Life / Any treatment centres for homos in Poland? [455]

Too many people have no knowledge of homosexuality other than soem silly slogan like 'gay is OK', ignoring the diverse physical, psychological, ethical, public-health, political economic and demographic aspects of the question.

I read the article, didn't read anything that should bother you unless you're having sex with men.

Anyway, I'm all for following the old testament...Which is why I believe that if you marry and your wife is not a virgin, you are obligated to murder her at her fathers house. That whole murdering people of other religions who pray in your town is pretty neat too. Even better than that, if a family man goes out and has sex with another man, you have to slaughter his children, awesome.

Rock on.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

Thank you for rebuilding Breslau and Danzig the german way mostly...that was nice of you! :)

Renovation work going on in Wroclaw is awesome. They are doing quite a few of the old facades. It's just a shame that you have a beautiful late 19th century building standing next to Kruschev era cubed up building. At least Stalin had some taste (even if it was mostly plaster).

History / Poland - Scotland, the untold story... [75]

So now you are slagging of intelligent Poles who work here in many different jobs such as Accounting, Finance ect? In your own words Poles can only be toilet cleaners...

Which probably pisses me off the most in all this. The idea that all Poles are working crappy jobs and not learning anything. The level of ignorance is astounding.

To all, please keep to the original topic.

Off topic posts will be removed. Thank you.

History / Poland - Scotland, the untold story... [75]

I know enough.

How? You're not here. You rely on the international media, and maybe some local contacts to provide you with information. Am I wrong there? Why not come here and educate yourself on what's going on.

Pure media propaganda. Like i said its looks great in the short term, but later on it hurts the economy more then it helps it.

Funny, I know a couple of people who have come back and built houses, started businesses, paid of debts to free capital. How does that hurt the economy? Maybe your media is lying to you? My eyes aren't lying to me.

Try to calculate how much Poland spends on free education and free healthcare on each person in a period of 18 years.

Not a lot. How many Poles leave for good?

Obviously the parents pays taxes... But does that mean it's right that their children should move to the UK and work and live like animals just so they can earn a little bit more?

I think it's pretty unfair to say that. There are a lot of people working blue collar jobs, some working white collar jobs. Live like animals is a bit sensationalist, don't you think? And as was mentioned earlier, Poles would rather get off their asses and work than sit around collecting checks in Poland.

Just curious, if you don't live here, and you're not Polish, why does Poland interest you so much?

History / Poland - Scotland, the untold story... [75]

I have not gone anywhere yet... Still in Poland and looking here for opportunities :)

We're talking about the theoretical zet that went to the Sweden to work for a marketing company.

Do it if you want too. But im just telling you that you wont be welcomed with balloons and happy faces...

But seriously, what do you know about Poland? You don't live here. Hell, have you ever lived here?

People leaving the country will never be profitable. Short term YES, but in the end some people will decide to settle in their new country and will stop sending money to Poland.

And the majority come back home with money that they reinvest into Poland. Poles spending money to build Poland. What's bad about that again?

You know Poland is wasting shitloads of cash to educate you guys, and you spit her in the face by taking some dirty construction job in the UK when she wasted miljons of Zloty to educate you properly. The school is for free you know?

Because working the dirty UK construction job, sending money back, and having that money buy things that have 22% VAT is still a net gain for the Polish treasury. You are making the DDR argument by the way. The government didn't pay for a damn thing. Students parents paid for it. Their children can go wherever they damn well please. After all, they paid for it.

Travel / Pet carrier with LOT (from Romania to US) [6]

It will fit in the 767 without a problem. Remember your connecting flight in Bucharest means you don't have as much space. Why not take one of those dog purse thingies?

20cm x whatever, seems such a small space for any animal on a long flight, surely they must be some laws about this?

Hahhahaha, they don't exactly care much for the big animals sitting in the seats, what makes you think they care about the small ones under them?

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

so yeah, I said $600, you're saying $700. po prostu, do dupy.

It's all relative. She does alright on that. That whole rent free bit helps, considering that 80% of Poles don't pay rent, $700 take home is more than quite a few of my friends in the states have left over.

That said, I couldn't live my lifestyle on the average US wage. I couldn't live it on twice the average US salary. It's all about where you're looking at it from. From my perspective, I could say something along the lines of, "I couldn't imagine having to take out a loan to buy a house, car, university, etc". Does that mean that someone that does is poor? It's all relative.

