USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

Then you get the American Polonia, who are frankly idiots. They consider themselves to be Polish, yet they don't speak the language, nor do they have any interest in the country.

Then there's the fact that many of them can't even pronounce their name properly - I'm sorry, but you can't claim to be Polish if you can't even say your last name properly. Then you get the fact that many of them claim that their great-grandparents came from Poland - yet when you listen to them, you discover that they emigrated before 1920.

So then if someone goes to college and learns the Polish language fluently, learns how to pronounce their last name perfectly, learns more Polish history, and then discovers that their grandparents emigrated in 1921, they switch from not being Polish to being Polish? Is that how ancestry is decided? It doesn't make sense.

Sorry, but if you claim to be Polish-American, then you should be fluent in Polish (not just in listening/speaking) and you should actually have spent a decent amount of time in Poland. Holding a Polish passport and voting Jarek doesn't make you Polish!

Other races have no problem when someone wants to identify themselves with the homeland of their parents or ancestors. They're actually happy and proud to find someone who has the same ancestry as them and they feel a kinship. For some reason, people from Poland have a problem with it. When someone's parents or grandparents were from Poland and they want to recognize that, it's not acceptable. Why is that?

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

Tymoteusz, do you look "white"? It's not that simple for people who are mixed with a race that is considered "minority" such as Latino, African American, Asian, etc. Not everyone gets treated equally like that, like we're all just "Americans". Even the government Census separates people into racial groups. For example, they consider you "Hispanic or Latino" if you had a parent or grandparent from a Latin American country. It doesn't matter if you and all your other ancestors were American or European.

UK, Ireland / The slow, whiny death of British Christianity [86]

Seems like a couple more people like the other guys...

We all know this, which is the point to the thread but to say that Christianity is a dying thing is not realistic. It's probably like that in some countries but not in the U.S. The stadium in California has 45,000 seats, and people in the parking lot watching on a screen who couldn't get in. That's just one night in one small part of the world.

I also have a video for you to watch:

No one is denying that there are a lot of people who don't follow religion. We all know that. It exists in the U.S., too, but Christianity is alive and well in the world regardless. Otherwise, all the churches, mega churches, and Christian concerts would not have thousands upon thousands of people in them on a regular basis. (some churches have several services per day on Sundays because there are so many people)

Of course people like skysoulmate have the right to believe in whatever they want, but he should know that he's part of the minority who really does,

Are you sure about that? Look at all the people in this video, (which starts at 40 seconds). This is a Christian concert and all of those people made the decision to follow Christ. It sounds like the churches are different in the U.S. ? Don't they have things like this overseas?

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

Send them a bill, an invoice with a list of everything they've taken and the amount of money that they owe you. Tell them if they don't pay you, it will go to court. (It will be just to scare them into stopping, of course).

Love / Korean guy wondering about girls and life in Poland [50]

Also, can anyone compare the beauty of Polish women to the beauty of Czech women?
which is sexier/prettier?

Wrong question for a Polish Forum.

Can you compare the sexiness of Korean men to the sexiness of Japanese men? Which is sexier?

Love / Sigh... Polish girls have such pretty eyes. [51]

polish guys are a turn-off for my with their cocky ways and high egos.

That's such a stereotypical remark. Not all of them are like that. It's like saying all Korean men are mean and abusive, which they have the reputation for being. Obviously it's not true for all of them.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

After WWII there were a lot of Polish refugees that came to the States. The Polish Refugees (called DP's for Displaced Persons).

Yeah, I've heard that many didn't speak English very well and didn't know how to explain the spellings of their last names, which gave them the reputation for being less than smart (and also caused many misspelled surnames in the U.S.).

USA, Canada / Pol-AM eateries/delis in California [17]

Isn't there a Polish church in Los Angeles that serves Polish food on Sundays?

Genealogy / Knew I was Hungarian, but my DNA came back Polish? [23]

So late last year I had an autosomal DNA test done. Of the top 20 region matches, 15 of them were in Poland!? I asked about any Polish history in our family, and no one seems to know of any.

Bob, did they give you three matches: Native, Global, and World Populations? Did you get Polish in all matches? Were they your top matches?

I took the test some time ago and got matched with the exact city where my dad was born. So there's definitely accuracy involved.

Love / Dating a Polish guy for three years. Will he ever marry me? [44]

No relationship is guaranteed to last and not end in heartache. If you really want to marry someone, he doesn't sound ready and you should look for someone else. If you're just worried about the future, you should stop worrying and just enjoy what you have while it's yours. Even if he married you today, he could leave you tomorrow. Why worry about something that hasn't happened yet or that you can't control?

Life / If I say POLAND, you say...? [100]

And if that wasn't enough millions of Mexicans are pouring though the so called US border. They aren;t even sure how many. 10 million? 20?

I thought they weren't coming here anymore and those who are here are leaving because the economy is so bad.

Love / Should i wear this to a polish wedding or not? :) [27]

Why does the picture say Discount Clothing 151? Is this a picture of someone else in the dress? I think it would depend on what it looks like on you. It's a lovely dress but the colors are loud for a wedding. Maybe a solid color would be better. But I wouldn't worry about the issue of not wearing white. I think that no longer matters.
