News / Do Poles take Kaczynski seriously!? [199]

you want a joke?

three sharks meet in the middle of the ocean - one says - you know, guys I must have eaten a Franch bloke some time ago - I was belching perfume for over a month

the second shark says - oh, that's interesting, but look, what happened to me recently - the guy I have gobbled must have been some Russian general - I was barfing with medals for 2 weeks -

the third shark says - oh, that's not bad actually - I have swallowed a Polish guy a couple of weeks ago, he must have been a PO voter - his head was this emtpy that I couldn't dive ever since

Travel / DRIVING TO POLAND THIS THURSDAY ANY TIPS? [35]

Im driving from England to Poland.

it's gonna rain in northern Germany on Thursday - so you should expect less then perfect conditions on their otherwise brilliant motorways - there are anough Raststaette (rest places) for travellers to stop, have a meal, use a toilet (bring some euro with you) and refuel (it's around 1.5 euro per litre in Germany in case you need to refuel - it's cheaper in Poland around 1.2 E/ltr)

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

They want a return to the past, but with their men in power and with other people doing the hard work.

yes - Kaczyński is just another Gierek - oh sorry - actually Tusk is just another Gierek (indebting the nation on a massive scale, serious success propaganda)

well, I very much long for Jaruzelski back in power :) we should definitely nationalize Kulczyk, Krauze, Solorz and Michnik - why don't they actually nationalize themselves - they are all actually very much friends with Jaruzelski and Kiszczak (especially Michnik)

Life / Vandalism on cars in Poland [64]

I think that vandalism is perpetrated by foreigners, especially British tourists on stag parties.

there are no British stag parties in Warsaw to speak of - and no - they don't go around the residential areas at night jumping on the cars

I was in the Tricity a couple of years ago (2007) for over a month in the early summer - there weren't any foreign tourists visible in Gdańsk save for the historic centre and the hotels (and I haven't seen any stag party - maybe they crawl out for the night)

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

let me let u guys some real valid info-- if u actually want your nation to prosper in the tourist sector i guess it would be high time to start embracing other culture...i mean by embracing it

embracing which culture - the culture of Jamaican gangsters? - the culture of the British ASBO's aka chavs? - what do you actually mean? should we target some specific culture to advertise to? Arabs? they only care about Rolls-Royces and London banks and their Mekka or otherwise are dirt poor

and what can you actually do to stop some poeple from being prejudiced towards blacks, Asians - how can possibly Polish government change this or why should it actually begin to target it when it's not a major problem (to your knowledge sometimes trying to be proactive against some problem actually gives it fuel - ever heard that lowering age at which children are taught about sex results in lowering of the age when they actually engage in sex)

Most people like bringing along blacks for vacation because they normally know how to have fun better than other races (at least so they say) so if they learn that Poland is not a place that is friendly how the hell u expect them to spend time their

I haven't seen any black people on vacation at the Italian seaside where I was, I haven't seen any black people in that vicinity in the Alps where I was - what does attract black people? - must be warm climate and partying - I don't think Poland needs any more party oriented tourists you know - neither it is ever gonna be competition for Mallorca, Cyprus or Turkey in that field (not the right climate pal simply) -

btw jarnowa is not Polish at all - he comes from Belgium as far as I know

Life / Vandalism on cars in Poland [64]

Warsaw and Gdańsk are old historical cities, inhabited by cultural people who take care of individual and public property.

sometimes you are one deluded guy pawian who lives in the world of his dreams or imaginations

it just take a couple of stupid directionless teenagers who are free to roam at night - there have been cars burned in some vicinity in Warsaw quite recently by some such youth

Law / How to register a new business in Poland [129]

yes - REGON is for statistical institutions as far as I know (GUS) and it's issued so that there is central identity database to all people and companies who run some economic activities an are supposed to pay tax

Travel / Recommended National Parks in Poland [9]

it can be pretty wet and cool next week - starting from Friday - so I think you are gonna miss blissfull photo opportunities (white rocks, yellow leaves, white birch trees, blue skies and sunshine) - actually there won't be too much clear skies before Friday anyway (but it's not gonna rain until Friday)

Travel / Visiting Poland for 3 days. Need some info on getting around [12]

you can pay on the train in cash or with a credit card

I wouldn't count on being able to pay with a credit card on the train - it is available on some trains but not all as far as I know

it can be, although it depends on how you want to communicate
grade your language
Ok I'll try to use simple English exclusively.

you can always switch back to normal English once you encounter someone able and willing to communicate that way :)

The taxi situation sounds kind of nasty. Is there some other way to get from the airport to the train station?

there sure are busses that connect the airport with the city centre - use the 175 line - it goes straight to Dworzec Centralny (the central station) - use some tablets or cardboard with 'Dworzec Centralny' written on them to show to the bus driver to buy a ticket - the ticket should be less than 10 PLN (I am not 100 per cent sure though) so if you give him a 10 PLN note it should be fine (you can use another tablet to tell him to keep the change ('RESZTY NIE TRZEBA') - (don't expect bus drivers to know English simply)

