Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

I shall confess. The list:
tootpaste, several chocolate bars from a store, found wallet with cash and id but returned ID only - cash stolen, cash from cash register at work, food and other stuff from work, lost book from library didn't pay fine, rode bus with no ticket (still do from time to time), stole some cash from my mama's purse long time ago. Over all I've been clean for last years with exception of stealing from bus company in my town. Oh, and once I had asked an office clerk to triple the number of working hours on my card, she did it and I got paid three times as much as I shoold (LECH beer company btw)

That is a lot!!! :) OMG

Life / Poland's Environment, recycling [79]

I do save myself papper and plastic botles and have to carry them to special containers some 50 yards which is fine. My beer botles I'd leave outside garbage can and they are later picked up by some junkies who'd sell them later. I don't return bottles myself because they never welcome you well with the bottles. They'd say it's for "exchange only" ...Customer service sucks in Poland big way. I notice Poles don't save water. They'd wash dishes in running water, no soaking. It is happening especially in housholds where there is no individual meters. Still many simply think saving water or energy is a sympthom of poverty. They can afford it.

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

My favourites:
Poszukiwany, poszukiwana
Popiol i diament
Potop
Pan Wolodyjowski
Seksmisja
Kingsajz
Out of recent ones I liked "Jasminum" (with Gajos ) and "Pogoda na jutro" (very funny! with Stuhr)

I would really like to find seksmisja in english (I don't think there is a spanish version) no matter how many times I see it, I always laugh so much!

I happen to have english subtitles file for it, if that is what you need, let me know.

Language / Polish or any Slavic language key to any other Slavic languages? [126]

A true story.
Two Poles were riding a taxi cab in Prague and one was loudly complaining about how expensive Prague supposedly was, how horrible was the local bear and so on. At one point one Pole said: "and their language! it sounds just childlish!"

Hearing this was enough for the local cab driver who stoped the car suddenly and turned toward two Polaks saying: "A wasz je lepsi?" (And yours [language] is better?)

"A WASZ JE LEPSI" sounds to Poles really funny as if proving that czech language IS in fact childlish (in sense of a child trying to speak properly but making funny pronanciation mistakes)

And of course there is well known "Szukac, szukalem, szukalam, szukacie" which is polish for "looking for" and czech for that popular f. word.

Genealogy / Is tallness common among Polish people? [201]

haha Perhaps they are cheap, so true. Unfortunately I'm hearing they are getting more chauvinists like English these days which is sad.

Genealogy / Is tallness common among Polish people? [201]

It's totally misplaced question. The proper one, suitable one should be: WHY ARE POLES Soooo SHORT???
To answer your question though: Poles are on avarege shorter then the Duch or Scandinavians or Germans (who IMO have large mumber of trully tall folks).

News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

What I didn't like in US was HOUSING. I always had a choice to live in a rat hole and still pay 1/3 of my income for it or spend half of my monthly money for more decent conditions (not to mention humiliating and never working roommate situations) ....

To find him you'd need his GG number or his nickname or his real name. You could also have all GG members listed acording to their location I think. OR ...you may spam everybody throughout GG network with your message...just send over 2.5 million messages.

Language / Polish/Ukrainian words similarities [209]

Ukrainian and Russian are closer.
Polish is closer to Russian but some people may argue here I think. In Ukrainian quite many words are identical with polish ones....
To me Russian is more understandable then Ukrainian but that again maybe due to me having rather more exposure to Russian language.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

I'm reading in Gazeta Wyborcza that 721 polish dogs and 146 cats imigrated to UK this year so far - legally, with passports and chips! - just sharing!

The growth is rapid - even in 2004. into Ireland did not come any Polish dog or cat, and to the United Kingdom only six cats and four dogs.

The owners bring their four-legged animals, because both they and their pets are missing each other. Kinga Ratkiewicz has been with her parents in Aberdeen from the two years. Her dachshund Capri was in Poland with her grandmother. - At first she did not want to eat or go outside. We would arrive home, she was offended by us - she says. In the end, two months ago, Capri also moved to Scotland.

Poles decide to take pets, even though the procedure is time-consuming and costs a thousand to several thousand zloty - depending on the size of the pet and the type of transport. Entering the islands the animal must have implanted a chip and a special passport. It must be vaccinated against rabies and have confirmation from the National Veterinary Institute, that the vaccine worked. Just before leaving it gets deworming preparations and against ticks.

Law / Form of Polish Driving Licence [14]

Any driver can check his/her record at your local police station with some prove of identity. I'm not sure you can check someone else record.

There is a point system and the ultimate maximum is 24 points (20pts for younger drivers). For having no seatbelts on there is just 3 points penalty that goes onto your record. Police cars have access to database as well, if not they do make a call to check you out.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

Going to UK with kids doesn't necessery mean they are to stay there forever. Thay are maybe - hadrd to believe? - good parents who go abroad to save some hard cash and plan to go back home and build themselves a palace (typical) lol Can you imagin parents leaving kids in Poland just to satisfy their greed? That would be socially unaceptable.
