majority wants economic liberty.but PO is least liberal party in Poland.

Mmm - no.

PIS are against same sex partners/ stem-cell research/ any form of the woman's right to Pro-Choice/ EU dictates/and many other citizens' rights I don't care to mention

My vote would seriously go - if I had one - to the president who will support a party which:

Cares about a living wage and can build a stable economy.

Everybody hates these zero-hour contract things - they are a nasty exploitation - but in the past people had several jobs - I have maybe 5 different jobs which I juggle - and in two weeks most of us lose two to three days pay because of Corpus Christi - but that's life - adapt and work around it. If you don't like zero-contract and can't make any money - then walk away.

Scrapping ZUS and replacing it by CENTRALISED index linked National insurance. Sack all the ZUS workers in every town. A sick communist era job creation scheme. It's your money being wasted.

Privatise swathes of industry that have not yet been looked at. PKP for a start, management buyout material.

Curb the unions. Transport unions in particular.

Raise NSZZ spending drastically. Close 60 per cent of hospitals - spending raised by increment from 9 per cent GDP to 13 per cent over ten years. Build new ones fit for purpose - not 5 hospitals in every small town. Build FREE day clinics (stop "doctor friendly" policy that patients must be admitted by rote to hospital beds for tests)

FREE health care to 18 years olds and help for creches -THAT is one big reason why people don't have more than one kid. The outdated idea that "the grandparents will bring up the child' is abdicating the states' responsibility to invest in it's young people.

New doctors engineers to work 4 years for the state after graduation, salary index linked to UK salaries - repayment of study fees for breaking this agreement.

Scrapping the armed forces expansion - only the bare minimum to meet NATO requirements. NO border towers or any such nonsense with the Ukraine. In fact the opposite. Raising quotas to take Ukrainian families to settle here to make a contribution to slowing the demographic time bomb.

Close the coal mines or sell them off so NO state involvement.

Flatten half of "historical Silesia" and it's "infrastructure" and remodel - as country park if there is no use. It was countryside before the Industrial Revolution.........

Raise the Tax threshold to 2000 ZL

Amnesty for all pre-1989 financial crime. Not murder. No expensive court cases for nothing with OUR tax money.

Tentatively -taxes 19 per cent/ 30 per cent at 10,000 month plus/ 40 at 20,000. Keep VAT. Tax fast cars. Ban speeding drivers outright. Raise the alchohol level for drivers to German levels. Raise penalties yet further for non-conforming.

Remove police powers (innocent until proven guilty as in US/UK)

Two social security systems for Poland A and B - with relocation expenses for those who realise that life in the small Eastern town is not challenging for them. As a consequence, build 2/3 new towns in western Poland Telford style.

Rescind the ridiculous abortion laws and tell the church to stay in barracks. Ally to the EU, and not to America. PIS famously want to be part of the United States of America, when they wouldn't (and didn't) **** on her (Poland) if she was on fire. See the drunken Sikorski tapes. He is bang on in this respect.

Last and not least, dig up the dead general and feed his body to the rats. Here, and only here, I do agree with PIS :)

And another thing.

Now I have to **** about, going to the supermarket because of some antiquated church holiday tomorrow. At least there is vague hope that somebody in Platforma will realise one day that all these church holidays are bankrupting the state. They certainly are ******* with my capacity to earn.

So there we have it. Tomorrow there is a clear choice. A simple choice between continued modernisation, and continued economic growth, and a lessening of the churches' role - or if you want to make things worse, the opposite of that.

Of course the president is only a titular role - and nobody really seems to care - but a PIS president will send the wrong message, and are the bad side of Polish society as far as liberal Europe is concerned, and I count myself as one of those Europeans.

And the great danger of a PIS president would be all the rhetoric and brain-washing for a "Brave New World" of a PIS victory in November - in which case an even greater number of young graduates will leave.

you don't understand politics in Poland

I think I understand politics here only too well thank you Wulkan.

PIS have socialist policies. It is you that don't understand the concept of socialism. Call it Prawo i Sprawiedliwość or whatever - what's in a name? People read "Law and order" and read "Conservative" with a capital C. PIS is not conservative. You can see what PIS would have had happen if you visit Myslowice or Siemanowice in Silesia. These are two ghost towns that have refused or been denied investment from without (the second named from a German conglomerate. These two towns are now a big slag heap. Thanks to socialist policies of "Poland first." It's a joke, and a bad one. Call them conservative policies if you like Wulkan - but others know better. There is only the one party that gets things done, whilst PIS are burbling on like imbeciles about some Russian secret weapon that brings down jetliners, and that is PO, the liberal-conservative party for business - which is what Poland needs and has to have if we are all going to have work, and get paid for it.

When I lived in the UK, I voted for a minimum wage, and for heavy industry subsidies, and for a raising on the ceiling on untaxable income, for 50 per cent tax for the wealthy, and for increased investment in the health service, and for maintaining public services, and for student fees to remain free, and for the rising of pensions, and for investment in the railways.

