Life / Famous Polish music and musicians [48]

It's ridiculous that nobody has mentioned the two greatest Polish musical performers of the 20th century.

I was of course referring to Ryszard Reidel and Józef Skrzek of SBB.
:)
Here's some more:) Nobody like Tadeusz Nalepa

youtube.com/watch?v=fvryepuTsJM

I for one don't care for Polish classical music, having been forced to listen to Chopin as a child and also to try to play it and failing hopelessy. Lol. Very long fingers needed.

Money spent on paper defences is money wasted, just like in the '30s. Totally and utterly pointless. The Polish armed forces are a token force to satisfy NATO, exactly as the German "army" is. And rightly so. Leave the real fighting to the redneck Yanks.

In the meantime, areas like Silesia are the land that time criminally forgot and the nations' hope, it's children, are neglected.

Nationalist right-wingers with hopeless and populist socialist economic policies are really and truly the scum of the civilised world. Germany had one of those systems in the last century...............

First and foremost, Poland needs a blitzing and remodelling of it's inner cities. Only market forces can provide for that in such a relatively poor country.

buzek virtually left Poland on knees and in sh.thole...right into eu top position.

You really are a clown. Up to that point Buzek was the best prime minister Poland had had since the war. Now go back to school and learn to read your political history - and I don't mean Gazeta Polska. And yes , I was here. And unlike you, I have an education.

PIS had almost 7% grow with little funding from EU.

You understand nothing about what the EU brought to Poland. How old are you? 100? Are you an ex commie? It was clear to the markets as early as 1998 that Poland was a shoe-in for EU expansion.

Get down on your knees and worship Brussels. Without them you would still be wiping your arse with sandpaper. Were you here in communism? I sure as **** was. Now grow up boy.

Glad to see I made my point about Poland (finally) looking at what their German neighbours do right and learning from it. Kaczynski can do one.

You know it makes sense :)

Why is a Corporate Poland not being built

It will be. It will be delayed by a further 5 years or longer, due to the damage they can cause, with a leftist government of course.

How was Poland to build anything in 1989 without real capital, in the face of a supposed 30 billion IMF debt, not to mention 40 years of centralised state monopoly, far removed from market forces, just as those socially revealing TV series of the 70s like "Czterdziestolatek" portray?

It takes time to build. Polish companies are already big in land reclamation, in foodstuffs, and fish farming......
And time is a great healer, as PG Wodehouse would say, albeit referencing affairs of the heart. But there lies the problem Polonious. You are too romantic about life - that era of the "glorious hussar" is long gone.

Your grandparents would kick you up the arse Wulkan. They never had the vote, and yet you would waste it on that second rate singer. You couldn't make it up.

Luckily there are plenty of Poles who respect democracy and now that it is simply a straight choice between a coalition allied to market forces, with real and proven economic success, and a leftist hegemony with petty nationalist ideals and no concept of economic housekeeping whatsoever.

And you want to throw a spanner into the works for that time waster? Go ahead, but why not vote for the PIS mob instead and be done with it? .

never seen the shops as busy as this on a Sat afternoon and into early evening as I did yesterday (Sat 30 May)

Because people are buying summer stuff? What does this have to do with a PIS president winning? Certainly there is not a feel good factor either here in Trojmiasto or my base of Katowice.

The youngsters here can talk all they want about populism and their sad catholic "utopia". Obviously they have no clue about what a stable economy is, or how to achieve it. I am still hoping against hope that Poles west of Radom do not want a socialist government in October.

PiS is nothing comparing to PO in terms of destroying Polish economy.

But that is patently not true Wulkan. One party is liberal-conservative pro-Europe and the other has always been anti-corporation and employing the agenda of xenophobia, maybe more through words than deeds, but generally anybody who has ever sold even an apple will tell you that PIS is bad for business.

They are definitely bad for me as I import dry goods and I could spell out the ways in which a PIS administration makes things more complicated, but I will leave that to the brains.