Beer?

Price of a 4 bedroom house outside of towm, almost the same

Right. But the EU is an ongoing process. EU membership doesn't automatically mean that wages will be instantly equalized. That doesn't make any sense. In 50 years, we might get closer to income equality, but it's a slow process. Take Portugal, average monthly wage is a bit under €900/mo. Prices are about the same as in Poland. Housing is more expensive.

Growth is happening as it should, and at a fairly fast rate. Real salaries have risen dramatically over the last 10 years, which can't be said for most high income economies. You can see it here on the ground as well as in the statistics. Average monthly wages in Poland in 2004 was 2200pln, in 5 years, that has increased to over 3200pln in Q4/09, and has been accelerating in recent years. That makes for between 5-10% year on year growth for the last 5 years. That seems like a good way forward to me.

Are the salaries on par with Ireland, of course not. Will they be anytime soon? Probably not. Are they growing? Absolutely.

On a side note, there are plenty of houses available all over the country for under €50000. Also good to take into account regarding housing, growth obviously plays a role in pricing.

Food / Does anyone know a good equivalent of 'US cream cheese'? [11]

On the other hand, if someone knows where to find fresh corn tortillas (esp white corn) then I'm all ears.

Make 'em. I do :) you can buy masa in wroclaw, or just grab some regular corn flour.

I mix it in a bread machine, break off little balls, slap them between two pieces of wax paper, roll them flat, throw them in the pan. They freeze well too.

Feedback / The image of Poland according to PolishForums [90]

The vast majority of people on this forum are not Polish they are British(a lot of them own properties and a are aggressive developers) . So its far from factual.

It seems like a lot of people compare the situation here to their home country which isn't relevant for say a Turk, Indian, or Brazilian coming to Poland.

Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

"Not so good" relative to where/who?

To the high income countries? To the middle income countries? Which aspects aren't good? How is it worse off than 5 years ago? 10 years ago?

Freedom of movement will/does allow everyone the chance to go wherever they want.

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

Someone very close to me took a job at HP last year with a bachelors, first job, making 2800. She's moving jobs because the salary is too low. HP is always hiring because they can hardly get people to work and stay for that money.

And I'll put my money where my mouth is. Will hire no experience CCNAs for 3200 a month. Is there anybody out there?

typical

So you think that salaries aren't rising, and that jobs aren't be created? I don't think I'm following you. Do you know of any middle income countries where the situation is different?

szklanka jest do połowy pełna, co nie convex? ;)

Well, I'm optimistic about growth...the current situation isn't that great, but the important thing is that there is improvement.

Work / Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland [263]

A friend who could not find work as a Child Psychologist went for a job in an office, she'd had some office experience and just needed a source of income. She was told afterwards that she had priced herself out of the job by saying she was not prepared to work for less than 1200 zl per month.

Does she have any skills at all? Language skills perhaps? Google and HP are hiring in Wroclaw. Entry level positions pay very close to the average wage you mentioned.

pumping positive information about the economical situation of Poland, which is consistently false.

Salaries are rising, jobs are being created, what's false about that? Average income is half to a third that of high income countries. There is no place in the world where imported products are relative wages.

Law / Used Vehicle Bought in Poland - Registration Question [15]

Just an update. We went to the registration place with two contracts, and it wasn't a problem. So just to clarify:

Vehicle documents were in the original owners name

Sales contract between the original owner and me

Sales contract between me and and the third person

Third person was able to register it without a problem.

Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

Most contracts through mobile providers are quite a bit cheaper if you bring your own phone. That is, it's cheaper to buy the phone from the beginning instead of paying for it every month. The contract phone is like buying a phone on credit, list plus interest. Buying a phone is like paying in cash on day one.

The only benefit I know of is that there is no contract (or one year only?) when you buy your own phone..

And it's usually cheaper in the long run. With the "new phone every 2 years" gig, you just pay for the phone over a longer period of time, with a premium attached to it.

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

not paying high wages at the same time.

dunno, that's always caused problems for me. I'd rather be on the higher end of the scale and attract quality talent. Easier to manage when they don't feel like they're shafted, and the quality is much higher...which means less stress for me in the end. I see tough job market as an opportunity to pick up better talent. But, to each his own.
