, ect.
for some reason (old school) pinch a nickle so tight it makes the buffalo fart.
They like the all you can eat buffets for $6.99.
An authentic Polish restaurant uses fresh ingredience which are expensive. ie: real butter ect.
The buffets use cheap processed foods.
Good food is not cheap and cheap food is not good.

Work / Thinking of working or investing in Poland (Think AGAIN!) Experience and attitude of British toward Poland. [80]

quote by LodzLand:

I personally DID NOT come to POLAND, I am trapped in here!

So you didn't come to Poland physically but are trapped here mentally ?
quote by rozumiemnic:

"sexpit" LOL I wish
Mate, admit it, you got with a Polish woman because British women saw right through you.
Then you thought you could go to her country and be a hit, but you failed.

That is the best explaination I have read yet.
My guess would be if the truth be known is: you came from Australia because you were transparent to Australian women and developed an inferiority complex even though you had some cash to flash.

So after hearing the stories of desperation of young Polish girls you came to Poland to be a huge hit.
You then proceeded to get a Polish girl pregnant and pi$$ed your inheritance away trying to keep your image up as a high tech IT guy.

Once reality set, as you said, "my hands are tied - I am trapped".
The quick fix for your pretentious image came to an abrupt hault when the money ran out.
You don't want to go back home broke with an image of failure because of your bad choices.
So now you are playing your last straw called the 'blame game'. It's Polands fault as you stated.
Best you lower your standards of your pseudo image and take any job you can get to support your family the best you can.
Game Over !

Work / Thinking of working or investing in Poland (Think AGAIN!) Experience and attitude of British toward Poland. [80]

so you agree that teaching English is a menial job

No, I don't agree with that.
Teaching English correctly takes a special kind of person IMO.
Harry taught me that as it takes a very knowledgable person to understand teaching skills, phonics, patience, knowing
PROPER English, ect.
What I was referring to was when LodzL admitted that his degree was out dated,

After two years its now invalidity so Poland has wrecked my career in IT as you know in technology changes happen so fast as to loose two year is to kill your career totally

(So, Poland wrecked your career the way you see it ?)
yet still refuses to contribute to the family pocketbook as his wife supports him,

No sh*t, can you blame her !
I wouldn't blame her if she snapped and beat you like a borrowed mule !
He won't "lower" himself to take a "menial job

I am not coming to clean your toilet,

because he doesn't want to

I don't want STAIN on my resume...

even though it is out dated by two years.

He is like me HANDS TIED!

Tied to what, your dead a$$ !

Oh my aching a$$......what a self pity party daddy all because "it's Polands fault."

One thing about the Brits is Polish get jobs in the UK, They don't have a complex or issue about it, ask the 1 million plus there, If you can cut it, you get the job.

Then take your own advise Pal. You have a huge complex and many issues because you didn't make it in IT, spent the family inheritence, refuse to work, so go get a job cleaning toilets instead of acting like a crop failure.

Crying about it ain't gonna fix it.
Time to man up son.

I don't want STAIN on my resume... sorry if you wish to dirty your resume.. be my guest.

Would you like some cheese with your whine ?
I have been following this thread LodzLand and have drawn this conclusion.
You feel that you are to pretty to work a meanial job.
You put your wife to work at one but you refuse to take one for many limp reasons.
If you did take one you wouldn't have to put it on your spotless resume.
Maybe the big inheritance you got gave you this self inflictive sanctimoniousness attitude.
No wonder no one will hire you.
Have you ever looked at it that way ?

Law / Any good business ideas - what Poland needs? [114]

Is there a need for storage units in Poland ?
Once they are erected and made secure there is no maintenance
to speak of unless you have heated ones.
No utilities besides electricity for security lighting and camera's.
Yearly taxes and insurance of course.
No full time employee's to deal with either.
No food spoilage or health inspectors to deal with.
Seems permits and codes to erect them would be a lot less hassle
then occupied buildings. (No kitchen or bathrooms)
Say 48 cold storage units that rents out for $100 a month would give
you $57,000 a year income without dealing with plugged toilets.
I would expect taxes would be low on them also.
Keep them dry and have lots of security camera's.
Start out with 12 and let them pay for themselves.
Then make sure to have room to expand with another12 units with
your profits.
I have my cup of coffee and sitting down to read what a stupid idea
this is because.................lol.
They have made me a modest supplemental income here in the States
with very little stress.

