Travel / Live cameras over Poland [21]

To aid the visually impaired as well as the curious, I guess.

:):):)

At about this time of the evening, a few lasses hanging around giving out leaflets to Poles' pole dancing clubs, and probably a few drunk Brits from somewhere like Brentwood on a stag weekend posing by the statues. Check back in an hour for an eccentric, solitary German tourist videoing the busking musicians outside Spiz.

This about Wrocław Square, right? What is Spiz?

Life / Etiquette in a Store and Market Queues in Poland [146]

Since my last post from 18 June I have tried to observe people in queues whenever I/we went shopping, usually twice a week in big shopping centres.

polishforums.com/life/poland-etiquette-store-market-queues-66617/4/#msg1377942

It is amazing but I haven`t really seen the things which have been discussed in this thread. I haven`t noticed any problems, whatsoever. People are cultural and heedful enough for me.

That is why such stories by some posters sound like a legend about iron wolf.

In Poland there are no apologies,

Bullshyt.

don't try to apologise for bumping someone else - they just look at you like you're crazy!

Another bulshyt.

Same goes for being polite to strangers - this is also classed as 'crazy' here, especially if the politeness is directed towards check-out staff when shopping.

BS.

but God forbid you should turn to your trolley/cart to pick up your next item to weigh as someone will elbow you out of the way to use the scales - yes, no exaggeration.

Of course, no exaggeration, just another piece of crap.

Why are you lying so much, that is really intriguing.

They will push small children in quite a rough manner.

Funny that I have three kids and have never had problem with taking them to crowded places.

I don't like going out in public here.

That is your main problem, I think. You suffer from some fears and obsessions, it seems you are scared of life in general, especially when you have to be among people . Why don`t you see a councellor???

Especially that your neurotic attitude seems to have passed onto your kid

My son has been in tears on many occasions for such things.

I look around and wonder, does anyone else think this is crazy stuff or just me.

I am afraid it is you who should deal with your problem.

Good that you can have a laugh about it, certainly helps!

Yes, it does. That is why, always have a good laugh before, during and after doing shopping in Poland. And don`t worry that people will consider you crazy..... :):)P

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

Poles tend to respect their dead, no matter how controvercial they were during lifetime, while Brits are able to openly celebrate sb`s death. I was really disgusted to see so many Brits enjoying the death of Margaret Thatcher. I wondered how much hatred those people had cherished in their hearts for so many years..... So sick that simply unbelievable......

s

s

When one day Poles go out into streets and have fun after general Jaruzelski`s or another controvercial figure`s death, I will treat it as a next barbaric custom wrongfully adopted from Western culture into Poland.

Oops, really? :)

PO +SLD+ PSL are going to create the government, with PiS being the only opposition party in future Sejm.

Travel / Traveling around Poland - our photo stories with very personal commentary [225]

Not yet, it is still under construction.

Let`s call the current road express way.. :):) Not bad.

Ooops, it seems I forgot to post a few important photos from Gdańsk:

Skyline views, namely. Very historical.

The first one seen from the harbour area:

Next one from a hill occupied by an old fortress or sth.

BTW, the fortress

hosts two nice museums we visited:

History of Gdańsk museum, with life size visualisations, from early alchemists:

through Napoleonic campaigns

to WW2:
Another museum is Modern Science one:
That could be all for Gdańsk.

Now I am going to develop Bieszczady Mountains but be patient because it seems we are going on another vacation trip soon.

Greetings from Dębki at the Baltic seaside. It is hot and sunny, almost cloudless. Bad luck, it is too quiet so my kids who expected fun in crashing waves are a bit disappointed. Yet, we spend 8 hours on the beach, half of which in water.

Tomorrow we are going to the mountains.........

........but not Bieszczady Mountains which we visited last year.

For the starters, a few photos with a commentary for Wrocław!

Commentary:

The road from Krakow to Bieszczady Mountains can be very changeable/varied:

  • First 100 km

  • Next 150 km

  • Last 50 km

  • And Bieszczady at last!

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Don't you think it is high time to eliminate any remaining traces of the post-communist establishment, SLD or otherwise, oldboy network collaborating with shady business and crooked Tuskite politcians?

Dear Polo, in order to truly get rid of what you are talking about Poland would have to go through a period similar to French Revolution of 1789

or Bolshevik Revolution of 1917

Bolshevik

I don`t think it could be done in a more civilised manner. :):):) Do you really want to see that in Poland of 21 century?

I don`t, for the sake of my children.

Stop cherishing romantic dreams which are beautiful, indeed: Romantic Poland.

but don`t pertain to reality/people`s expectations.

Food / What made in Poland produce would you recommend [110]

Hey, I didn`t know this one! :):)

But no, I meant this famous song from early 1980s: tekstowo.pl/piosenka,waly_jagiello_skie,do_pracy_rodacy.html

Kid shotgun, available at stalls in mountain regions, incessantly attractive to my sons.

Love / Are Polish girls better cooks? [45]

In North America it is a generic term for a sausage roughly similar to Podwawelska in Poland.

Immortalised in the cult film Miś:

Off-Topic / Loading a photo of Poland from your mobile/cell phone takes 30 seconds, come on! [86]

The window sill was covered with cork tiles. When I was putting it, I thought it was a good idea. Eventually, it wasn`t. The cork frayed and crumbled under the weight of kids` books and toys which they love to put on the sill before putting them back onto shelves.

So, today I bought a few black floor tiles and....

Travel / Rihanna complains about lack of privacy on Polish beach [150]

Performers who live and die by publicity live and die by getting their face in trashy publications and on the television - it's how they make their living.

Fully agreed, jon.

That Rihanna`s behaviour reminds me of a certain excerpt from Godfather, how a little starlet refuses to go to bed with a famous actor and singer, Johnny Fontane:

But there was something else he recognized. It had happened a few times before. The girl who went on a date with her mind all made up not to go to bed with him, no

matter how much she liked him, just so that she could tell her friends, and even more, herself, that she had turned down a chance to screw for the great Johnny Fontane. It was something he understood now that he was older and he wasn't angry.

It was something he understood now that he was older and he wasn't angry.

Additional explanation for simpletons like McDuce: Rihanna went to the beach in the Polish city of Sopot with her mind all made up not to go to bed with anybody present on that beach, no matter how much she liked them, just so she could tell her fans in other parts of the world that she was attacked by a wild crowd who desired to screw her in Poland.

People, we as humans need to finally understand that red meat and too much sodium are very bad for you.

Don`t be silly and spare yourself this cheap wisdom that everybody has known of for years.

many of them don't know how to cook anything outside of Polish food

So, what is Polish food in your opinion?

Love / Are Polish girls better cooks? [45]

As a child, about 30 years ago, I was shocked to see a scene in Three Women by Altman in which the mentioned women go shopping and buy a packet of dried onion to save themselves the labour of peeling and chopping the fresh one.

All the women in my family, starting from granny, have been able to cook excellent Polish dishes without a cookery book. The same with other women I know.

Being unable to cook makes a woman a bit lame in Poland :):):) Yes, it is still much cheaper to cook for family at home than go out.

PS. Not only cheaper but healthier too.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Latest news from Elbląg - not only did PiS finance the campaign for a new election there, but it is also coming out that PiS are attempting to go into coalition with the SLD there. So much for the 4th Republic.

I read an interesting prognosis. PiS has been putting bigger stress on social issues for some time. All their recent economic propositions (dubbed crazy by experts) are in concord with leftist party`s postulates. PiS and SLD coalition isn`t sich science fiction idea after all.