All of the above are socialist policies, if I really need to spell it out to you. They are Duda's policies.

I happened to think that the UK in 1992 could afford them.

In 2015 Poland can't afford the above policies (though i strongly agree with the raising of the minimum wage). Now, what do you struggle with understanding?

Who told you PiS are socialist? You seem to be confused, frankly.

No - lived here for 23 years and been actively involved in the community in Silesia and in local politics.
PIS are for state interference, handouts, and subsidy. That's called socialism. PO are for the opposite.

Simples really innit.

KIDS GO HUNGRY,CORRUPTION MILIONS POLES CLEANING TOILETS IN THE UK AND THOSE IDIOTS TALKS ABOUT JEDWABNE...
WHO FOKIN RUNS THIS CIRCUS???/

Couldn't agree more Gregy - and whether we like it or not, PO are the only party with experience and who can be trusted with the economy.

If you have an ounce of humanity in you - then in Britain vote Labour.
In Poland though we can't afford a socialist government - and that's what PIS are. They are the party that bang on about Katyn and other "essential historical events" 70 years after the event although that will not provide a stronger economy.

And for all those people that are in Poland B, and whinging about their lot, why don't they get on their bikes? I was stopped by a 25 year old in Zakopane while cycling, and he asked me for a handout. I was twice his age at the time and asked him why he didn't get down to Nowy Targ and present himself at the factories. He said he didn't have the bus fare, but he had a bike for chrissakes.

PIS would give him that handout.

25 years of an imitation of a true market economy. Held back by PIS and Solidarnosc and all the rest of the socialists.
Of course Balcerowicz did the right thing. Poland had no capital funds. He kickstarted the economy. You PIS "patriots" would have everybody eating tasteless Polish "cream" cake, but no bread.

******* mad. You have no respect for your country if you vote for a gang who want to **** with the economy. I am but a poor boy, and can't afford to be ****** by PIS. As before, I wont believe that Poles will be so dumb as to vote for this gang of puerile populists. it's like 2005 all over again. Then we had the EU accession to lift us out of PIS's mismanagement. This time we will be ****** big time if Duda inspires a change in government in autumn. All who hate communism should hate all that PIS stand for - they stand for state interference, and hindrance, and taxation, and bureacracy, and populism, and xenophobia, and no change (never mind what they tell you - they are socialist hand out merchants who NEVER change) and they are hard on law and order - which translates that you will never be safe from their police, their extra spending on the "great" Poland - when now Europe is one unified mass, and there is no greater Germany, or greater Serbia - whatever Crow might think.

Really mad. Come on - wake up people.

And do your research Polonious. In Petroleum engineering and fish farming, to name but two professions, Polish engineers lead the world. And from small acorns big trees grow. Given a true market economy of course. Poland is too poor for a socialist joker outfit like PIS who are unfit to govern,

Poland A says so. Poland B can go **** themselves. They are not going to ruin my businesses.

Certainly not: 'Polska B' has the best hops, some of the best beer and a lot of the best holiday destinations, to say nothing of the finest fillies. When they offer all of that, giving them to right to unceasingly vote for utter morons is a small price to pay.

I knew about the Bug - but didn't know about the fillies. Back in the English Midlands I met only heifers :) Polska B must be well made up.

Maybe Poland should split. The Eastern half can have their socialist government and total economic ruin, and we can have ours. Good idea?

However I am confident that the Polish electorate do have brains in their heads, as shown by every Voivodeship west of Warsaw, and do the right thing. I still think Harry will not have to contribute to charity this week.

News / Magdalena Ogórek - a new hope for Poland? [11]

Far too young for a presidential candidate.

This. She could try modelling? I liked that sports minister too but her charms were distracting as well:)
I presume the cucumber is smart as well as easy on the eye? She shouldn't have embarrassed herself by putting herself forward in such a trite manner. But then again, SLD are 99.9 per cent ugly people, inside and out, and were obviously dim enough to think a pretty face would win them votes.

Give it up Polonious. Did you see the debate? Your man is a tool - and that when in comparison to the charisma lacking Komorowski is REALLY saying something.

If Polish bookmakers gave odds on the election they would lose millions. Komorowski is a cert, a shoe-in. You PIS people are wasting your time even voting - but I guess church, then voting, will fill your Sunday?

Not meaning to be rude - it sounds like a nice day - your country, your church, your vote - but I don't like to see you wasting your time though on the third. Show me the odds and where to back the PO bloke and I would sell my businesses to the bank then buy back and more :)

Life / Why are Polish so conservative and religious? [240]

Sorry but you are rambling. I referred to the rights of the modern woman/family - who find they have made a genuine, though regrettable mistake. How is that the lawful right of anybody else?

Until the catholic church gets the **** out of politics I would never countenance giving thanks to God in one of those edifices that you call "church."

Yes Polonious - you are right. We don't like it. Even that "pop star" is against the freedom for a woman to be Pro-choice over her own body.

In 2015 it is disgusting.

