Love / Best way to find a Polish husband...ideas? [120]

Most women your age are far too picky, demanding, spoiled, materialistic, and far from girlfriend material

If you think it gets any easier when they're approaching the menopause, you are sadly mistaken :D

Life / How much does it cost to live in Poland? [42]

When I was in Poland a few weeks ago, I spent about 50 PLN on food and drink, and that was for five days. So, about £2.00 GBP a day. Bought everything at Carrefour.

If I had managed to stay at the apartment I had planned to (long story) and didn't have to stay in a hotel at short notice, I would have spent even less, as I would have done some cooking.

Law / Worked for a restaurant in Poland and the owner refused to pay me. [60]

I have all my docs for living and working. agreement was for 200 hours for x-amount of zloty, which was way to low to even begin with. 1500 by bank and "x" by cash. i had three meetings with the owner where we discussed payment. i am owed at this point 170 hours of pay. 78 from the month paid and 92 from the current month.

Not much point involving the police if part of the money was secretly "cash in hand"; it's a bit like calling the cops because someone broke into your house and stole that huge bag of Ecstasy pills you bought last week :)

This is nothing new in Poland, though. Only a few weeks ago, I overheard a couple of girls who had boarded a tram outside the Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny in Kraków.

One mentioned to the other that she had just packed in her job.

The other girl was shocked: "How are you going to pay your way through university now, then?".

The first girl replied: "I was supposed to get paid about 350 PLN this week, but they only paid me 175 PLN. When I went to the boss to discuss my contracted hours, he replied 'What contract?' So I told him to stick his job".

Life / Is it McPoland? [63]

So do you want to or not?

If "supersize" means they gave you a normal-sized drink, a normal bag of fries, but a huge burger - then yes.

If it means you just get a ton of chips and a gallon of drink, with a regular-sized burger - then no ;)

I just want a big burger ffs lol.

supersize me

I've seen it, and it's gross.

But it's the same as drinking a bottle of vodka a day for years, then wondering why you have recently started vomiting blood.

Everything in moderation is the key. I'm not overweight, I have a normal blood pressure, and no health problems whatsoever, yet I eat McD's from time to time. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, it was a restaurant which portrays itself as more upmarket, with more healthier options, which poisoned me.

Besides, here in the UK, because we have a nanny state, we're not even allowed to "supersize". Not that I would want to anyway - they only give you more fries and more drink, when what I really want is a supersized burger, lol :)

Life / Is it McPoland? [63]

life is getting busier and busier and convenience is the new crowned king in most developed countries

We were far busier when we worked 60+ hours a week in industry (it wasn't that long ago, and I was one of them), yet we ate fewer takeaways back then, so it's just an excuse in my opinion.

I still work very long shifts (including nights) but I can easily cook three different dishes (equalling up to 18 portions) in a few hours on a day off. This saves time later, as it takes about 5-7 minutes to reheat in a microwave. That's truly fast food :)

It's easy to do if you know how, but "too busy" generally means "no time for Facebook/TV/the pub" etc. these days. A lot of people are just lazier than they used to be.

Lol, and you don't have to use the Geocitiesizer to remind yourself how the internet looked back in the mid-90s - just look at her blog! haha

Feedback / Daily/Weekly Polls (suggestion) [19]

I want polls too. I asked for them once and the admin/mods said no.

They used to be a default option years ago, iirc. What happened? Was that an alleged (cough) forum improvement (cough) which I missed in between usernames?

Polls are a good idea.

I agree

here's one for starters:

Are there too many Jewish threads on PF?

1. Yes
2. No, of course not - I'm the Chief Rabbi
3. Who cares, nickidewbear is a troll

History / "Quiet Hero" a book on Polish Survivors rarely heard - by Rita Cosby [26]

Oi! Some of us were sending paczki do Polski before people named Dave had even heard of internet trolling :p this was a tradition amongst my generation, and previous generations.

Of course, now that Poland is becoming better-off, and the UK is struggling (especially pensioners) my mum says "Poland can **** off, they can send ME some parcels for a change!" haha :D

No, seriously... I think you meant American Polonia ;) hehe

Australia / Polish Culture in Melbourne, Australia [87]

Barscz Zł 8,oo
Gołąbki Zł 18,00

Total Zł 26,00

Still more expensive than the Wong Kei in central London, or the Kashmir in Bradford! :D

However, I do appreciate the effort which goes into making gołąbki (which is why I rarely make them, but I frequently make special fried rice lol), which makes good restaurant gołąbki well worth paying for ;)

Life / Is it McPoland? [63]

Spot on.

+1

I'm a great cook, and I never buy supermarket ready meals (ugh) - I like the taste of my own cooking more than anything. But even I go to McD's occasionally. It's a nice change. and, unlike a certain local kebab shop, or a certain very well-known pizza chain, they have never, ever given me a dodgy stomach. Shame they had to demolish a historic local cinema to make way for it though.

I'd rather go to Nando's, which is more like "real" food, but they always look at me funny when I ask for four fried chickens and a Coke, especially if I take the pi** and order in a really whiny Salfordian accent lmao.

However, I would never use one In Poland unless I lived there, as I always eat local food when abroad.

Life / A rant on customer service in Poland [42]

Do they really give a damn though?

Probably not... for now. ;) But if everyone was like me, they would soon be out of work... and then they would care. Either that, or working for Carrefour instead lol.

Life / A rant on customer service in Poland [42]

hehe :)

Seriously, it's not that long since I was asked "do you have 98 grosze" in a MarcPol in Warsaw, for shopping which cost 13,98 PLN. No, I'm not joking.

