Life / Everything this guy says I feel about Poland [69]

Have any of the critics here, including Pawian, tried walking from Kolobrzek to Hel?
I have, and anybody who has would know there are beaches where you might not meet people for 15 kilometres, because they are only open at certain times because of NATO exercises.

So they are secluded
Yet Pawian pretends that humans should ignore each other in a totally secluded environment?
Who is the weirdo here?

It's a cultural thing.

Maybe Pawian doesn't do hikes. I find it ignorant and highly intimidating when people don't greet me back on an isolated beach.
I don't give a fukk what Pawian and other people say who can't accept change. You wanted the EU and it's money. Get a life.

Happy to say that after 30 years here. I might be an old drunk but I can't abide rudeness.

We should get this straight.
Pawan says that two human beings, passing each other on a deserted beach after 2 hours of solitude, should not necessarily say a cursory hello?
He's having a fukking laugh.

@pawian

There is such a tradition in the Polish mountains, b

A tradition?
You are a twerp, sorry to say.
The next guy that ignores me on a secluded beach, if I were 30 years younger, I would happily chin
You and your mores are not wanted in a normal sociable world. I know what is normal. You clearly don't

@pawian
I feel sorry for people like you. For you are barking mad
I spelt out the situation. The forum can read it, but you insist that such behaviour is normal?
Are you mad?
Again - an isolated beach - I know this is hard to understand, as Poles live to group together but my post was clear to anyone

You are unable to take criticism Pawian and are culture bound IMO.
It is absolutely NOT normal in present society for strangers to totally blank each other on a lonely beach.
I am astonished that you would condone such antisocial behaviour

If anybody cares:
There's a beach in Poland.
You can walk for 2 ( TWO) hours on a weekday without meeting anyone.
Then , in the distance a figure appears. An ordinary guy, like yourself.
You pass.
You say hello.
He doesn't answer.
Time after fukkin time, so my data is good.
Some Poles are fuckking weird, and it is clear to a foreigner like me, after THIRTY fukking years, obviously need help.
I don't 😁

Travel / Is it safe to drive in Poland? [43]

not a believer in road cameras which have been polluting Polish roads for years now.

You wouldn't be saying that after your child was a victim of the general idiocy that represents driving here.

What struck me in the 1990s was just how stressful driving was

Just driving to the supermarket is stressful in Poland. There is a always a dork just around the corner. More road cameras are needed, to concentrate the mind against idiocy.

Travel / Is it safe to drive in Poland? [43]

I've never driven a stick-shift car either (only automatic). If I move to Poland, would it be difficult for me to adjust to driving?

Blimey SafrDriver - that's a lot of questions there!:)
Yes, automatics are not ideal in Poland by any means.Because drivers are prone to doing unpredictable (aka stupid) things, you sometimes need to step on the gas to get yourself out of the way - a manual gearbox/shift stick helps with this instant response obviously.

Are Polish drivers aggressive and impatient in general?

Both. Always a mystery to me. 2 minutes later, in the petrol station, thay are all smiles and charm - The Disney character who drives must have been based on them.

Would you be horned at for being indecisive? This is what really fukks me off. Yes you certainly will - and when they are the culprits, they are inconsiderate, and will not react (stubborn as mules)

If you are worried about head on smashes - well - the motorways have barriers - but I read somewhere (hard to believe, and probably untrue) that more people get killed on Polish motorways than by collisions elsewhere. As to the fast roads with no barriers - you drink and play with guns don't you:) I mean - everything has its' risks, and you can't stay at home.

Just drive defensively, as you were trained to do, and if you are staying here for any length of time, then you will get the hang of it. If you drive within the speed limits (but much slower!) then you will have adequate reaction time and also will not meet the traffic cops.

Nothing to be afraid of. Enoy your driving!

One more thing - Poles love to cut you up - to overtake and grab the space between you and the car in front. Do not react to this. Let the idiots go ahead, and consider yourself superior to them, and stay safe.

News / Russia says: WE'LL NUKE POLAND [150]

minimum what Poland can do for its safety is to actually move on the side of Serbs

Nobody is going to help your pariah of a country Crow. You can have the Russians, but they are friends in name only. you are on your own, along with your "Invest in Serbia" nonsense - because nobody gives a stuff about you. When you properly apologise for starting the last Balkan War and then trying the same **** again in Kosovo, then the International Community might think about helping you.

