USA, Canada / The long and proud links between Polish and American Muslims [20]

A beautiful article here about the links between Muslims in Poland and Muslims in New York.

rferl.org/a/lipka-tatar-community-brooklyn-poland-baltic/28513760.html

The links between Polish and American Muslims should be celebrated, and should be enhanced with cultural exchanges, scholarship programmes for Muslim children and young adults and official events in Washington and Warsaw as well as in their traditional lands. Both sides have a lot to offer each other, and they can help to dispel the myths that surround Muslims in both countries.

With time, we can hope that both communities will grow, build new mosques and that their community will continue to go from strength and strength.

USA, Canada / Polish doctor sentenced in US citizenship scam [5]

The Polish doctor Dr. Puszkarski was sentenced to probation after giving false medical opinions to excuse people from taking citizenship/language tests in the United States. If you look online, he has a very nice house and medical practice, meaning that he was living a lavish lifestyle through cheating the United States immigration authorities.

The scam was quite simple. To obtain US citizenship, you need to pass an exam as part of the process. Dr Puszkarski was issuing false documents to show that applicants could not take the test for medical reasons, meaning that his patients were able to become citizens without proving their knowledge of life in the United States or the values by which they were expected to abide. Dr Puszkarski would take large sums of cash for these false documents, and it was certainly a lucrative source of cash for him. Fortunately, he was caught, and given a suspended prison sentence and a 10,000 dollar fine.

More about the story here in Polish - dziennikzwiazkowy.com/polonia/polscy-lekarze-z-chicago-falszowali-podania-o-obywatelstwo-usa/ - it seems that more than one Polish doctor was caught taking part in this racket.

Law / Indefinite contract - Statutory Termination Period [3]

So far I have managed to find out about it

Yes, but it's even more than that. The notice period applies from the start of the week (if under 6 months), otherwise it applies from the start of the *next* month.

However, the same also applies to them getting rid of you. If you don't like it, offer to work under a B2B contract instead where your notice period can be whatever you agree to. In practice, companies won't hold you to the 3 months - you'll be sent on gardening leave, or the contract will be terminated by mutual consent.

Law / Poland's Citizenship Requirements - Is a permanent resident card necessary ? [26]

He is now the CEO of a law firm that gives advice on immigration matters:

That company is a joke. It's actually run/controlled by Indians, and the real man behind the company doesn't even know the difference between a Karta Pobytu and the Zaświadczenie o Zarejestrowaniu Pobytu Obywatela Unii Europejskiej.

News / Public trust in Polish state TV drops [20]

The funniest thing about you Ironside is that you don't even do the most basic of research. It's a CBOS poll, which means that it's controlled by the government.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

Maybe not raking it in, but it's clear that these fees are helping the public universities considerably, especially as the individual faculties usually get to keep the fees from foreign students. For private "universities", it's pretty much the only thing keeping them afloat in some cases.

Either way, I'm totally against it.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

And the poor students can't do anything because they have violated the terms of their visa and will get deported.

Actually, the rules have changed. If you have a karta pobytu, you don't need a work permit and can work as many hours as you like, as long as you continue to be enrolled at the university.

The law changed a couple of years ago, and it's fuelled a boom in overseas students.

Aaah, I meant Warsaw.

Plenty of them in Wroclaw too though, the city seems to have employed an army of them. Not so many in Poznań, but the universities here are doing a relatively bad job of recruiting them compared to other cities.

Food / Making American cheeses (Polish and EU ones are terrible!) [100]

Once in a while, there will be a stand at a fair that has artisan cheeses that are pretty good.

Not once in a while, but almost all the time. Things have changed very quickly in Poland, with cosmopolitan cities all having some form of regular (as in weekly) food fairs where you can buy such things.

Law / Poland's Citizenship Requirements - Is a permanent resident card necessary ? [26]

There is no need for you ta pass a B1 Polish exam, nor is there a need for you to provide proof of income or health insurance. simple really.

That's no longer the case. Those are the old rules, but the Law on Citizenship from 2012 abolished it.

polish-citizenship.eu/foreigners.html contains the updated rules. B1 is obligatory for those that want citizenship through naturalisation.

Law / Stopped by the Poland's Police for no reason while walking at night [94]

If anybody is looking for handouts or priorities of some sort, then this is the wrong country.

Unfortunately, it's no longer the case. There's whole families in Eastern Poland who think that it's perfectly fine to live off 2000zł/month from having 5 kids, while getting additional support in various ways. They do odd work on the side, and voila, they've got a lifestyle that taxpayers support.

Law / Poland's Citizenship Requirements - Is a permanent resident card necessary ? [26]

Do I really have to have been working continuously for the 5 years? This could be a problem.

It's all down to the office, I'm afraid. I applied on pretty much the same basis as you, and they were clear that I had to provide full evidence of what I was doing in Poland from the beginning of the 5 years. Someone else might see it differently, though, especially if you were married the entire time.

The requirements do seem to vary from office to office, so it's worth asking them specifically what they want, even if it's not written online.

BTW - one bad piece of news. You'll get a plastic card, which is more than enough to identify yourself with to the government, but it's no use for travelling with. Unfortunately. :(

News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

They loathe it, don't they. They're acting against Poland by supporting such creeps as Le Pen, and it didn't work.

Exactly. They've been trying to massively interfere in foreign elections, and now that it's failed repeatedly (and is failing in Poland), the bile and anger from them is reminding Europeans exactly why they're rejecting such candidates and parties.