PiS aren't socialists, you're reading propaganda stuff and believing it. They'll also sort out the drop off in law and order I hope, things deteriorating where as I am for some time, plain to see (PO city).

Were you here in 2005?

Socialists - interfering and legislating businesses.

Ask any businessman. Any at all in fact.

ust my tuppence or grosz worth which I hope's reassuring ... business enquiries (not orders yet but enquiries) have picked up by something like 20% since the weekend compared to a month or so ago when it was looking pretty quiet and I was wondering about clipping coupons ;)

Not reassured eh?

Every single person working for themselves that I speak to in Pomorskie - and that is at leat 40 different faces since Sunday - some bigger than others - are all absolutely appalled at the turn of events.

And not only for themselves either. But the power to attract business if PIS win in October.

This is serious stuff and as Komorowski said, you have to think what kind of country you want.

It's not my country but I have made a contribution over the last 23 years and I would not tolerate another PIS socialistgovernment at this moment in time. I would take my tax payments and know-how to another more tolerant country. Research starts definitely now to be forearmed..

absolutely! Poland cannot do without EU's money... The president-elect and those around him know it.

Poles would still be bumbling around like headless chickens without the billions of zlotys of EU money. ALL infrastructure that you use day to day is 66 % EU money. Poles would be stuck all day on unfinished one lane "highways" if it weren't for the EU.

No wonder in 1919 a group of British bureaucrats were on record as saying (sic) "NO, don't give the Poles their Sovereignty - They are difficult and obtuse and will cause problems" - ergo everything in the garden was roses with PO - but no, some Poles expect to be handed things on a plate.

Poland B goes and causes problems by expecting hand outs. Just like in communism. Y
You've never had it so good - to quote McMillan - and you're still biatching.

Laughable.

Er - just rea.d your post properly LOL - yes - I agree with you! The post still stands for those PIS clowns who don't bow to Brussels and give thanks to the virgin Mary for their deliverance from 30 billion dollars worth of IMF debt

Hats off to you Harry for your generosity. The markets are spooked because PIS would be just as generous (with our money) with their laughable 500 zl for each child "promise."

Simpler and cheaper just to make child health care free until the age of 18.

Duda seems quite independent person. .in fact he just suspended his PIS membership.

Cough - every Polish president has to do that as a matter of course/courtesy to "be the president for all."

Of course, with a PIS president we see his true colours. Although Komorowski is still the president until August, we have Duda buggering off to Czestochowa to genefluct before the Black Madonna etc, instead of going to Warsaw/the Stock Exchange and bowing down before them, and reassuring the markets that it's business as usual..

Result?

We have a run on the zloty. You couldn't make it up.

It's not pro choice, it's not a thing like buying a new iPad next week or next month in silver or in black.

I will remind you eh? that I was referring to IVF as I stated. Thanks.

Better dead than red.

Er - nobody in my Polish family ever voted for Kwasniewski or that scum Miller, or any SLD, ever. I don't put Cimoszewicz in the same category though, even if his father was a nasty piece of work.

Half the people in the Solidarity televised debates were ex party, Geremek et al, that Jewish gentleman who walked out on Walesa, etc, and you have to be selective.

For instance - why do people suffer Ryszard Kalisz? The fact that by all accounts he is great to work for is surely by and by....?

That's the trouble with PIS - nothing was ever objective. And back in 2005 IT ALL covered their lack of sensible economic policies.

Sorry to go off topic but if thats a ref to abortion, it's definitely wrong.

Let's not go there - but only to say, where do you think Polish girls go for abortions then?
The fairy? Does the girl in question happily text her friends "I'm off to Holland on the bus to get a nice abortion - oh goody!?"

Lodz harped on about morality. What he meant to say was "catholic middle-ages morality."

It's Pro-choice or Pro-life, and 18-30 year olds in western Poland would vote for the first - I will happily wager you that.