Until then - enjoy your isolation in your backwater of Europe my little nationalist friend.

Renting a car sounds more fun then taking a train but just how safe would it be to drive yourself ?

Perfectly safe johnny if you drive for the unexpected. As in, assume that tractor will pull out of the field into your path, assume that a driver will be overtaking another car on that blind hilltop. And don't speed recklessy on country roads so you have adequate braking distance. Also when the road is wet after prolonged hot weather, it's a greasy spoon. Amazing how many victims that one throws up.

Yes, deffo a rental.

You cut down tress so new ones can grow, you dumb rubbish to make compost and how are they polluting the country rivers ?

Well yes, the question of tree felling went from one extreme to another. At one time, the landowner could face a ridiculously large fine for cutting down on a mature tree, but now it seems to be open season. The question of rubbish tipping is a clearer problem. Of course in this day and age when rubbish collection costs more and more, the rural landowner is going to tip his household waste out of his back door, and in the same way, his toilet would historically drain into the river at the end of the garden.

The solution there is free local tips in every main town, or recycle skips off the town square, because tipping in forest clearings is widespread. I would like to see local vigilantes out with their farm weapons facing up to the people who try this on, because the police will never act.

The rivers were heavily polluted from agricultural slurry and food processing plants just ten years ago when I toured the east extensively by bike. I would have thought the situation must be much better now, but I really wouldn't bet on it. And yes, the people need help of whatever type that maybe - regainin g the pride in their locality and self policing, almost being more aggressive in protecting their own lands.

I've never been chased off somebody's land here when out in the bog - when I probably ought to have been (obviously I didn't realise the area in question was in private ownership....)

Some make their living from land, tourism etc.

A lot of chaps are truckers....

I hope not. The area where they cut down ancient woodland, tip rubbish at the back of their fields and pollute their own local country rivers? They need law and order - which is what they thought they were voting for.

History / "Hurricane" - New film about the famous Polish RAF squadron 303. [26]

They were cynically used by Brits and not only Brits Before the war during and after.

At least Britain gave its' Poles a home. My "uncle" was such an example, and he was very grateful. Poland on the other hand, offered nothing with this latest wave of refugees and forced emigration into Europe. I would be more selective in my criticism.

News / Schools in Poland to strike tomorrow [235]

how many English native speakers

Maybe a couple of thousand at least.....? It's often a case of it's not what you know, but who you know. Those people stay within their circle, and don't have to, or don't wish to advertise.

I think some of them just go abroad for a year or longer for some experience, excitement, travel.....

Yes that's it. One of the main sources of teaching abroad. Missing the point that you don't usually get on the TEFL programme without a university degree or some acquired talent for holding the group together. Joker was indulging in the usual "Anybody can teach English.." Successfully, not quite!

such low pay, unless they are under qualified or don't have much ambition to succeed.

There are many reasons that TEFL teachers go overseas - I'm sure you could work it out if you wanted to.
Those who are academically minded need to go overseas for the experience and research. Then others are doing so as a uni gap year etc. Then there are others like myself who were married, and wanted a lifestyle change from the hard drinking culture in geological servicing.

Then there are others who you are patronisingly referring to, who find themselves a vocation. If they can't hack it, they don't stay around for long.

One of my pals, an American, is an absolute wizard in the classroom, with his energy, command, and methodology. Parents attempt to insist that he takes their children into his classes.

He is a fantastic teacher you see. They do exist, though you seem to deride the profession
This guy is 70 and his eyes shine when he tells me what happened in his classes that morning.
Weird ( as I teach tech, not kids) but horses for courses...
What's your million dollar per annum profession Joker?

Pieskawa Skala. (sorry, no Polish fonts..)

propaganda.

Where do you live again Ironside? How much have you contributed? Now be off with you!

I spent there about two years from all combined summers and weekends as an infant and a young boy.

(Rabka)...I spent a week or two there every summer when my daughter was in her pram until she was four - my liver is still recovering from the long evenings sat on the verandah:) I too had fun in the river after a few sherberts:)

Summers could be bloody cold there too I remember!