As it stands, the alt-right is losing miserably this year. Even in the local Finnish elections recently, they dropped nearly 33% of their vote from the last election.

Love / What kind of birth certificate do I need to present in order to get married in Poland? [6]

I can also order a new one online. I can either get "computer certification" or "photocopy certification".

Get both, and make sure that they're no older than 3 months at the time of submitting them to the USC. You'll need to get them translated into Polish by a sworn translator, and you should get to the USC in June for a September wedding.

News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

The crying and whining from the Russian-loving alt-right online is hilarious. They failed to get their way with Le Pen, and it's clear that Russian-backed politics are failing miserably in the key battlegrounds. Even in the UK, UKIP were annihilated at the local elections.

Law / Poland's Citizenship Requirements - Is a permanent resident card necessary ? [26]

Perhaps somebody could help clear this up for me?

Sure.

You need to first acquire permanent residency. The process is similar to when you obtained the "Zaświadczenie o Zarejestrowaniu Pobytu Obywatela Unii Europejskiej", except you need to also provide 5 years of continuous work history (with evidence - contracts/history of self employment/etc), a certificate from the Urząd Skarbowy confirming that you don't owe them money, and a valid criminal check. I also had to submit a personal biography.

Once you get that, it's two years (based on marriage) before you can apply for naturalisation as a Polish citizen.

News / Public trust in Polish state TV drops [20]

Meanwhile, most Poles now prefer the independent TVN and TVN24.

Not a surprise there. Have you seen the garbage on TVP lately? It's utter trash, designed to appeal to the very lowest denominator.

Ask the Poles, they're the ones that keep demanding a bigger and more prominent role for Poland in Europe.

(seems that it's yet another right wing fabrication - newsroom.co.nz/@future-learning/2017/05/04/24457/macron-french-culture)

And how much Russia are prepared to spend or already have.

I think we'll see Russia stepping up their efforts considerably in Poland, and I wouldn't be surprised to see incidents start to occur in Lithuania too.

Now things have gone against them and the best candidate for Poland and the rest of our continent has been chosen, they may try to crank things up a bit.

Absolutely. The latest revelations that Trump's golf courses were funded by Russia cash shows us just how deep America is in this.

Polish voters will have one last chance to decide whether they want to remain in the Russian orbit or if they want a seat at the top table with France and Germany. There can be no other way.

News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

I'm convinced now that voters are seeing through the alt-right message. It was working in 2016, but with the Dutch, French and Austrian rejection of the philosophy along with Germans rejecting it, it's simply not working as effectively as it did in 2016. Europeans seem to have had a scare with Trump getting elected, and the blatant Russo-American propaganda online isn't getting through in the way that it looked like it would several months ago.

The big question for me is what will happen with Poland and Hungary. Both of them can easily fall into the Russian embrace, with puppets in control.

I apologies to those liberals here for using Putinite RT as a source, but ... sometimes it can be complete cobblers.

Do you know about how Russian agents have provoked conflict elsewhere? There's a fantastic example from Estonia in 2007 - /news.err.ee/592127/ansip-laaneots-russian-agents-present-during-bronze-night-riots

RT can be credible when it comes to things that aren't of interest to Russia, but in this case (where they've just lost 27 million Euro on Le Pen) - it's not a surprise that they would be attempting to portray Macron's election as anything but decisive.

I think it's also worth pointing out that this election was a clear rejection of Russian-style fake election promises without substance. Macron has a clear plan on how the EU can be improved, and it can be expected that the European Union will be strengthened during this time. Poland under PiS may find it difficult, but that can only help to contribute to getting rid of the menace in 2019.

I fully expect Macron and Merkel to work together on creating a new deal for Europe, one that leaves behind the hateful nationalist ideology and replaces it with a vision for our shared, common future. Poland will have to decide if her future is with France and Germany or with Russia, and as today's vote shows, a confident and knowledgable leader can defeat the populist menace.

This why the EU's economy is declining quickly and doomed to fail.

More propaganda straight from Russia?

In fact, in 2016-2018, it's expected that all of the economies in the EU will grow. Real GDP has been growing for 15 quarters now in the Eurozone, too.

I just wonder why you Americans are posting so much false information about the EU online.

News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

The curious thing about this election is the rabid support that Le Pen attracted from those in the margins in society throughout the world. They bombarded the internet with pro-Le Pen propaganda, yet it simply failed when voters saw in the debate just how poorly prepared she was. She had no answers for the French people, and her poor performance will almost certainly result in a huge amount of defeats in the National Assembly elections this year.

The era of populism is dead. The Macron-Merkel axis will almost certainly strengthen the EU against Russian interference, and one can expect that action will start to be taken against those that are openly cooperating with Russia to influence elections.

I'm personally thankful that the masses can see through the lavishly-financed Russian propaganda in Europe. People are tired of "leaks", which just so happen to be supporting the agenda of Russia, and Macron shows that politics doesn't have to be nasty. People are looking for (and electing) people with dignity and class, people who want to work for their country rather than for Mother Russia.

When we look back in the future, Trump's election may well have been the highpoint for populism. The next big election is the German election, and the AfD are failing miserably to even break the 10% barrier, instead sharing more or less the same vote as The Left party, which is partially the successor party to the East German SED.

Merkel remains comfortably on track for a 4th victory, and the re-emergence of the FDP means that Merkel will have a potential coalition partner that isn't the SPD.
