Travel / Dinner place suggestion in Krakow [17]

Take a look at the menu and I recommend see the live music.

Every evening we have the concerts with tipical Jewish and Galician music.

And there's a great bar scene afterwards in Plac Nowa just a 4 minute walk away.

Enjoy!

Poles in the UK watch the pound plummet against the Dollar and then against the Euro.

No change against the Zloty that I see.

USD 3,1473

Real Estate / Rights To Partners Flat In Poland - Cohabiting Agreement [21]

Wide accusations of SCAM SCAM SCAM are hurtful . Why so quick to think she is trying to scam me?!

Don't take it personally this is a public forum and the main posts on this thread are a warning, looking after your interests.
Simply speaking, her name is on the deeds, you have no legal right to it whatsoever and that is the bottom line.
We don't know you or her but it would be wrong of us not to tell you that you have no rights and therefore no flat.

I know the opinions expressed can appear cutting but better that you think of the possibilities now than regret anything later. We don't know you or her and advise against the 'worst case scenario', to avoid it.

Heaven forbid anything should happen to her, if she died (sorry for the extreme example) you would be entitled to nothing, same as if you broke up or if she just didn't want to share it after all.

if her main source of income (and economic interest) is in the UK then the fact that she's a Polish national will make very little difference to the bank. She will be subject to the same checks and verifications by the bank as you would

Also a good point.

I recommend you go to mortgage broker in Poland and talk about your options, you should be able to come to an amicable agreement, easily enough.

Where are you thinking of buying?

Travel / Finding a place to stay in Krakow for a month! Couch surfing. [14]

Krakow in September.

5 months! Ah sure, you've loads of time.

Take a look at this for more info about Krakow: Travel Krakow.

Students come back to Krakow around September so try and organise something before they turn up.
It is tricky getting a place like that for just a month, maybe try: krakow.gumtree.pl. Good luck.

Real Estate / Rights To Partners Flat In Poland - Cohabiting Agreement [21]

Here in Poland, you can get 120% of the mortgage if you are in a contractual job and can prove you earn enough.
The 20% over the 100% can not be spent on furniture and finishing but must go towards, agency fees, taxes, notaries etc... (sounds silly to me too).

Is it possible to set up a legally binding co-habiting agreement in the UK which would give me entitlement to an agreed split of the property in event of sale, break up e.t.c?

My advice is buy it in your own name, there is no such right as:

As a national to Poland she has rights to purchase with a small / no deposit

.
You, as an E.U. citizen, can buy an apartment here in Poland provided you can prove you earn enough.

I would suggest both names on the notary contract with a 50 / 50 split on the ownership.

This is a compromise, sign a 50/50 ownership split with a notary here in Poland, you will need a sworn translator so you understand what exactly is going on but the notary will insist upon this.

But why bother? just buy an apartment in your own name.

Sounds like a nice little scam - get the boyfriend to pay for the flat, then bugger off back to Poland where the flat is nicely in your name and he's unlikely to succeed in obtaining anything back from you.

This could be the situation and must be avoided.

One more suggestion, if you are not planning on living here in Poland, buy to let to students, then you have some rent coming in and you have a place to stay for the summers, just a thought.

Off-Topic / CEE - Central European Empire [49]

Do you have any propositions?

Sure I do loads of'em: of, off, onto, opposite, outside, over, past, through, toward, under, up, with.

Wait... you did say prepositions, right?

Language / Ski Or Ska? - Polish surname endings [44]

If I marry a man with the -ski ending in his name, do I follow in the -ski name or do I become a -ska?

You become a ''-Ska''.

All women are ''-Ska'', all men are ''-Ski''.

Is there a difference in what happens depending on whether I live here in the states or in Poland?!

I have heard the Polish surname ''-Ska'' and ''-Ski'' being used on the opposite sex in America but it is just an Americanisation.
In Poland, on the other hand, a woman is never ''-Ski'' and a man is never ''-Ska''.

Life / I was cursing Poland daily, then returned home, but now thinking of going back.. [39]

Just make the best of where you're at

I believe this is the not-so secret philosophy for a good life.

