It would be fun to see the faces of all those Poles who gave their sympathy vote to this Nigerian only to find out that this was celebrated as a huge black triumph in Nigerian newspapers and tv stations, followed by a 800% increase of visa applications at the Polish embassy in Lagos and ultimately a flood of Nigerians coming "to study" at their daughter's university.

Will happen. Unquestionably. Then there will be no turning back.

I have considered getting a wood burning stove but the kids are against it.

A wood stove throws more heat and is much more efficient than a fireplace.

And who's calling the shots in your house; the children or you?! :)

The new pellet stoves are cool but then you're stuck having to buy the pellets, and I hear they can be expensive.

I don't want to get into all that here. But I will say that the comparison is off a bit. Poland has a lot more in common with the UK than it does with Africa.

If Poland were to suffer an influx of poor blacks it would do more harm than some Poles going to the UK. With racial minorities comes all kind of ugly forced tolerance for multiculturalism... forced diversity... system-suckers, crimes and quotas, on and on. And racial PC bullying to enforce it all.

That this black politician is a Leftist is the truly scary part as you can be sure he'll open the door for all this Lib racial crap. Believe me, I know. We live it over here. And Poland would be doing itself a favor to think long and hard before heading down that road.

Even leftwing Angela Merkel admitted that multiculturalism has done more bad than good things to society.

I know it's not the same extremes but I have always lived with a fire place. If all else fails you can light a fire and cook on it (We did in the 1970s).

A fire brings a house to life is good for the building re air flow and gives a special heat.

I lived in an old house for years with a wood stove that I used as my primary source of heat, leaving the old oil burner as backup. Dealing with the wood becomes a messy big hassle. And your house and everything in it stinks like smoke. Always.

Now I just use my fireplace for ambiance on snowy nights or when company is visiting and as an emergency heater should the power go out for long.

bringing the death toll to 52 since the start of the cold weather season last month

That's actually an interesting comment. The vast majority of negative comments about Blacks/Jews/Arabs/Russians/Germans, etc come from people living abroad. Again, just based on the comments, it would appear that people in Poland don't really care. Granted, we don't really pull the "bigoted Pole living in Poland" demographic very well as it seems they're not big internet users. Nonetheless, the divide in the comments is very interesting.

It's not on a level like our black urban areas. And a lot of Russian crime is Mob related. Organized crime is hardly poverty related either.

I would tend to disagree. Just about every mid sized city in "middle America" has white ghettos full of meth addicts, thieves, and all around worthless people. I can name plenty of places in Texas and Oklahoma..

No. Sure there are pockets. Losers come in all flavors. But they're nothing like every single black area of every single city. They're not even comparable. You don't see block after block of destroyed buildings, that look like something out of WWII Europe after the Germans came through, in any white areas like we do in black areas.

No. But again, they are the exception to the rule. They're not violent criminals so they are proof that a life of crime leads to poverty. They're also proof that our country doesn't discriminate.

To solve the problem, you first figure out who is causing the problem. In the US, just like th rest of the world, it's poor people. Poor blacks, whites, mexicans...

Mostly blacks. No sense trying to deny reality. I don't play that PC game.

Ask them. For one thing they have been raised on a steady diet of 'whitey was mean to us years ago' and all that continues the black bitterness today. They consider it paybacks. They really feel as if they are owed something for events that took place long before they were even alive. And they spend their lives with that racial chip on their shoulders.

As for the Hispanics... You ever go to one of the resorts in say, Mexico or the Bahamas? They're very nice and plush... and they're all surrounded by 16 foot high fences with the perimeter patrolled by guards in paramilitary uniforms carrying automatic weapons. Makes you feel safe... also makes you wonder just what they are protecting you from beyond the compound fence. It's like the Green Zone in Iraq.

More like three or four times once you cut it, split it, move it and stack it... all before you ever actually burn it.

For what it's worth, a friend of a friend in Fort Worth, who is about as Mexican as one can be, shot two white folks while they were breaking into his house. You can google it if you want

The rare anecdotal story hardly invalidates the rule. Over here by and large minorities -primarily blacks- are the violent criminals. The demographics of our prison population is one testament to this.