Anyway I was really referring to IVF.....

Duda is a wrong 'un and only lawyers and those with no college education voted for him is my guess.

first official visit,Duda laid flowers on Pilecki (who was murdered by Komorowskis friends)and UB victims commemorating place,today...strong message..he said, his remains will be found

This is great news Gregy!!

Already the PIS machine is in full swing. The more this nationalist and racist homophobe - who couldn't even look the camera in the eye on the presidential debates - does of this type of thing the better!

Kwach and Cimoszewicz

I think you will find that PIS do not have any politicians with the experience of those two. I seem to recall they were both in their own ways accepted by the financial markets as knowing what they were doing (even if the latter was only foreign minister).

PIS had no such respect when they had a go at it.

moral and social values

You mean the moral values that would deny a woman the right to her own body with the help of 21st century science? And dictate to others how they should live their lives in the face of liberalisation and those countries moving with the times throughout the rest of Europe?

Most western Poles want that very life, as we can see from the ballot box.

Those in the east of course are free to live how the hell they like. They can choke on the sacrament for all I care.

Or social values that give PIS the right to harass it's citizens going about their lawful business as the PIS government so did in 2005 and 2006?

Do us a favour :) You were not here and don't know what you are talking about.

PO has done nothing tangible if anything at all to help.

I know! All you can do is minimise your tax liabilities by cutting fat. That's why I put my businesses in my wife's name and stopped paying ZUS. Now I work for her. It's completely ridiculous that a man and wife, running the same S.C. are liable for 1,400 zl a month EACH at the last count in ZUS payments alone.

But PIS will/would actually make the situation worse. For a start they would drive away inward investment by their myth that big corporations have somehow robbed Poland of it's post communist "wealth." Then we will have PIS sponsored repeated petty "visits" from the tax office (as if employing people wasn't hard enough) which miraculously disappeared when PO took over in 2007.

I swear I will set the dog on them if those snoopers come on my property.

Scoff away eh? :) I wish I was on another planet, smoking, or drinking champagne this morning. But everywhere in Poland today, tiny little outfits like mine, and much bigger ones, are despairing of how short-sighted people are.

Its no use arguing whether the party is left or right wing.

It depends on how you define the left-right politics
There is some difference between Western European and American ways.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left%E2%80%93right_politics

PiS are well to the left of PO in terms of social welfare and re-distributing wealth. They exist to tax business. So if that is not left wing, I am at a loss to understand what is. And everything else follows from the state of the economy.

If they have to play their tax games, they could start by taxing the coal industry for it's environmental blight, and legislate to restore such areas to their original state.

They are only right-wing in the sense that they wish to curtail the freedoms of those who live and work in Poland, and would like to waste our taxes on pointless militarisation for one.

Well - I've been to 4 offices of private businesses here in Tri-City this morning and people are depressed and in shock.

We can but hope that the parliament doesn't swing the same way to the left. It's ridiculous that the east of Poland should dictate anti-federalist policies and ultra-conservative catholic "values" to the rest of us. I very much fear that Duda will beam and pontificate, and make ridiculous promises, at the expense of the rest of us, targeted at the young - who have no concept of the pigs ear that the Kaczynskis made of the job last time they were allowed to run riot with their puerile witch-hunts.

Everybody is seen as potentially corrupt when PIS are in power and it's one long list of investigations and petty bureaucracy.

FFS don't let them back in, or the business community, that can do so, will flee.

But Poland is a true democracy and the will of the Polish people has been expressed at the ballot box.

What are you talking about? The left wing party won. The party that is interventionist in the economy. But i guess you are too young to understand that.

Most immigrants come to Poland just to earn some bucks and send it to their families in their homeland.

Of course. I have a mother, 6 brothers, and 5 sisters back in the UK to support. And a pack of hounds. Anyway, there would be no money to spare - if Duda were to win, it's off to the pub for three days to mourn for the old Poland, gone to the dogs.
