News / PiS wants symmetry for minorites living in Poland [71]

It was for sure not founded because Poles are forbidden to speak Polish with their children.

That case has been discussed on PF before. The whole point is that Wojciech Pomorski insists to speak Polish while Hamburg argues that - given the large number of different nationalities in the city - it is impossible to provide a Polish speaking case worker just for him to supervise the visit with his children. The claim of "discrimination against Poles" is the typical BS that one can expect from the Polish mass media, especially since the guy speaks fluent German and could easily meet with his kids.

EDIT:
Thanks for providing the link, Malopolanin

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

I;m not denying climate change, I am merely stating that there is no good proof CO2 levels are contributing to this

Climate change caused by humans: true or false - does it really matter? If you look at the pollution levels all around the world it seems obvious to me that we need to start changing our habits soon. Otherwise we will kill the planet. Especially if China and India continue to develop at a fast pace while repeating all the mistakes the west made in the past.

USA, Canada / What US National Parks are worth visiting most? [11]

Which ones were most breath-taking and you advise to visit.

If your time is limited, stick to the Lower 48 west coast. From North to South:

Olympic National Park
Mt. St. Helens
Columbia River Gorge
Crater Lake
Redwoods National Park
San Francisco
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Big Sur
Death Valley
Disneyland/ California Adventure in Anaheim

And of course, a million other breathtaking places around the USA.

News / Are Poles good enough for USA (to go there without a visa)? [288]

what I am really complaining about is the 1929 anti-immigration act, that there was never an apology for.

Geeze, that was almost 85 years ago, and you still want an apology? You weren't even born then, so why are you so obsessed with this old crap?

News / Poland: The poor get poorer - and next year will be worse [40]

...singling out one community from all the belief systems out there is discriminatory and bigoted.

As I said before: I'm not talking about individual believers, I'm pointing the finger at the bureaucracy of the church which is represented by the pope and his minions. I don't see how it can be discriminatory to call a pedophile and the organization that covers his ass criminal.

Catholic bashing with no other issues addressed

That was only a reaction to Ironside's silly remark to show respect for the RCC.

What measures do you think Poland should implement to eliminate poverty?

Create jobs, what else? Give people a reason to stay in the country.

News / Poland: The poor get poorer - and next year will be worse [40]

obvious contractions in your post

There is none. The pedophiles within the church were covered by the highest ranks in the hierarchy; including but not limited to the popes.

Calling the RCC cult has nothing to do with alleged crimes, institution or the Pope.

I don't care what you call that institution. The only thing that counts is that the organization protected its criminal members.

alleged crimes

It is plain and clear indication that you do not respect anybody

I do not respect f*cking pedophiles. Do you? It certainly looks like.

the RCC is not a cookie monster nor monolith! There is majority of respectable and herd working people who do not deserve spite of some ignorant riff-rafts!Every person deserve respect unless committed bad deeds!

I was talking about the RCC as an institution, not about individuals. If the highest ranks of the church (including the last and the present pope) cover up hideous crimes within the organization, then they don't deserve respect at all. It's not about the Christian faith here, but about the "cult" that calls itself the Roman Catholic Church.

News / Are Poles good enough for USA (to go there without a visa)? [288]

And the Germans are "anti-Polish" pagans anymore... they converted to catholic! (even though that is worse)

The catholic church in Germany has a much longer history than the Polish one. Following your argument, the Poles were the savages who got baptized in 966... :)

History / Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime against Poland [97]

How do these events sit with you, being half Polish and half German (an honest question)?

Sorry, I don't have much time to answer because I'm leaving for a business trip tomorrow. So just quickly: I don't believe that my heritage has anything to do with how I (should) see the events of WW2. I'm an Australian who has lived in many different countries over the years, and the only affiliation I have with Poland or Germany is that my ancestors came from there. Heck, I've even lost connection to Oz and I'm not sure anymore what I really am. Aussie, American, German, Dutch, Pole ... does it matter? My parents had a long and happy marriage; they are the best example for me that the past is not really that important and that people can get along even though others expect them to be enemies.

actually Hitler killed more... he's on the list right after Mao Ze Dong

I wonder where the British are on this list. Mass killings in Australia come to mind, or the Indian Mutiny of 1857 which cost about 10 million lifes according to some sources.

History / Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime against Poland [97]

the Poles were stationed in town so you could understand what the war was for

Well, why didn't the UK and France declare war on the USSR, too, if their motives were so noble? I for one believe that the UK and France only declared war on Germany because they wanted to avoid a reversal of the Treaty of Versailles under all circumstances; thus keeping a potential global competitor at bay. Fighting for freedom and democracy, fighting for Poland? Don't think so...

Genealogy / Regarding WW1 records - how do I get them? [11]

he was indeed polish citizen

Not when he was born. If you want to find out more about your ancestor, you need to look at the historical context.

EDIT:
Just saw that you posted your question before. Why don't you stay in the old thread, dude?

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

so why you argue then?

I didn't argue, I was taking the p*ss out of you.

Does this mean that eastern part of Germany (GDR) is Eastern Europe for Western Europe?

I don't know what Europeans think about East Germans in particular (it's a broader brush East Europeans are usually painted with), but I know that many people in the old West Germany see their ex GDR brethren as some sort of uncivilized, naive commies (Ossis). Yes, it's in their heads; and it's a remnant of Cold War times as I've said earlier.

Unfortunately, you people are confusing geography with CULTURE.

Nope. Anyone who has lived in Europe for an extended period of time knows that many West Europeans look down on their Eastern counterparts as some sort of poor cousins from beyond the (geographically and ideologically defined) Iron Courtain. Don't forget that most people who grew up in the 1950's - 1980's were tought at school that everyone in the East Bloc was their enemy. Should get better over time.

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

Nice try. Now you prove that the CIA can be more trusted than the UN... ;)

To be honest: I couldn't care less whether Poland is Central or Eastern Europe. Every time this topic comes up I wonder why it is so important for some Poles that they "officially" belong to the west. Inferiority complex, or what? The perception in Western Europe that Poland is part of the East will not change as long as people are alive who can remember the Wall. That's a relic of the Cold War era, I'm afraid.

According to the Central Intelligence Agency Poland is in Central Europe

Doesn't prove anything. According to the United Nations geoscheme it's Eastern Europe:

There you have it...
