USA, Canada / Taste of Polonia - Chicago, IL [40]

It was fun to be there again...the Grazyna Auguscik concert was disappinting. I guess I'm not into this kind of music.
Not into 'brittish invasion' either. Hehehehe.

Food / Electric Grilling - I highly recommend it :) [30]

I prefer gas grills, they are much cleaner. Maybe there is a little charcoal taste sacrifice, but not enough to deal with the mess! :)
George Foreman grill is great in the winter!

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

I am black and polish and my parents are from where I said they were.

Well, because your dad was from Englewood, his last name is anything but Sklodowski.
I can understand why you may not speaking polish, no reason to do so since your grandma still speaks 'polack english' as you said and your momma may not speak much polish being born here. Did the kids call you bad names in school? Offensive ones? (I hope your childhood was not miserable). It is you who can shed some light on that. Yeah, I am skeptical about your 'story'.

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

"Mark Zable hasn't revealed how he keeps his beer liquefied throughout the frying process, but samplers had no doubt they were biting into beer. Each salty ravioli releases a geyser of warm, sour beer when chewed. Since the unexpected presence of liquid in one's mouth is typically an indicator of a medical malady, reactions to the dish were mixed"

OK, so it is more like a deep fried salty beer ravioli...maybe I would have a one to taste what the heck it is. Jeez, what do they come up with next? Anything to keep the people FAT and make money? lol.

Love / Do African or Afro- American women find Polish men attractive? [179]

Do African women find Polish men attractive?

You never know until you try. Next time you see African looking woman try to pick her up and see what happens...I tend to see more African men with white women but not too many African women with white men..not sure if there is a reason for it.

(quote=Marek11111]garaletka z wieprzaka[/quote]
Galaretka z wieprzka is very good as well as galaretka z chicken. Both like to be sprinkled with lemon or vinegar.

I snapped some pics at the TOP today. Sledzik and me we had a few Stawski piwo.. I had a kebab for the first time in my life. The flavor reminded me of tacos... :)

OMG, it was a lot of people there, considering it was the last day of the fest. Loved it! (as usual)

Life / POLISH YOUTH compared to the youth in other Western countries? [57]

smell and taste consumerism and affluent lifestyle in the west

and don't forget the smell of the gutters where you come from...I wonder what's going on in the little head of yours, unless...you just get a kick out of trolling. So go ahead, make a fool of yourself.

Life / Polish pride. PL stickers, flags and the white eagle! Where does our obsession come from? [79]

The need to be part of the herd.

Each and every country is a herd, every national or ethnic group is a herd, you are a part of herd at work,...a family unit is a herd - you name it. People are social animals and need to be a part of a group or a team if you prefer. No individual can survive alone.

Hence, there is nothing wrong with identifying yourself with a country and expressing it, we all do. Some people may just be more open about it than others.

News / 30 years of Solidarity in Poland? Fat chance! [23]

Her speech reminded me of this song
"Stoję przy mikrofonie, niech mnie który przegoni"

This is perfect. I forgot about the song. Stuhr was great in it! lol. Gosh, 1977...the times were not easy but it did not stop people from having fun!

News / 30 years of Solidarity in Poland? Fat chance! [23]

YOU GO GIRL!

Love it!!!

Well Solidarity's goal was never the establishment of capitalism (as they understood it). Their model was a western welfare state like Sweden.

They probably really didn't know what exactly they wanted or what the end result might be, but anything could be better than what we had at the end of 70's: nothing but long lines for food and empty shelves in the stores.

the general idea was to portray Solidarity as "hooligans" - people more intent on trouble and their own well being than the well being of the country.

A typical communist information for the people. How dare the hooligans not appreciate what they have, which is: nothing.

Walesa for instance was riding around with a personal car and driver, and many other high ranking officials within his "circle" in Solidarity were doing quite well for themselves too.

That's what all leaders do, don't they?

Life / Polish pride. PL stickers, flags and the white eagle! Where does our obsession come from? [79]

What frustrates me is the obsession with the past.

Having a queen and a bunch of freeloaders to support that's what I would call the obsession with the past.
You know, when I was going to school in Poland they 'made us' to carry flags during the May 1 celebration. You should see how we were hiding behind each other not to be the one who gets the flag! Pretty sad, huh? There was no pride then and for a good reason. So if the people want to express themselves now - let them. This too shall pass.