The foreign-owned banks and retail chains that are not paying their fair share of taxes and funneling most of their profits to their head offices abroad

Please do not be naive Polonious. It's called business - something that Poland had precious little of when I first visited these shores in 1985. And every country has corporations who do this, whether they be Amazon or the "coffee" chain giants.

PIS would rather still have us all shopping at Spoolem and banking with those PKO crooks. Myself I prefer freedom of choice.

It's a good thing Poland doesn't let expats make the rules. It's surpising that Poland even tolerates know-all expats whose main hobby is defining what Polishness is all about, telling Poles what they should do and, even more so -- Pole-bashing in every size, shape and form.

Utter nonsense - I may not have a vote, but after paying tax and ZUS for 23 years, and contributing to GDP, I for one am well entitled to comment - rather more so than some Plastic Pole in Chicago who votes for PIS, but has never visited his aged grandmother in Solina.Although as Jon says, these votes shouldn't affect the result, the principle is populist as per the Polish way, and should not be allowed to stand.

especially the huge ZUS every month, regardless of profit

Don't pay it Wroc. I don't :)

Komorowski IN.

I grew up in an English midlands town surrounded by Poles, and with a Polish "uncle" close friend of the family.
Not one of them gave a stuff for Poland, and would steer the conversation away from the "homeland" asap. Some of them were extremely relunctant to take the 24 hour bus back to visit for funerals and the like. Polonia was largely a fiction in my neck of the woods.

None of them should have the vote as they don't appreciate the low wage economy and the struggles we have here - that PIS would love to exacerbate with their endless gerrymandering, xenophobia, court cases, backhanders, nepotism, and total lack of economic management.

And why are PIS always referred to as conservative? They are socialists with a nasty S, handing out freebies to their cronies and endeavouring to steal from those of us who aren't afraid to get up in the morning and graft.

For once, words fail.

Love / Polish girlfriend told me we cant have sex because I'm not religious [40]

Then play the white man and walk the walk. She's village Poland, and you are a very naughty boy.

Seriously though mate, you are on a sticky wicket, batting on the last day, the wrist sinners are giving you a tester, and you are clearly 7 wickets down by lunch.

You are done, because she knows there is no chance of a return series in Asia, so it's a case of a maiden over.

Not meant to be racist - just one cricket lover to another, assuming you like the game. Go and find a flatter batting wicket.

Please use standard English

Jon - I might take issue with you on that. The markets at the time liked the ex- communist sports minister. He of the lying curriculum vitae :)

Also I think Cimoszewicz was an intelligent fellow -but of course his lack of memory re: Orlen share dealing excludes him.

A president has to have some charisma, and my dog would be a better candidate than the village bumbkin Komorowski.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

i think that today`s Poland wasn`t ready for Noble President such was Lech Kaczynski

Have you heard the saying, and I misquote, ' Every country gets the leader they deserve'?

Not true in this case, because Poles aren't all idiots. Only those who voted for a non-statesman and national embarrassment. Do you actually live here Crow or know anything of the harm this man did to Poland's standing on the world stage?

Travel / New rule if you board a train without a ticket in Poland [24]

It refers to Przewozy Regionalne trains only, not other railway companies, like PKP Intercity.

It's PR which are the problem. They are pretty much a scum outfit. 8 zl for a ticket is exorbitant if you want a 6 zl 50 ticket. Plus dog, in a rush, with no SKM available, that comes to 21 zl Gdansk to Gdynia. Outrageous.

At least the SKM now use the online Skycash system of being able to buy a ticket on your mobile phone app.

If he's as much a git as the poster suggests, I'd suspect he'd have plenty to say

Stay away from Zakopane. Not only is it ***** - but there are mobs of the Tommy Hilfiger brigade at May weekend. And Slowakia is closed. Meaning - the trails open only on June15th. Some nonsense about the environment I believe - ignorance more like.....

Feedback / Is the Administrator of the P.F. a Native Pole ? [80]

"Poland are stupids because they are catholics"

LOL People are tedious when they wear their heart out on their sleeves, whether they be catholics, protestants, Smiths devotees, PIS supporters, Born again christians, Chelsea supporters etc etc.....

So, yes, anybody, and that includes Poles, who bang on about their catholicism is to be pitied.

This forum is cliquy, dominated by one quite agressive group - this isn't very inviting

If you are alluding to the likes of Harry et al that is palpable nonsense. Nobody is being aggressive Paulina, apart from the racist cliquely posters of Polish blood here, who routinely complain about the wrongs that the muslim world has wrought upon them - posters who have never worked with a muslim, let alone had a drink with them - and yes, a lot of them do drink :)

You might consider, since you are proficient in English yourself, that English is by definition a language of debate, where straight talking has its' place. With such a large corpus of language there is simply no need for the "flowery" discussion that often constitutes a Polish forum of this kind - there is nothing overtly "aggresssive" here - just opinion.

And as I oft said, aka Agnieszka Holland, Poland ain't so bloody perfect that a little critical comment doesn't go amiss from time to time. Positive criticism too off course!