Work / Suggestions for starting a business in Poland ( I have 50/60,000 USD ) [59]

I do apologize to you sir.
As you can see I was asking those things as questions to you.
I am surely not an expert on how things work in Poland.
That's why I was asking.
Sorry you are so sensative as I meant no disrespect to you.

Architecs are for people with lots of money and few brains.

Let me rephrase that:
"Architecs in America are for people with lots of money and few brains."
That's because you can build your own home or put an addition on yourself without
hiring a architec simply by getting a home owners permit.
Even though I still highly doubt $60k would be enough to buy/build a 50 bed hostel that
would pass inspection.
Again, my sincere apology for upsetting you.
Thank you for your expertness.

Work / Suggestions for starting a business in Poland ( I have 50/60,000 USD ) [59]

1.

60k is enough to open a hostel for 50 beds - but it is WITHOUT a cost of buying/renting a property.

But WITHOUT owning the building or property........?????
So you still have to buy the property and 50 bed hostel with $48,000 since you get $12,000 for your services ?
2.Are you really required to hire an architec to sketch out a plan for a throne or can your sub contractor do that ?
3.

And the architect is the one that hires other needed specialists (construction, sanitary, HVAC, etc.) - so you can have one point of contact and one fixed price.

So you can't hire the specialists (sub contractors) yourself ?
4.

And getting a building permit takes up to 3 months

And this isn't something you can't apply for yourself ?
5.

You just have to know all the regulations and building codes requirements and proceed accordingly.

A copy of these are not available free at the building department with a partner that knows the laws. And aren't your sub contractors/specialists required to know these laws if they are licensed ?

6.

but you have to hire a specialist to handle this anyway

So the licensed sub contractor/specialist that you hire is required to know these laws, right ?
7.

The architect fee is 15%-20% of building costs for a small investment like this - this includes ALL specialist fees that architect is subcontracting.

20% of 60k is $12,000 in your pocket for doing what most everything old Levi and his Polish partner could do themselves.
quote by Levi BR

I have a polish partner, with a good understanding of Polish Law

So why pay someone $12,000 of your $60,000 leaving you $48,000 for the building and property when you already have
a partner that knows the Polish laws and regulations ?????
Architecs are for people with lots of money and few brains.

Work / Suggestions for starting a business in Poland ( I have 50/60,000 USD ) [59]

No one answered this original question yet.

In the country that i lived before (Chile) is not difficult to find investors to good ideas. But unfortunately a socialist government make all investors run away. How is it at Poland?

Any Polish citizen takers to that question ?

Do not waste your money just for the sake of going to Poland to open a business here. Unless you really have a plan, fully understand your business and industry and are aware of what you are getting yourself into.

This is the best advice given to this thread yet.
My advise from learned experience is that when investing in a foreign country is to have a partner from that country who you
can trust.
It makes things go a lot smoother with the locals and the government.

With 50/60k usd bro you cannot even think of hotel motel or even an hostel.

Very good point as it sounds like a champagne dream on a beer budget.
To put 50k in perspective .... will buy you a nice new car or truck these days.

Life / Does anyone know of any animal welfare places in Poland? Help finding a dog. [11]

Yes, they have microchips for pets in PL.

There are two kinds, one that when the pet is scanned by a Vet or animal control officer
shows the owners name, address and vaccination history, the other is an actual GPS locator
used with your cell phone to track your pets location that just came out recently.
Took my buddy awhile to figure out how his wife knew everytime he was at the Casino.

Life / Does anyone know of any animal welfare places in Poland? Help finding a dog. [11]

Why is there lots of stray british dogs in Poland?

