some time ago (like 10 years) Polish students were allowed to go to the US to work as volunteers (like in say children summer camps) - however the visa given in such cases encompassed 2 or even 3 months and the camp job (which paid you some pocket money actually and some 100 bucks on the departure) usually ended in 4 weeks - in the time left to the expiry of your visa you could (illegally though) arrange for some job - (the organizations that brought volunteers from Poland paid their flights) - I have no idea if such arrangements are still a legal possibility or whether if still legal some American organizations do recruit foreign (including Polish volunteers) - try a web search on this

cremeation is not the cheapest thing - my guess cremation costs around 2000 PLN (there are not many cremation facilities and this drives the price up) - cremated remains used to be obligatory put in cemetery (interred or otherwise) before - but now the family can keep the ashes (and keep them at home for example but also dispose of them according to the will of the deceased) - now I have no idea who can you make responsible for disposing of the ashes if you don't want to bring your family here

unless you want to connect your life with Poland in some wya there is no real value added in learning the Polish language - and I say it as a Polish person

ok - after a moment I thought that after learning (some) Polish you are going to be very well prepared to learn Russian which can be very practical even in the US but isn't just learning Russian first a more sensible idea

well I was not aware of that (if it is a typical thing) - I was just judging on the basis of the regular Lithuanian surnames (which have been in many instances just artificially Lithuanised)

you would have to look into hydrogeological conditions - there can be high water table there (ground water high in the ground) - it raises the cost of building on the site - sometimes limits possibilities (no basement possible) and adds to the cost of heating especially when the basement is nevertheless built

I have no idea about going prices in Lesznowola or Warsaw but if it is an unusually low price (it quite probably is though) then you should have a very careful look at it - also if you consider buying property as an investment rather than for yourself then you should still be caucious with the worsening economic climate around

you should take into account the scales - there are some 10 000 Lithuanians in Poland for almost 40 million Polish citizens - it's not per cents it's not even pro mille - while Polish minority in Lithuania is more than 5 per cent of the whole Population - the cost of technical updates so that 10 000 of people can have their names written as they please is pretty big for Poland (you would have to change all the public software so it handles this - this goes into millions of copies and it all costs) - now what do the authorities of Lithuania do - they not only write your name in Lithuanian letters but they also feel compelled to add Lithuanian suffixes to all these Polish names and perhaps even alter its spelling (and pronounciation) (if you are named Brzozowski you suddenly become Brazauskas - it is not quite acceptable for someone who wants to uphold his/her national identity) - now that also creates problems if the person is travelling to Poland as they also have Polish documents (Karta Polaka) that bear their names in Polish

does this prevent Lithuanians in Poland in calling their children with Lithuanian names in speech - I don't think so - or maybe they actually don't talk Lithuanian at home actually - like this supposed German minority in Poland who mostly speak Polish in their every day lives even at home (I know of people who are active and high in the minority organizations and are just like that)

in the times of the Soviet Union they had no need to learn Lithuanian language - all they needed was Russian - easy peasy - before the war they were Poles in Poland and hat little to no Lithuanian neighbours within Poland (there was in the range of 100 000 Lithuanians in pre-war Poland - why bother with learning a difficult language Lithuanian is) - even further back they also had no need to learn the Lithuanian as the state was Imperial Russia and it imposed it's language where it could - and the area was not as mixed as you would think it was - actually it was the Lithuania proper that was mixed in parts (Lauda) and not so much Wileńszczyzna