I replied "how about I give you 14 PLN and you give me 2 grosze change?" You should have seen the look he gave me, lmao. They don't like it when you answer back.

And they like it even less when you say "give me that look again and I'll **** off to Carrefour instead". :D

UK, Ireland / Crying Polish truck driver on British roads is Internet hit [269]

oooh Lisa, my heroine!
I doubt ZIMMY will respond to that, Lisa doesn't fit in to his world view....
I bet she picks up the bill too.

:D

Lisa is more than welcome to drive that truck over to Manchester, I could do with a decent night out lol.

Oh, but she does. I respect any woman who will take on a 'man's job'.

How about men who take on so-called "women's jobs"? I had a very manly job for many years (hard manual work, 100% male workforce), now I do "women's work" - which, ironically, I suspect that many men would find to be too much like hard work, and they would choose to become office boys instead.

This proves we need more female long haul truckers. Perhaps 50% should be the goal. After all, aren't many women complaining about "equality"? Once on the road they can learn to change tires, and fix any small engine repairs as well.

If Lisa from Ice Road Truckers can do it, anyone can. She's hardly a 120kg butch dyke, is she :)

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

insurance runs about 1000 to 1800 per month for a family of four --the same as a mortgage payment.

I know ;)

But my point is that $100 000 USD p.a. is a quite a lot more than I earn over here, despite the fact that I earn a fair bit above average in the UK. But it would never tempt me to move to the USA, even though I will never have to support "a family of four".

Then again, here in the UK, I am forced to pay £700 a month for benefits and pensions I will probably never receive (it all goes on supporting the feckless), so we're not really better off over here.

LIkewise, it's not necessarily relevant that a Polish welder can earn a lot more in a Scandinavian country - many would rather stay at home and earn 7000 PLN a month without having to move abroad.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

I am sure that there will be plenty of skilled workers who would rather stay in Poland.

Exactly. Yet some people on this forum will never understand that life is not just about where you can make the most money. I could easily earn over $100 000 p.a. in the USA, but would I move there? Not a chance; I've got everything I'll ever need within a few miles of here.

Travel / My holiday, Gdansk or Kaunus, Lithuania? Help me decide! [23]

I've only been to Gdansk, so my opinions may not be appreciated. I only spent about 9 hours there, but even that seemed too long, and I had a lot of time to fill before my flight back to Warszawa. I liked it a lot, and it's definitely worth a visit, but it's not a huge city. It's not, in my opinion, a beautiful city, although the main pedestrianised areas are very attractive. Most of the rest of the city centre looks like Manchester's Northern Quarter: run-down but characterful. It doesn't look very Polish, but that is part of the attraction. If you are planning on spending 5 days there, then you will probably want/need to get out of town to Sopot/Gdynia, and possibly further afield (Malbork/Szczecin) as well.

Life / A rant on customer service in Poland [42]

Beckski, I can't speak for the USA, but over here, "chicken flavour" and "chicken flavoured" isn't the same thing - which is why chicken flavour soup can be kosher-pareve lol. Back to Polish customer service: you have to be tough - if they take the pi**, I just dump the stuff on the belt & tell them I'm going elsewhere, just like over here. It's not the PRL era any more.

Food / Which type of sausage in Poland is closest to an American kielbasa? [23]

Yet more proof that many Pol-Ams are considered a joke on here. pgtx is right - it's laughable that you would want to find an American-style fake "Polish-style" kielbasa, when the real thing is everywhere you turn. But I imagine that a lot of people would go to Italy and complain that they can't get a "decent" Starbucks-style "coffee"... lol.

News / SUNDAY WITHOUT MASS IN POLAND - Judaeo-leftist Wyborcza gloats [165]

It wouldn't be taboo if you described all other businesses in the same way

The irony is, if a UK newspaper dared to write anything similar about Polish-American culture, Polonius3 would be the first to complain about "racism".

I can see the "Daily Mail gloats as 'Polish-controlled' pierogies warehouse burns" tagline already... :)

News / SUNDAY WITHOUT MASS IN POLAND - Judaeo-leftist Wyborcza gloats [165]

If it's derogatory and hate speech then I'd agree with you but if it's a fact that corporations, newspapers, film studios are owned by people of Jewish heritage who may also be practicing Jews then how can stating facts be classed as anti Semitic? If I say Israel is controlled by the Jews is that anti Semitic or am I stating a fact?

It's all about the way the term is used.

"Israel is a Jewish-controlled state" - this is stating a fact, and should be considered neutral; although it could become anti-Semitic if used in a certain way, e.g., "Israel is a Jewish-controlled state, so why are you surprised that the Jew media always supports Zionist tyranny?".

The way these things are stated here on PF are generally stated in an offensive and anti-Semitic way. Rather than just stating that that certain media corporations are run by Jews, the fact that these organisations are "Jew-controlled" is used to ensure that Jews are used as scapegoats for any problem/issue you can think of. If someone disagrees with a news report, it's "the corrupt Jew media". If prices rise, it's because "the greedy Jew is filling his pockets again". If there's a stock market crash, it's because financial institutions are "Jew-controlled". And so on.

Anti Semitism is far from Christian

Try telling P3 that ;)

Besides, not all Jews are Leftist or willing to group Catholicism in with Christianity.

ditto.

Hang around for a bit longer and you'll learn even more rubbish about the "Jew media" from so-called "Polish" Americans.
