UK, Ireland / The Daily Mail - coverage of the Polish people [161]

Sounds to me exactly like the average Polish person talks about them. Well, what goes around comes around, I guess. What I read on this forum often resembles the way the Daily Mail writes about the Polish. I guess they shouldn't complain then.

Honestly do you live here in Poland?
Or are you judging Poles by the prepubescent troglodytes living in their parents basement in other countries that troll this site?

Wait, wait: do you also happen to eat swans, given the chance?

I haven't yet but I see no reason not to.
But apparently they taste of fish and you have to feed the signet oats to make them taste nice.
Swans, genus Cygnus, are birds of the family Anatidae, which also includes geese and ducks.

So if a cow put on some make-up and wore a nice dress it would cease to be ugly and you wouldn't eat it?

Traditionally, the Monarch of the United Kingdom owns all unmarked mute swans on the River Thames. This dates from the 12th century, during which swans were a common food source for royalty.

The Daily Mail is a rag mag that comes up with rubbish and blames immigrants.

Swan is a delicacy.
What does beauty have to do with it? using that logic, if a cow was more beautiful it would cease to be eaten :)

How is Cieszyń, does anybody know?

You can check out different regions in Poland on Gazeta Wyborcza and Bielsko-Biala (near Cieszyń) seems to be in a bad state but no longer flooded. The south of Poland is no longer flooded.

Life / Polish and Slavic Art [48]

According to this site ... work below isnt by Walkulski but

This is strange because I just checked and this work below is isn't by Sadowski but by Wiktor Sadowski: according to [walkuski.link2.pl/poster1.html].

So there seems to be some confusion between these two artists, still though they are really great, top notch.
If we had avatars, I would use the boy with the bum for a face :)

Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

This doesn't make any sense, you are travelling from Stuttgart to Gdansk but you can only go 30KM?
I think you need to tell us your starting point or something.

Law / EU citizen residency certificate to live in Poland [34]

- SeanBM, how can you live without a PESEL?It makes things so much easier.

Very easily, I don't need it.
Apparently I don't even need it to vote but I don't vote here anyway.
I use my passport or driving licence as my I.D.
the only time I have ever needed it was for some outdated computer systems that will not process your application without one, this is easy to get around as you can just make one up on the spot.

It really doesn't effect me at all and I have been living here for years.

What do you need a PESEL for?

Can you actually benefit from Polish social security and medical care if you don't have a PESEL?

I pay ZUS, the PESEL number does not entitle you to social security, medical care and accident insurance, ZUS does.

Life / Poland's population predictions [59]

Brits?: 0.00

Germans (not those that have been here since WWII)?: 0.00

Irish?: 1.00 :)

Americans?: 0.00

Australians?: 0.00

And any other nationality you can think of: 0.00

Unless this is some kind of law of averages prediction table, it is pointless, as for someone to give you even a guess for the whole of Poland, they would have to know all of Poland or at least every major city.

There was something on TVN News about folks shooting beaver.

Ah, I really thought you were using a metaphor.

Glad to hear it's going down.

Perhaps you could tell us what you're talking about?

Real Estate / PLN 2,500 the going rate for an apartment in Poland [210]

SeanBM:
It depends where but in city centres, no not yet.

what about buying a bit of land and build a house? not in the city center of course...

It takes forever and a day, I know it is popular here in Poland but so is living in a house with only three rooms partially finished for the same reason.

I would recommend taking a look at where the EU funded infrastructure is going and using your local knowledge to buy appropriately.

SeanBM:
it would be better if you gave it to a reputable company to let it out and look after it, on your behalf.

how much do they take? i would worry that my apartment gets ruined...

It is negotiable, many charge 10% per year.
Tenants will never treat a property as well as their own and that is why I stress a reputable company to look after it, they have the deposit for such eventualities.

Excuse the late reply.

Real Estate / PLN 2,500 the going rate for an apartment in Poland [210]

would any of you living abroad recommend buying an apartment in Poland, rent it out and try to manage it from across the ocean...?

