Yes, We still do. Good manners are still important.

it is not good manners to behave as though a woman does not have her own name. sorry.

you seriously in the US use the husbands name to address the wife? like Mrs. John Smith? even when she is widowed?

News / Weronika Szmajdzianska crowned Miss Global Teen 2012 [8]

Speaking of these pageants, Miss this and Miss that, what are your thoughts on them

it is sad when girls think that their only value is in their looks and these competitions are mainly a way to get their parents to part with their cash.

My friends daughter reached Miss teen queen final UK when she herself realised the whole thing was a rip off for her mum (various demands for cash) and

she jacked it all in and now is concentrating on college instead.

UK, Ireland / Domestic arguments caused by differences between Polish and English culture [109]

But I get the feeling that environment has a lot to do with cultural differences.

that is so true, not only climate but also terrain I think. For example if you are hemmed in by mountains you are more likely to marry your cousins and be xenophobic (eg Wales)

Or if there is 40 degrees heat you are not going to rush about which might lead to accusations of laziness (eg Greece)
I hesitate to make such sweeping generalisations about anywhere else, perhaps I could leave that to another happy poster?

ooh no goofy -15 would be unthinkable! -5 is bloody cold here.
what we are having here is a domestic argument caused by differences in Polish and 'the islands' weather......(I love saying 'the islands' covers a multitude of places unlike 'England')

can we get back to something cultural please like salt shakers?

not sure if that counts spiritus, I mean it would hardly lead to cultural misunderstandings would it?
yesterday my Polish man told me that if a woman in Poland was as bossy as me she would get a slap....thinking about the Polish women I know, I am not sure.

Needless to say I dumped him, he was so helpless, wanting me as the woman to organise everything, pay for everything, control his drinking, and yet not be bossy?

ffs.
I am going for a nice Scottish man next time. Or possibley Irish.

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in the UK more prone to Thievery? [37]

well it depends on the area - in Sports World at Piccadilly Circus the 'shoplifting is a crime' signs are in Spanish, Italian and French.

Polonia / Moving to Spain - where is the Polish community there? [9]

There is 25 per cent unemployment and the Spanish people are essentially ' take it or leave it'
The only friendly people are from Morocco or Ecuador.
They work in the fields for 20 euro a day.
Rent would be about 600 euro a month but you might get something cheaper from some Brit who is running home
and desperate to rent out their place.

The schools do not encourage creativity or discussion but are good enough.