Nietzsche

"God is dead"
Signed Nietzsche.

"Nietzsche is dead"
Signed God.

I've never really been to any countries where I wouldn't want to live for a year or so.

I have been to plenty of places I would hate living.

I broke my arm in four places and I'll never go back to those places

Work / Study in Poland to learn Polish language? [10]

I am not sure what you mean but if you mean that you do not speak Polish and wish to study in Poland? there are courses in other languages.

If you would just like to learn Polish? sure you can and I think it helps to be in the country to immerse yourself in the language.

But if you mean you don't speak Polish, want to study a subject in the Polish language and would you just pick it up handy enough? then I would recommend learning Polish to a good level beforehand.

Off-Topic / I need Polish nationals. Who wants to be a millionaire? [54]

What is this about? I read the thread but I am still at a loss.

I have PMed you WB and like I said, this site is too silly for such things in my opinion, as this thread demonstrates but it is important to bounce ideas off people, just not here.

Feedback / How to connect with who are online here ? [11]

Why would you want to know that?
If you tell me, then I can be of more help.

People also use this kind of information to spam and scam people.

I have received emails from people saying that they saw my profile on this site but I don't give out my email address on here.

You are connecting with us now.

You can also send PMs or emails if the person allows them.

There are also quite a few threads about people connecting using Skype, Nasza Klasa, facebook and probably Twitter.

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

Is it me or are people recommending you move to Germany instead of Poland, when you're being offered a job in Poland?

I'd like to know more about this.

- how about insurances, like life insurance, health insurance and so on (these are very important to me!)

ZUS is the health insurance, accident insurance and pension, all taken out of your wage.

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

Have you considered living just across the border and commuting?

Are you saying it is cheaper for him to live in Germany and commute to Poland? Really?
I thought Germany would be more expensive, unless you have family there.

Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

2100-2300 Euros

It's 3.9 to the Zloty, so 2100-2300 Euros would be 8190-8970 PLN, so yeah that's a very good wage here. The average wage is about 3500 gross or something (I don't know exactly now).

1400-1500 Euros

5460-5850 PLN is enough to live a very comfortable life but it really depends on how you use money. I know people who come out with nothing after 8000 per month but that can be said for any country.

I don't know much about Szczecin, so I am not sure if I am qualified to answer questions about it.
Doing a Polish course is a good idea anyway.

- how much would I get to keep of this after tax? My contact says it would be somewhere around 1400-1500 Euros; is that correct?

I'd have to check and I'll get back to you on this but it is about half.

Good luck on your new adventure, you probably know more than most, my advice is to go to Szczecin for a holiday and see if you like it.

And if you get to krakow you'll love it :)

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

The irony is that some maybe learning a lesson about taking even less risks when flying.

Yep

I don't know, I personally have no problem with that.

I don't mind it, it isn't my country, I just think it's over the top.
Same as all world leaders are expected to risk themselves, even if the risk is minimal, to come to see the funeral of the president not the Taoiseach.

there is a possibility. I really don't know, since it is hard to predict the reaction of others really:).

I think it will definitely get the world's attention when he dies but I am unsure how Polish people will react.

I still think that there was a tragedy, but the degree to hysteria, even tough not surprising, is quite .......I cannot even find a word to describe it.

Agreed completely.

just trying to wind yous
up a little bit ;)

You rascal :)

Roll on Monday!!

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

You don't know what went into a decision pro or against flying into Poland for the funeral. But you are welcome to make speculations, because this is what you are doing.
Vulcano ash spread to such a degree does not happen very often and if some governments decide against flying, I am really not surprised, because they are being extra careful.

Also, why should they come? why is he being buried in the Wawel?

I think Wałensa's death would warrent this response but not this, as tragic as it is.

Sorry but that is how I feel.

I can also see Austria on the map - they didn't make it.
And there are Hungary on the map - they made it.

And France, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Denmark are all North or West of Poland.

Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Morocco are all South or East of Poland.

Oh and look Iceland is in the North-West and the wind is blowing this way...

What do you think will happen when Wałensa dies? same again?
