Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

It's an incredibly destructive cycle. We have managed to create an excess amount of food using very destructive techniques which has led to a population boom which leads to even more farming of plants and animals. The circle keeps feeding itself and getting bigger and bigger...

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

After a while he will start complaining that he is not compensated sufficiently for all the work he's doing for you. Guaranteed...

Now you can fire them. You're paying on the high side of the market rate, you can be picky.

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

Nowhere on earth are people working harder if they earn more per hour. That's a fairytale. Do you really believe that the lazy ass you hired for minimum wage will work harder when you pay him above minimum?

absolutely. greater incentive not to lose their job.

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

You honestly expect someone to chop his butt for minimum wage get real? Instead of ******** give them an incentive (a raise) or roll up your own sleeves if you want your business to prosper, what makes you think it would be any easier in Poland? Because the wages are low?

Absolutely agree

You haven’t done your research properly, instead of blaming the laws and bureaucracy blame yourself for failing to do so.

Raises the cost of doing business immensely, bad for the economy as a whole. It shouldn't take that much effort to get something simple done.

Four words for you (quality demands premium price).

The problem is even paying a premium, you don't get constant quality. Same problem in CZ. We got smart and started buying from the Vietnamese. Consistent quality.

Bureaucracy, the point is you suppose to have all of the documentation pertaining to your business on hand, not the government.

They have to be current documents...which the government issues. Are you defending the stupidity of this?

Conclusion – a rant of spoiled Yank who would have avoided some of the complications if he set up his business in his own country

Plenty of truth in it though...Why reject improvement?

News / Poland's elite more pro-US than society? [29]

Poland decided to get involved in those unwanted wars. Afghanistan is a NATO mission, Iraq isn't. Canada is in the exact same boat as the US, except with more resources per capita...

Work / Getting an entertainment Gig in Poland - how to go about it? [8]

Also, don't ask money. It's tough enough to get free drinks, so if you can get that, settle for it.

There is no reason not to get free booze if you're not getting paid. We won't take money, but I expect my booze and someone to help with lugging the equipment around.

If you want to get famous, this is also the best way to start.

Best way would be to get together with a promoter right now. Word of mouth needs a very strong kick in the ass.

How would you go about it?
Should I just contact bands that are gonna be playing in the city over the coming months or promoters or do the venues look after stuff like that.

If you just want to play music for the hell of it, get with the club manager or owner and make a deal. That's what brought cowpunk to Wroclaw..

History / Pole who burned himself to protest the 1968 Soviet invasion [81]

Yes indeed it's common in Poland and in the rest of Europe. Kinda pisses me of some times.

Atlas Shrugged and Animal Farm should be required reading in schools. They can even let them read Das Kapital to balance it out.

Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

I am lucky in that i can adapt to anything...if you dropped me in the middle of Mongolia tomorow i would soon have a bunch of Mongolian friends showing me how to go on...

I can absolutely guarantee that.

Some friends that I met posing with the near dead g-ride (traded them the panda and everything in it for a ride to UB...). There are no roadblocks that you can't get around with the right people...

gride

UK, Ireland / Ive been in the UK for 6 days to relocate and im going back to Poland. [281]

Ah, but it's back to the contacts thing and opportunity

Contacts are made, opportunities are identified. If don't teach people from a young age how to see and use opportunities at a young age, they'll be fairly lost. There seems to be a lot of idealist sugarcoating that goes on in schools which really hurts the people going to them. They never really learn about the structure that they're getting into, much less the skills that they need to function within it without struggling.

Our society has been in a race to the bottom for a long, long time. There are plenty of people that would rather save up for a week to pay for a half assed job, then to save up for two weeks for quality work, whatever the field. I pay the lady that cleans my house 100zl for about 3 hours of work. She does an awesome job, and I am happy with it. It's apparently good money for her, and a good value for me. I could get it much cheaper, but why? Good work ethic + competency should always equal decent pay.

Now, regarding manual laborers taking bribes, that's a good reflection on the available skill pool for a certain job. If I can do it after watching a video on youtube, I can trade my time and get it done. The investment of time to learn law or medicine might is a bit higher. There is a huge difference between learning how to lay a slab, and making the connections needed to buy the piece of land...

If you have a large availability of a certain resource, the price drops for that resource. Demand for quality is usually trumped by cost of the resource, direct byproduct of consumerism on every level.

If people were honest, we'd talk about this directly and openly. It's a system, it's not even that difficult to understand.

History / Pole who burned himself to protest the 1968 Soviet invasion [81]

1968 the Warsaw Pact countries invaded Czechoslovakia on Soviet orders to put an end to the Prague Spring, Other Soviet-bloc armed forces, including Poland’s military, were also forced by their Soviet masters to participate in the invasion.

Like the Romanians were forced? Albanians? Some countries stood up, some went along for the ride. Poland was unfortunately one of the latter.

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

RIGHT.

Not sure what you're getting at. The average Pole won't have the global purchasing power of the average American for some time to come. This repeated the world over, but obviously changing with the single global market. Imports cost more, domestic services are much cheaper. How many hours do you have to work in the US to get a tooth extracted? It's probably going to be cheaper here. How about to buy a kilo of onions? About the same, maybe a bit cheaper? Go out to see concert? Definitely cheaper here. Buy a PS3, quite a bit cheaper in the US.

I suppose it's more of a question of what kind of lifestyle are you expecting? Staples are important, and in the grand scheme of things, aren't much more expensive that the US (in hours worked), even taking into consideration the lack of economies of scale and cheap transportation.

Fairly close? Polands is running at 57% for this year and the States are running at 100%, in fact, its predicted that the interest payments alone will soon be higher than their GDP.
What does it matter, they print their own currency anyway.

Here's a secret, everyone using fiat currency magics up their own money. Inflation is a pretty good indicator on how much money is flooding the market...

You're absolutely right, the 2009 numbers paint a bit more rosy of a picture. The US currently has 13.3tm in outstanding public debt on a 14.6tm GDP. Social Security is the US white elephant that makes up the largest chunk of that debt. Pensions here will become a much larger issue here in the next 10-20 with the demographic situation. There will either be cuts or borrowing. Considering how addicted the populace is to government money, I'm banking on the latter.

The difference seems to be in the wages earnt and the taxation in europe, not so much in the cost of the product. Now we could argue that the Americans are subsidised with their cars and their fuel costs (lucy them) but, Poland does not have a $11 trillion dollar budget defecite which at some point in time is going to have to be tackled. Lets see if there is such a price difference for products then.

I think it's a bit more important to look at debt as a percentage of GDP. The US is fairly close to Poland in that regard.

Ploes should realise that the USA doesn't give a **** about its allies.

When has the US broken a military alliance?

Every country is in it for their own self interest...Poland included. That's why they sent troops to the desert.