Criminality is closer related to socioeconomic status than race. Now, the question is, why are certain groups of people in that economic class. Because of the culture? Opportunities? Discrimination? Genetics?

Again, poverty does not equal crime as there are many, many poor people who do not resort to crime. And there's never any excuse for violent crime. Ever.

No, crime leads to poverty a whole lot more than poverty leads to crime.

It's mostly the mindset of the black culture. This is The Land Of Opportunity. And anymore discrimination against minorities is a myth. If anything, whites get discriminated against more here today. And we're not permitted to ponder how genetics factors into all this; that's not PC. :s

Good point. There are sneaky ways to stack firewood that lets a supplier rip you off even further. This is good for drying the wood but bad for your wallet.

This is why I always thought they should sell firewood by weight -like they do stone, etc., rather than by volume. Sure, weight would vary slightly depending on type of wood and how dry it is, but it would still be a more accurate measurement than stacked with all the empty air spaces.

It varies...a trailor load is the normal sized trailor dragged behind the old Ursus tractor , and how much wood is on it depends on how stupid an English person they think you are....!

If possible, avoid buying firewood in units that cannot be related to the standard full cord. Station wagon loads or other units are difficult to compare and can conceal a high price per cord measure.

A cord of wood is 20 m3 (square meters), over here and freshly chopped that will set you back about 2800 PLN you still have to dry it out though. When i bought from the forestry commission last winter it was in 1.5 meter logs so i still had to chainsaw into four logs and axe chop/split them.

That's expensive. And you still have to do all that work...

How much wood is this exactly? Don't they sell firewood over there by the cord like they do over here? Cord is our firewood unit of measure here.

A cord of mixed hardwoods, seasoned (aged/ dry), split and delivered (dumped in a pile, not stacked) is going for about $150 now here. This is actually down a bit in price from what it was last year. I don't know why.

This is actually worth noting here too.

Back in, say, the 1970's whenever a family was fortunate enough to be able to purchase an expensive new home appliance they'd proudly put the big empty box out at the curb for the trashmen to take, hoping all their neighbors would see it. It was a bit of bragging, of flaunting their prosperity, earning them a small degree of prestige among their peers. (This is in part how the term 'Keeping up with the Jones' came to be.)

Nowadays, no one dares put that box out at the curb where others would see it -particularly in urban (black) areas. Now they try to slip the new TV into the house when no one is watching and hide the box and find a way to dispose of it discretely.

The very last thing they want to do is broadcast to the homies that they have a brand new flat screen TV in the house. Doing so would just be inviting a break-in robbery or armed home invasion.

Again, this has nothing to do with poverty or need and everything to do with blacks' caveman criminal mentality of just taking something they want without working for it. And most often the target of their crimes are whitey whom they have been taught to resent for long ago historical grievances. They feel entitled, like whitey owes it to them.

It may be a factor but I don't buy into that old 'poverty equals crime' canard. It's an excuse. There are plenty of poor people who do not resort to crime and violence. It's not like they're out robbing to put food on the table or to pay the rent.

Europeans always think it's non-stop shoot outs here because they believe everything Hollywood puts out.

One has to consider demographics too. We have a great number of blacks here, many more than any European country. And blacks comprise the overwhelming majority of our violent and criminal element. They skew every statistic from shootings to crime and poverty. Subtract them from the mix and the US would be one of the very safest places on earth. And the most prosperous, coz all them blacks and the problems they bring come with great cost...

Not PC to say but absolutely true.

Plus look at Maybe's stat site again. Ten of the top 20 countries are of majority black or Hispanic populations. Them folks are just more violent, less civilized, that's all there is to it.

Funny story... Several years ago Philly was in the grips of a murder spree. The homies in that predominantly black city were gunning one another down at an alarmingly high rate, topping all other US cities and making it more dangerous than even Baghdad at the time. Anyway, there was much weeping and hand wringing about this... until it was disclosed that a full 75% of the murder victims themselves had violent criminal records! Suddenly the weeping and hand wringing stopped. I guess most folks were like me: 75% perfectly fine with the murder rate and hoping the homies might better increase their aim. Lol. ;)