EDIT: you should actually listen to hythorn advice: he seems to know the realities - I just used the internet and my imagination

Study / Ever meet a non-Polish teacher at a Polish university? [15]

another thing is: universities in English speaking countries can very well be cosmopolitan an many definitely are - but the reason is very simple - English is THE INTERNATIONAL language - you can't have a truely cosmopolitan academic environment in Poland because of one simple reason - the need to teach people - in this case the Polish people - it still needs to be done overwhelmingly in Polish (there is neither demand nor capacity/ability to teach any significant percentage of Polish students mostly in English) - maybe in some 20 years with rising levels of English among Polish youth this changes

Study / Ever meet a non-Polish teacher at a Polish university? [15]

It seems a shame, as the universities would surely benefit from being more cosmopolitan.

the one and foremost reason there are so few (if any) foreign teachers at Polish universities is the simple question of the rate of pay university level teachers receive in Poland - one can say it's downright prohibitive for Westerners - most Polish educational institutions would rather hire a Pole (who is paid in the Polish brackets of pay) then to pay loads of cash to an imported foreign teacher - (of course everyone would like to have say Noam Chomsky among his scholars - just not anybody can attract such people and the pay is one of the important factors)

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

think you father was in UPA delphi and used to murder Poles - would you like to be called 'banderowiec' or held responsible for UPA crimes even if all you did in your life was actually something totally opposite to what UPA did? - are the sons responsible for the sins of their fathers - by what logic? - if so then half of the Germans should be convicted, wouldn't you agree?

if you think I count on that that PiS forms or takes part in the next government then you are wrong - I just simply won't be surprised by such a scenario - there are tonnes of possible scenarios with the rise of Ruch Palikota and PJN - the first article by Jarosław Flis I linked for you lists just a couple of scenarios

a bit more of explanatory words - jaroslawflis.salon24.pl/346891,prawo-i-matematyka

recognizing same sex marriages by the law is wrong in my oppinion and there are other ways of achieving the reasonable goals (not all goals that are desired to be achieved by recognition of same sex marriages are reasonable in the first place) some people want to achieve with such recognition

yes? divulge please or just explain

ok I was a bit wrong in stating 6 per cent nationwide vote is likely to translate into 4-5 seats (it is not likely but it's still paradoxically possible)

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

You are seriously deluded! Do you honestly believe that the people intending to vote for Palikot will vote for PIS!!!!????

no - it's the way Polish election system works - the missing seats are shared by big powers - and you don't need to fall below 5 per cent threshold to loose seats in parliament - 6 per cent of the votes nationwide can well translate to 4-5 seats in the parliament which means about one per cent - the ramaining per cents go to 'big fish' - this is called d'Hondt voting system - I know it's completely different where you live (SPV isn't in Australia) - should we have SPV PiS could only dream of taking power this time - next election is a very open thing as dissatisfaction with ruling parties will soar

someone who abandons pursuing Polish interests internationally because 'Poland is an ugly maid' is a traitor to a significant extent

Well I find Bartoszewski's observation very apt, how else would you describe the PIS supporting Kioble?

it was well before Kaczyński ever thought of embracing 'kibole' - it is a very recent thing - while Baroszewski said what he said during the 2007 parliamentary campaing - many PO supporters are very fond of 'Pisowskie bydło' untill today as you can see from internet comments

As for Palikot, if you don't want him to form the next government with PO-as the polls indicate will be likely, then may I suggest you lend your support to PO so they don't have to rely on Palikot?

you must be joking, seriously :) - there is still a strong probability Palikot will never make it to the parliament this time and in this case PiS is gonna take half of his vote - furthermore Palikot is really weakening PO (and SLD even more) - it may actually lead to a situation that there will be equally very little presence of Palikot and SLD in the next Sejm with PO quite considerably weakened - I just can sit and jubilate

another couple of years of PO now with Ruch Palikota - well it just makes PO missing in action in the next shuffle (in 3 years max?) - can Palikot take the PO electorate then completely - no way

and by whose side he fought in the Warsaw Rising, he was jeered and abused by PIS supporters and called a traitor, how does that make you feel as a PIS supporter proud?

like someone who once fought for Poland couldn't become a traitor - for me he has become one and just added insult to the injury with his speak against PiS

And incidentally what you think happened that provoked the reaction of the person in question? Was it Kaczynski's language of love and unity by any chance?

no, it was Radek Sikorski's language of love (' Jeszcze jedna bitwa, jeszcze dorżniemy watahy, wygramy tę batalię! '), Władysław Bartoszewski's language of love ('Pisowskie bydło'), and Janusz Palikot's language of love (' kciuk.pl/Palikot-Kaczynskiego-zastrzelimy-i-wypatroszymy- a17496') - just a small sample

Travel / Early churches (built 700-1000 years ago) in Poland? [25]

and also the Rotunda of SS. Felix and Adauctus on Wawel Hill

these must be patrons of the infamous 'Siostry SS Felicjanki' female order - I was so amused I found their congregation in Nysa - try imagining a band of sisters in black (or white&grey camoulfage) habits, black boots, stahlhelms and schmeissers in their hands on a SdKfz 250