Post #912 in the bin will answer that.
I feel your pain as pets become family.
It won't do any good now however for your next pet you may check into
a gps chip to be inserted under it's skin.
Technology now offers it so you can track your pets location up to 25 miles
by using your cell phone. Accurate within ten feet.
Does anyone know if this technology is offered in Poland yet ?
(Chip not to be glued in the seam of your boyfriends wallet.)

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

I was born in Hamtramck Michigan decades ago when it was still a pristine Catholic Polish and Czechoslovakian enclave.

That is putting it in a very humble manner as I have many relatives that use to live there in the 40's and 50's.
Hamtramck was the cleanest well kept part of Detroit.
The Poles took great pride in their section of the city not only with it's up keep but the meats and sausages
that they made nationally famous. Still a few excellent Polish restaurants there but nothing like the old days.

Travel / Where do you want to open international traveler's guest house in Poland? [7]

One of the best idea's I have seen yet on the P.F. to employ locals.
Start out with one and slowly build a National chain of them throughout Poland.
I will be travelling alone when I come to Poland next year for thirty days and want
to pack as much as I can in that short time.
How nice to have someone waiting at the airport to escort/guide me to
a first class International Guest House safely and affordable.
Once there be able to hire a person to take me around Poland to site see.
This would save me both time and money plus feel safe with a guide who
is employeed by the Guest House.
In doing so the local guides know the best restaurants, the most economical
way to travel, short cuts, explain the laws, train schedules and the know how, night
clubs or just a local watering hole to spend your money at and meet local people.
The guides would be bi lingual in different languages for different countries.
The key here is to have VERY HONEST guides that show 100% respect no
matter how embarrassing their cliets may be.
Word of mouth is your best advertising and satisfied customers don't mind
tipping someone that goes out of their way to make a vacation a pleasant one.
Prerequisites for a guide would be at least 25 years old, very fit, bi-lingual, excellent
knowledge of the local area, be honest and have a perpetual smile.
And after touring say Krakow take their client to the next Guest House say in
Gdansk to introduce them to their next guide.
This would be the ticket for older people and remember, the older people usually
have nothing else to spend their social security or pension check on. $$$$$
A good website would have you swamped with customers.
Sign me up.

Life / Pepper Spray in Poland? [36]

I can't reply without hijacking the thread even though I do not believe a
word of your posts in it.

No wonder you are so parinoid and feel you need a weapon to protect yourself.

Life / Pepper Spray in Poland? [36]

Is that some kind of threat?

No, it was a trick question.

And your point son?

That the enviroment of the hood in Jersey may be the reason that you have this phobia of
being attacked.
You "claim" to be going to Poland (which I find highly doubtful) and afraid of being attacked
because of your ethnic back ground. Ya trackin' with me now bro ?
That was my point.

And just to inform you jamaica aint better then new jersey.

Can't remember claiming it is however have you ever been to Jamaica to compare the two ?
Let me ask you then, "why do millions of tourists go to Jamaica every year and people avoid
high street crime Jersey like the plague ?"

cursing maybe cuz it had american plates

What country did this happen in ?

I donot to begin with as they would only give me liability

And the reason for that must be because it is a very old clunker with a load of dents already ?
Something just doesn't add up to why you have such consternation to think you need to carry
a weapon unless you come from a surrounding that requires you to for mere survival.

Please dont preach me

Hey Pigsy, back off.
You are being a ding-a-ling.
Pam was just being as candid as she could to be frank with you.
Why the pi$$ing contest ?

Why are you trying to convince me to let my guard down?

Where did you come up with that ? Have you been drinking ?
Carry the weapon of your choice but I am telling you that someone that knows what they
are doing can jam a #2 pencil thru your jugular before you could blink.
I think your ethnic back ground and surroundings may have something to do with your paranoia.
Poland is far from the enviroment that New Jersey has to offer.
The only thing to fear is fear itself.

Life / Pepper Spray in Poland? [36]

I doubt cuz I will do something before I die

You have never been in a life or death situation have you ?
It doesn't work that way.
If someone premeditates wanting you dead, most likely you will be dead without you having much to do about it.

