UK, Ireland / Why can't the poles speak english, if they want to work in England? [35]

why cant the poles speak english, if they want to work in this country speak english its rude!

We don't have to. This is the Polish island now. We don't need any Englishmen to prosper.
Anyway - they are all retired on Costa del Sol. Only some chavs left here.
We don't have to take care about them. It's not our problem. They will die out soon.

Want a job, mate? Learn Polish.

UK, Ireland / Poles and Irish, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [62]

The Irish from the Polish point of view:

- They drink as heavy as we do.
- They are Catholics.
- They sing a sad songs about lost heroes when drunk.
- They care about something that happened 500 years ago and then:
- They pick up a fight to decide who was right 500 years ago.

Summarization:
Polish? Irish? What the difference?
Lets drink, be marry and prise the virgin Mary! ;-)

Life / Support wanted to stop the sale of live carp in Poland [74]

At first sight - its a noble cause. You want to stop the carp suffering.

But I can see right through your sweet propaganda.

You are a carp hater! You want to kill them all! You want them dead.
This is sick.
I don't know - maybe some carp did something wrong to you when you was a child?
Maybe some carp female hurts your feeling a lot? I don't know. And I don't care.

Whatever IS your reason - there shall be no excuse for the Carp Extermination Movement!
You sicko.

LONG LIVE CARP!

History / Poland obliged to make war reparations to Austria and Germany after WWI. Why? [119]

I am Polish born and educated in Poland and I have never heard about any reparations paid to Germany and/or Austria by Poland. Quick internet research also shows no results.

As for de-industrialisation. My home town is in the old Prussian territory. I assure you that the German-built bridges, factories, trains stations etc are still in place.

USA, Canada / Name Your Poison: How a Banned Polish Vodka Buffaloed Its Way Into the U.S. [15]

I have had this drink and like it a lot. Some friends gave it to me with apple juice. Nice

And that is how it shall be drink! It's called "szarlotka" (apple pie).

BTW - This is another proof that the US government is evil to the core. How such a tasty booze could be banned?

News / Polish cleaner blows the lid on 'dirty' Germans [124]

I like to play with the unfair generalisations and stereotypes.
And I can think about some negative stereotypes about the Germans.
But the "dirty German"? Nah. It's definitely untrue.

Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

I'm sure they managed to take a few Polish women with 'em.

If the Polish women were the same as today I wouldn't like to take them with me if I was the defeated Swedish solider. For what? To hear for the rest of my life how miserable I am? :-)

Language / Some Ideas for a band name using the Polish language? [94]

I like the sound of the word "Fornir".
To preserve the sound it should be spelled Forneer in English. (But hey - "Voivod" is not a real Polish word either)
The word meant nothing special here
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_veneer

It sounds a little French. Like Film Noir. ;-)

The other word is "Czaban" (English spelling shall be like Chaban i suppose.)
This word is so old and so rarely used that explaining it's meaning is quite difficult.

I like the rhythm of this word. Like Boom booom ban cha-ban!

Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

Various persons have got different goals - obviously.

Some generalisation is possible when we take a look from the perspective of few centuries.
What is a driving power of Poland?

Power, money, domination of course - but this is common along the other nations.

I think that what put Poland aside is our deep and pious love for chaos.
Of course - we like to call it a love for the "golden freedom", but the chaos is better expression.

At least for the last 500 years there are many examples that the Poles did not like any forms of government. We did not trust our Kings, then we did not trust our Naczelnik, we did not trust the Communist government and as a nation we don't trust any government that was freely elected since 1989.

In the King's times the roughly organised anarchy (euphemistically called the Noble's Democracy) was the official political dogma.
When the Swedish invaded us they soon find out that the conquer the Poland is one thing. But ruling Poland is something much more complicated. They found the Polish completely unmanageable and has left our country with despair and contempt in their hearts.

Genealogy / Jalowiecki coat of arms and title inheritance? [21]

Explain what? Only way to use your coat of arm is to put it as a middle name. No way that the Polish goverment will grant you any kind of papers that you are a noble.

The last Sejm (National Assembly) that can confirm or deny the one's right to bear the coat of arm took place in the Anno Domini 1793. Current Polish government has no right (or interest) to do so.

I know plenty of poles that put their Clan name as a middle name.

Peasants. That's what they are. No more and no less.

The real szlachta has got no urge to brag about their coat of arms. They didn't put it as a middle name or displayed it above the fireplace.

They understood that being part of the szlachta is an obligation and a duty more than a privilege. They understood that they have to prove themselves worthy. You certainly don't know a "middle name" of Józef Piłsudski, do you?

Real Estate / Central Heating System Installation Advice (flat near Zakopane) [7]

Initially I was contemplating a standard wood burner with back boiler and radiators but then considerd the freezing water effect on the system during the colder months when the flat is empty.

Do like the Romas (well... Poles) do.

Install standard low-tech central heating system based on water. And dry it up before winter. The additional cost is about 3.50PLN (for an extra valve)

At the moment I am thinking more about a wood burner with hot air delivery system but am not sure as to it's effectiveness and the possible problem of dust being blown into each room.

For some reason these system are not very popular in Poland. And I think to know why: cost and effectiveness. I would not recommend this solution.

On a side note does 5000zl for 4 good sized double windows

The Polish windows are quite different than those in the UK. Take under consideration that -20C is nothing uncommon in Poland during the Winter time.

Worth to know:
- outside glass covered by the thin layer of metal will reduce costs of heating greatly
- three chambered profiles are a minimum
- argon filled gap between the glasses are OK
- three sets of gaskets (instead of standard 2) are much more effective.

Genealogy / Jalowiecki coat of arms and title inheritance? [21]

So lets say your name is Max. Then you could change it to Max Lodzia Jałowiecki.

This is how most of the poles that were szlachta before ww2 are doing , since after ww2 when the Commies took over they abbolished all the inheritance rights the szlachta used to have.

bollocks

But to be accepted among the other szlachta families in Poland you need to have certain noblilty documents that all of them that were "worthy" rich enough gained during the 18th century by the foregin courts that ruled Poland at that time.

again.

I can explain my statement if anyone is interested in the question of coats of arms, szlachta, etc. But I feel it's quite pointless.

News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

Maybe you right. Maybe they shall give the money to the poor.

But we have got no right to decide what this small community decide to do with their money.
Well at least until the Americans would sell the statue of freedom and donate the money to the charity. Or the French - the Eiffel tower. Or the British - the Eye of London.

I admire the Swiebodzin people! And I know that as long as there are people like them - there is no reason to worry about islamization, globalization, or any other "-ation" in Poland.

The message is simple: This is Poland. This is a Jesus Country, so phunk off!
