Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

Fundamentalist Shiites are not the same as moderate Sunnis.

Yes, all taken together Sunnis are far more violent and responsible for far more misery, as they are rapidly devolving backwards into primitive savagery as they converge around Saudi, ie outright evil, norms.

The biggest problem isn't Islam (or "radical" or "extreme" Islam, it's Saudi backed Sunni fundamentalism which is very nasty stuff).

And people who try to pretend that there are no differences between different schools of Islam (or Islam and modern Christianity) are useful idiots, helping Islamic supremacists to slaughter little girls.

All religions are not the same and at any given time, one is likely to be far more violent and destructive than others. At this moment in time, Sunni fundamentalists are the world champions at religious savagery. Not admitting that is being complicit, like all the good Germans who minded their own business in the 1930s

Not every church and not every mosque are "reaching out in friendship" as you so poetically put it

Indeed, most outreach efforts by muslims are by Ahmadis who are not accepted as "real" muslims by many Sunnis (and under constant repression in Pakistan).

The effed up nature of just about every country with a large muslim majority just gets worse the more you look at it. Most supporters of muslim immigration carefully don't look....

Killing another won't bring the cherished dead back to life.

So your'e in favor of letting killers just go on killing as in Egypt today where over 10 Christians were slaughtered... noted.

when the good begin to mimic their enemies in the pursuit of good

So self frickin' defense is bad!? Naming the guilty is bad?! Then I am as evil a mofo as you have ever seen!

what according to you is an appropriate response to filth that consistently targets young females (I remind you that Manchester happened in the shadow of Rotherham).

The enemy could not be clearer about what they want - to destroy the future of the west.

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

PiS attempted to politicise it, ending in the usual disaster.

One of the things that gets me is the utter lack of personal dignity of PiS officials, they can NEVER admit when they're wrong or accept simple responsibility, it's all about blaming others for ever and ever and ever.... Pathetic they are....

Not all Muslims support ISIS any more than not all Germans supported Hitler

So? What's the point? How does that help prevent another terrorist attack? Or are you one of those who feel that burying groups of little girls is a small price to pay for the glorious benefits of multiculturalism?

Wow, using the deaths of 22 innocent men, women and children in an attack targeted at children to score petty points against one's internet opponents

Against one's political opponents, you know the ones RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POLICIES THAT MADE THE ATTACK POSSIBLE!

A sizable share of the showbiz community is against the current conservative govt

Performers are not generally known for their conservative tendencies.

the King of Polish Cabaret, Jan Pietrzak

So... Polish cabaret is supposed to angry and deliberately unfunny? Who knew?

Law / US citizen looking to live in Poland for 6+ months like a long-term tourist [51]

"the diplomatic note of April 4th 1991 overrides Schengen rules"

A. You're treat Roosh seriously (how is he doing lately? the last I knew he was kind of miserable and alone...)

B. It does not override Schengen rules (or Schengen rules don't exist).

Do what you want to do (you will anyway). Just don't complain if it all goes south. If you know Polish well enough to argue about rules (without losing your temper) then you might get away with it. Otherwise I'm really skeptical...

How do you explain the huge volume of copy generated on PF by a single, local incident.

The Opole music festival is not a local incident, it's also symptomatic of the cack-handed rule by the neo-PRL Kurski and his attempt to destroy public tv in Poland.

Polish embassy in Washington DC

The Polisy embassy does not actually supervize border guards in Poland (who do not have to answer to it). And I've known a (non US) person or two who's been burned by poorly informed Polisy embassy staff.

In other words, welcome to Poland: Different agencies might say different things but what matters is what the person you're dealing with face to face says.

It's not that hard to get karta pobytu so why chance it?

currently one of KOD leader is being prosecuted for human trafficking crime.

First, if he's found guilty in a fair trial then he's human filth and I want him locked up and put away for a long time.

Second, he had no official position with KOD... or Opole

Then why did Kayah hurl such threats?

Here's a thought. Kayah did not prosper in the PRL and is extra-sensitive to the neo-PRL practices of Kurski in TVP.

Rather than accept things the way they were done in the PRL (being grateful when the PTM make a gracious exception) she made a stand on principle against rotten neo-PRL practices like blacklists.

Good for her!

The latest PC euphemism for comic book

I think you were born at the age of 47.... the graphic novel goes back at least to the 1980s and is different from comic book (though graphic novels can be published in comic book format and some comic books can contain graphic novels....

Language / "Cup of coffee" translated in Poland as Kubek kawy. Why not a mug? [70]

Indeed, though I'd say it's a joy rather than a problem, unless you're a learner

Unless you're a learner who simply wants a useful and stable lingua franca and not a plethora of regionalisms masquerading as a universal system....

Do you mean names of glasses in English?

The problem of a pluricentric language* is that there is no unified terminology for lots of vocabulary, each country (sometimes parts of countries) will have their own and while the different vocabulary sets interact they never merge (nor should they).

It's hard to impress this upon Polish learners who _really_ want a single corresponding term in English for each term in Polish. It's one of the hurdles that distinguishes the better language learners - the ability to accept different classification systems from their own language (and different systems within the target language).

I don't really know what had happned

Artists rebelled against a TVP blacklist imposed by PiS and started withdrawing en masse, and the mayor noted that the TVP could not actually fulfill its end of the contract and proposed that the city take over the organization of the festival.

Really, if you kept up with the new non-state controlled news, you'd know that.

a really delicious cup of coffee

I'm kind of a coffee slob, there's no telling what I'll like. I had an expensive machine but it just produced nasty bitter sludge, now I have an italian moka pot and love it (though I drink it spanish style in a larger cup 50/50 coffee and milk).
