Law / Temporary residence and work permit in Poland check [15]

And he said he will start another process to get a residence card and consider it a work permit and residence permit(card) are something different and asking for an additional charge

Youre lawyer is correct. Two different things. How youre charged is up to you. You might not like it but thats how it is.

News / Poland's PIS go back to their old ways [194]

I must say that the antipasti crowd do seem like sore losers. After Reading the Old posts about ho the will never win and now argue over voter turn out.

Off-Topic / The factors that caused the fall of the Soviet Empire [12]

Because of what? Joining NATO or the EU is a possibility for any country as far as I understand. If Russia would choose change some things I suppose it could, in the future.

Law / Poland student visa refusal - 'intention to leave' [51]

These schools are starting to focus more heavily on poor Asian countries like Pakistan and even Bangladesh, hoping to attract wealthier recruits with the lure of a way in to Europe.

Law / Marriage Interview at Foreign Office in Poland - possible questions and chances for a negative response [10]

They don't ask about your sex life, that's ridiculous. If anyone did I'd tell them to go f*** themselves. Just stuff like, did you go on vacation, where, what did you do? What's the last movie you watched together? You can say that you don't remember or don't watch t.v. or whatever and they just ask a different question. As long as your answers basically add up. Don't worry about it.

Genealogy / WHERE IS JNEJANOW in Poland? [12]

Not to throw a wrench into your happiness, but you seem to be into researching this stuff, so...

The second "j" in the name is odd and may fit better with Dzierżanów. There are three in Lodzki, Mazowieckie and Wielkopolski.

Work / New business start-up in Poland - opinions and ideas [32]

I think that if anyone had any good ideas for a business, they would be doing it :) Renting is good because the value of your property usually increases year on year, plus you get the rent. You would just need to screen your potential renters before giving them the place. I've heard many stories of people following their restaurant/coffee shop dreams and failing after losing huge chunks of money, unless you have something unique and really know what you're doing, I'd stay away.

Travel / Do trains in Poland arrive on time? [38]

I wouldn't count on it. PKP is notorious for lateness. All of the renovations cause all sorts of delays. The Pendolino line (according to a news report from yesterday) are only 9 percent complete. Many trains, even for distances of only a hundred kilometers or less, are over an hour late to their destinations. I would leave at least an hour for possible delays coming from Gdansk.

Genealogy / Is Aleska a Polish baby name ? [42]

I think that you can rule out Aleska as a Polish name. Even if you did find it in some obscure place, it is certainly not common here and it won't stand out as a typical Polish name. Even with Aleksandra, it is usually shortened to Ola. There are a number of diminutive forms of this but Aleska isn't one and Aleksa isn't common.

Work / Salaries in the Polish ministries [3]

5.8 thousand the lowest for a specialist? Whoa fella! netting 3k as a specialist is about average. As you go up from referendarz to Głowny Specialist you can expect pay raises of a few hundred zl. a month, of course every ministry is different and you can negotiate a bit but it's about average to top out at a bit over 4k net for main specialist. If you can become a director of a department you're looking at something more around the 8k figure, but director positions are hard to come by without knowing the right people.

Work / Suggestions for starting a business in Poland ( I have 50/60,000 USD ) [59]

Doing what everyone else does will get you the same results and as has been mentioned, countless restaurants and bars open and close in Warsaw in the same year. Unless you have some revolutionary idea which you can't wait to try, I think you would do better investing in stocks or something. Making a go of a small business here ( and anywhere really) is extremely difficult unless you've got something special, but it sounds like you don't.

Love / "going to dinner with my sis..." - approaching a Polish girl, help needed [46]

Is this what the world has come to? Yeah, get off of the internet, put on a nice shirt, be cool and casual talk to her again, make some jokes, remember, all the while being cool and casual and slip a suggestion that you go for lunch, drinks, coffee, etc. This is how we interact with other human organisms

Study / Universities in Poland and ancient Polish pride [4]

No matter how enlightened your views may be, I don't think that such a policy would very beneficial to such a university, if one did indeed exist. Polish unis rake in extra cash by allowing foreigners to study there.

Life / Why there's no STREET FOOD culture in Poland? [8]

All of those videos are from the Far East. I don't think it's only Poland but pretty much all of Europe that doesn't have this kind of street food culture. America and Canada don't either except for what was brought from Mexico and Asia. That being said, Poland does have some, Kielbasa in the rynek, oscypek, pączki, maybe not as fancy and exotic as Asian foods but pretty decent on a cold Winter's day.

Travel / A good kebab place in Warsaw? [45]

EFES is known to have the best Kebab, freshest meat and best quality, I like King Kebab too. I can't believe that someone mentioned the Vietnamese place near Polonia Palace...It's big but not much meat and the vegetables are crap.

Language / I need advice - how long does it take to learn Polish? [70]

Really, there is no way to answer this, learning a language is such an individual thing. You probably know people who can almost just listen to a language and pick up the vocabulary and grammar, some people have to repear things 100 times and still don't really understand the grammar or use it correctly. Get as much exposure to the language as you can and practice.

Work / Moving to Lodz - will my 2500 PLN salary be enough? [52]

2500, 2700, 4000zl. I really don't understand why anyone would move to a different country for such an amount of money. Seemingly educated people at that. The "West" must really be in its death throes.
