Work / Advice on Teaching in Silesia [23]

As John Lennon said "life is what happens to you whilst you're busy making other plans". This is sometimes the case in my life but I have an easier week this week :) You do have to work hard to get good money in teaching. It was even better before but I moved away from that school due to a lack of hours.

Rybnik? I know a guy who works in Rybnik and he is going back to England for the summer. An English guy, really nice.

Work / Advice on Teaching in Silesia [23]

I teach in a private school plus have a regular crop of students here in Silesia. I think you are thinking of state school teachers. Also worth checking out is the summer options. I still hit the 5.5k mark this month but it will fall away a little as more students go on their holidays. However, I'm not here for the money as that's not what it's all about. At least I believe a teacher shouldn't think that way. You are there to help and if that isn't in your nature then I'd recommend a change of profession.

It depends how much work gets given to them and how many privates they can get. Look to get around 5.5k per month gross.

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

Like many Brits, Daisy, yes. However, it doesn't change the fact that many enjoy the coastal resorts and Britain enjoys the advantage of being an island. I know many Poles that travel from the south of Poland right up to the north just to experience the coast. Many Poles tend to enjoy it so they will feel happier and less inclined to hit out.

It's not that bad for a first job. You will have to be a little careful with it but you won't have to pay much ZUS so you should have a reasonable level of disposable income.

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

I'm nobody's pet, isthatu2. Best remember that and best stay on topic. I tell people what they need to know. If they don't like it then they can tell me to my face and see how far that gets them.

Britain is currently enjoying a hot spell and that makes people happier. The incidences of sniping at other country's people reduces as the feelbad factor slips away. Therefore, I don't think you will see so many jabs at Poles from the English.

I also feel that many Poles like England as they love wearing England football shirts :)

Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

Pol3, ask a practising gay living in Poland, how open do you feel Poland is on this matter?

UK, Ireland / Polish clubs / pubs in Dublin? [17]

Because the locals are in the majority. There are huge numbers of Poles in Dublin so finding a Polish pub shouldn't be hard.

UK, Ireland / Polish clubs / pubs in Dublin? [17]

Pubs I can understand but why clubs? Why not mix with the locals like most people do when they travel?

Life / How many Jewish people live in Poland? [145]

The simple answer is, not so many. Rumour has it that Tusk sent sb round Poland on a salary of 500PLN per month to count them all :) Why does it matter anyway? Check Polish census data as that what a census is for.

UK, Ireland / Poles top the UK's EU crime figures [78]

I really find it astonishing how people desert what their university education teaches them, or should teach/have taught them at least. Namely, that one source says this whilst another one says this, yet another one says this etc etc. Blanket assertions serve little purpose as they are invariably based on prejudice or defensiveness. I don't profess to know either way but I know that many 'wayward' Poles went across but, again, I don't see the point in predicting what they have done, did or didn't do. That's for the police.

News / Germany provoke Poland using Silesian question. Poland's attitude ? [124]

Which way to go? You mean to separate or not? There is a certain laissez-faire mentality here, you are right. My answer has already been stated above in that they will only start speaking out if their identity is threatened. Again, just a standard human response. I often maintain also that such movements come from bored minds. I mean, what is stopping people from being Silesian here in Silesia? It can freely embrace its diversity.

News / Germany provoke Poland using Silesian question. Poland's attitude ? [124]

Well, it is easier having a Silesian family in law, yes :) However, it is not full-on by any extent. As I said before, it is stronger the closer to Katowice you go. I couldn't understand some things those 'Chorzowians' said ;) However, my wife also didn't understand the word 'dołza' when I wrote it to her the other day and she is much more Silesian than I will ever be, more by default than by language.

Your English is far from poor. Like native speakers, myself very much included, it can be loose but that's no shame.

They melted together to try and form one fabric, yes. I know a guy from Cieszyn and he acknowledges the Czech movements from there and around Silesia.

AS, your English suggested that Silesia is 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 in terms of numbers between German, Polish and Czech. You are painting it far too black+white, AS. They are often hybrids like my parents in law. They are mixed. Both of their mothers were pure German. However, they spoke Polish to them. My mother in law speaks more Silesian than my father in law but they both see themselves as Silesian.

UK, Ireland / Poles top the UK's EU crime figures [78]

What's your name, son? Eh, Paweł. Job? Factory worker. Second job? Car thief :) :) Supplemental income :) Joking aside, I can see some hiking up the figures as part of an agenda. Poles excel in smart crime but Brits are far worse when it comes to serious crimes.

I think some of those Poles that commit crimes in the UK were victims of unrest back home. A certain kind of Pole is pretty defeatist and negative about life here. Dissatisfaction itself is an important factor.