Thats why they check criminal records before issuing a gun license or a shotgun permit,

Criminals or unstable people do not need a criminal record check or a license to get a gun.
I have never heard of such a thing as a shotgun permit.
Here in the U.S. you can legally buy a shotgun out of a newspaper ad for cash.
What country do you live in ? England ?

lol u mean when the crime is in process

The first thing I would do is call 911 or in ENGLAND 119 I think.
Yea England, I did'nt stutter.

wont you feel threatened?

I have been in worse situations and survived without killing anyone.

the guy breaks the window and hits you with something?

Is this what happened to you ? Some guy for no reason attacked you ?

or you will just sit in there and wait for your OH LORD*?

Yeah, that is what I pay insurance premiums for.

I cenrtainly will not attack until I am absolutely under threat for my life.

By then you most likely will be dead if he wants you dead.

BTW guns dont kill,people kill,

Yea, stupid people that should not have access to a gun.

next time if anything like this ill make sure i get him.

Oh Lord ! No wonder guns are out lawed over there.
No, you don't get to use deadly force if someone dents your car.
Deadly force is if someone is raping your wife, kidnapping your child or
threatening your life. ONLY !

Keep in mind, you need to learn how to use it first

Very good point.
When using mace for example, the correct way is to spray it on the perps chest so the fumes
from it continue to come up to be breathed and irritate the eyes.

Food / Polish honey liquor called something like "vitatass"? [37]

Maybe Sobieski can help my memory out here if anyone.
Going back about forty years ago we bought it in a dark brown crock jug with a
little handle on it that held about a pint.
Most likely packaged like that for a novelty gift.
I forget what they called it now but a very sweet honey wine.
I would buy my Matka a jug every Christmas.

Life / Pepper Spray in Poland? [36]

Pepper spray is over rated yet better then nothing especially for women.

I picked up a couple of cans in a military style shop in Wroclaw.

If I felt so insecure I would just pick up a can of wasp & hornet spray that shoots 30 feet.
Instantly blind your perp. with swelling his/her throat shut, ONLY in a life threatening situation however.
Totally legal to carry I would guess or keep handy at your front door.

I thought everyone knew that.

Then what do the pagans put on the top of their Christmas trees ?

We don't. We have a midwinter festival

Is that what the pagan festival is called, the mid winter festival ?
As for us believers, Jesus is the reason for the season.

And yes we do go to the farm in usa and pay 5 bucks but they cut and wrap it for us and put on the truck for us

In what State do you live in that trees are $5 ? Where I live to do what you said would run about $25 or more.
I like Roger5 idea much better.
I take that $25 and get a bottle of Christmas cheer with it instead. (Johnny Walker Red)
Couple of toddy's and casually herd her under the mistletoe. :-)
I have never understood though why non believers celebrate Christ's birthday.
Jesus is the reason for the season.

Love / Observations and experiences so far about Polish women [93]

quote by Johnny Reb

They call them, "self serving opportunists."

quote by jon357

Perhaps you call them that. Most don't.

Really, when was the last time you were with a woman jon ?

If you want your wife to complain a lot, be pessimistic, and look super hot in her 20's and 30's but then look like a Maytag fridge by the time she's 50 and cut her hair really short - then marry a PL girl..

The reason they look like a Maytag by 50 is from extreme depression that causes them to over eat. By 50 their husbands have
become bald, have no sex drive (and when they do the deed is short lived only satisfying himself), have developed a puss gut and become very gassey. I mean can you really blame the woman in such a scenario ?

It only proves that God has a sense of humor.

. There's a difference between liking nice things and wanting your man to succeed and using him because he gives you a Mercedes to drive around in...

Which reminds me what my Daddy told me when I was a boy. He said, "son, a woman can make you or break you."

Love / Observations and experiences so far about Polish women [93]

The women in Poland typically have that '50's housewife mentality' especially ones that are in their 30's, 40's and beyond...

Women with '50's housewife mentality' are the women that take care of their man and his children.
They call that "a family".

It's more the PL women who are younger and in search of better opportunities that are typically more independent.

Young women that are independent don't need a man nor have time to pamper one.
They call them, "self serving opportunists." (Not that there is anything wrong with that)