It depends where but in city centres, no not yet.

Also, it would be better if you gave it to a reputable company to let it out and look after it, on your behalf.

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

So do all the Poles in virtually every town all over Poland doing something similar also sell drugs or are you saying that they have to be black to enter in to that particular profession?

Real Estate / Making an offer for Polish houses [30]

What would you consider to be the amount wanted compared to the amount asked for houses in Poland?

I am having difficulty understanding your point, here you quite openly ask what would the seller want for the house.

buyer setting the market value

While here you say that it is you, the buyer that sets the price.

Perhaps you could clarify your point?

And as for the "greedy Polish" that many have been talking about, as it seems that you are all from, Ireland, U.S.A, England and Australia, I wouldn't go around putting other nations down until you have looked to your very own people. As the property bubbles in your countries were not created by the greed of Polish people.

And finally, to answer the OP's question:

For example would an offer of 75% of the asking price be reasonable or an insult?

It will do no harm to offer 75%, this is business, the worst that can happen is the person says ''NO'', then you can offer more, if you want.

I doubt that you will get 25% discounted unless, as Avalon has said, the person is desperate for money.

Another aspect that people are not looking at is where the person shot was from, of the fifty four countries in Africa he came from Nigeria.

Oil War - Nigeria 2005
youtube.com/watch?v=zalqYjcjA2Y

/wiki/Philip_Watts#Nigeria
/wiki/Royal_Dutch_Shell#Human_rights_concerns

Bottom line: Shell arms and pays the military/government to suppress and even kill the local population for profit. 50% of the oil industry in Nigeria is Shell's and this has been going on for decades.

I am not excusing the man from trying to get a policeman's gun here in Poland and he paid the price for that with his life.

I am saying that desperately poor uneducated people from war torn countries are more likely to commit crime, it is not because they are African or black as some of the people here would have you believe, scratch the surface and you will find answers.

Real Estate / Making an offer for Polish houses [30]

I would offer 60% of the asking price and walk away, the owner will soon ring you , patience is a virtue more so in real estate.

Is that what you do in Australia?
2010 Midst of an unsustainable bubble - 50pc overvalued?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_property_bubble#2010_Midst_of_an_unsustainable_bubble_-_50pc_overvalued.3F

I would offer him 50 % and wait and if no reply wait a bit longer and if no reply wait a bit longer and hopefully by then he would be delighted with the 50% maybe even 30%.

Is that what you do in Ireland?

By June 2009, it was reported that around 40% of the price escalation that had occurred during the property boom years ("Celtic Tiger Part 2") of 2001-2007 had been lost

independent.co.uk/news/science/fury-at-dna-pioneers-theory-africans-are-less-intelligent-than-westerners-394898.html
again

Ah, I remember this, this is just history repeating itself.

Most of the people on here who are racist actually hate poor uneducated people, from war torn countries and since many are from Africa they make the false presumption that the two are connected.

The exact same criteria was used on Irish people when we were forced to leave Ireland in the millions due to desperation and

irish and Africans

This is just the start of this debate, so if anyone is interested in what I am on about I am more than happy to continue.

I would look to your own people's history before pointing fingers because I bet that at some point your people were driven, out of desperation, to do unspeakable things.

get credit

What does it do for you to enable you to get credit?
I don't understand this, surely it is up to the bank if they give you credit based on income or something else not this document? and if you are an E.U. citizen you can get credit here with out this EU citizen residency certificate(non-E.U. credits don't concern me).

Life / Apple v IBM computers in Poland [37]

IBM computer is any desktop pc out there beside Apple,

Ah I understand now, so if it's an IBM when it's beside an apple, what is it when it's beside a banana?

IBM released the architecture prints for free for everyone hence making IT powerful as it is now. Lucky us ; )

I have not received any architectural prints from any fruits or fruit related products.

Apple is for snobs...no practical need at all! Just a matter of fashion taste...

I don't think granny smiths are just for snobs, well not when they are in season.
