News / Barbara Piasecka Johnson, Maid Who Married Multimillionaire, Dies at 76 [57]

This man wanted this woman, he got her, and he loved having her. You really show your psychic pain by announcing how incomprehensible you find that. Some men DO love women.

He did cheat on his at-the-time wife for her, though, and they were 40-some years in age difference.

Life / Is it a 'big deal' to wish Happy Easter in Poland? [29]

Exactly. Every year the same annoying things like Pesach, Chanukah, Yom Kippur, and Rosh Hashana. Get rid of it all.

I frankly like them.

Why don't you do us all a favour and leave Poland, eh? o_O

:-)

Travel / Where is Bakojewa (Bakoyewa), Poland? [5]

Bakojewa (Bakoyewa), Poland? I'm thinking that it is actually Poczajów, but I'm unsure.

[Moved from]: Where Is "Bijnczki"?

PS We need a separate category for "Geography".

Love / Woman 23, man 47 years old. What do you think about ? [162]

That guy is too old for you. Go find someone closer to your age.

I agree. Besides, the Bible does say to treat younger women as sisters, and the converse is thus true: treat younger men as brothers (e.g., If you were not born before or when they were bnei- or banot-mitzvah, then forget it.

PS. There is Biblical precedence for the bnei-mitzvah age being 12 or 13.).

If I were 47 year old man I would be very curious about motives of my 23 year old girlfriend and my own. Both options, Pygmalion or father figure are not good foundation for solid structures.

I agree.

Genealogy / Can one become Polish? [21]

Can you become Polish? This is the issue I would like to start discussing here.

Citizen wise, yes. Ethnically wise (unless you are already Polish or of Polish descent), no.

History / Origins of Poland national differences? [41]

.If we assume point of view that European nations are so different, then how they become so different?Had they been genetically different originally?

To answer your second question first, no. There were three sons of Noah: Shem, Japheth, and Ham. Then, of course, came the Tower of Babel. That's when the nations became culturally, linguistically, and genetically (in terms of ethnicity, not race) different. For example, a German will carry an I1b while a Pole will carry R1a; whereas a Jew descended from a German may carry I1b or any of the J haplotypes (including the Cohen Modal Haplotype)--depending on who his dad is--, and a Jew descended from a Pole may carry R1a or any of the J haplotypes. Jews descended from Khazars may carry Haplotype R1a1a1, by the way.

Meanwhile, a German will usually speak German, a Pole Polish, and a Jew Hebrew or dialect thereof (e.g., Yiddish).

Genealogy / Looking for Info on "Antonina Petryna" and "Kasimir Szymanski" [6]

Try the Russian and the English spellings, too--e.g., "Shymansky".

My grandfather, Kasimir Szymanski, came from Tomaszow Lubelski. His Wife's name was Antonina Petryna. I don't know where she was from, and I don't know for certain, how her maiden name was spelled.

Given the naming pattern (although "Shymanski" sounds very Jewish for a Polish surname; and Petryna probably comes from "Petra" and could be of Greek or Jewish-maybe Jewish-Greek--origin), you're likely an ethnic Pole and Polish Catholic. Nonetheless, look for burial dates and customs (e.g., whether they had viewings and/or calling hours, or not--Jews and many Anusim do not have viewings or calling hours, though they have memorials and funerals), naming patterns (e.g., Was your aunt Mary named for the Virgin Mary or a relative and not the Mother of Jesus?), and at your dad's mom's side, for example (What were they? Openly Jewish? Anusim? gentiles?).

My dad told me that his family were aristocrats, and donated the land that their church was built on, to the town of Tomaszow Lubelski..

Maybe; but, kid, my Crypto-Jewish grandparents made up stories, too.

I have the microfilmed church records from the town of Tomaszow Lubelski, which I obtained from the Mormon Church, and they are written in Polish and Russian (depending on the year of the record).

I am hoping that if someone in Tomaszow Lubelski would see this

Good luck--and especially if you think that you are a Polish Jew (and one who particularly believes in Jesus), watch out--I'm speaking from experience. I haven't seen my family yet on these forums, and I've seen plenty of attempting-to-be detractors. Your grandma is likely to be "Petrynówna" or "Petrynova", by the way.

News / Exorcist monthly goes on sale in Poland [17]

Polonius3: Scientology is the one true faith! All others are hoaxes.
Thats what Islam thinks of itself....

So do other faiths, with very few exceptions. Also, Judaism and Christianity have had history, archaeology, genetics, and other factors to prove themselves.

Love / Chastity rings in Poland - bad news for 'dziwkarze' [42]

It is nice that people wear it and are proud of this.

My sister wore one for a while. So now wears a promise ring, and she and her boyfriend are both waiting until marriage.

Genealogy / Hrabowski surname [9]

I found his public family tree on Ancestry.com and provided (and cited) the info, which comes right from the tree. He also claimed that his great-great-granddad was a Polish slave owner in the CBS interview (which someone found and cited). I had no idea about Mundia, etc.. As I stated, you ought to contact the family--they might have no idea about what yo found out.

Life / An Indian wants to convert to Christianity in Poland [60]

I stated that I didn't know whether that was your case. I trust that you're reasonably trying to escape India from persecution against Christians. I can only--if I even can--imagine what Christians in India experience.

Life / An Indian wants to convert to Christianity in Poland [60]

Nickidewbear,Too much speculation and I go with my instincts and my instincts tell me it's for reasons other than persecution.

I see your point. Sadly (and I'm not saying that this is Javed's angle), he could using the old Mohamedan principle of lying to advance his faith. By the way, I will never call a Mohamedan a "Muslim" (submitter) or Mohamedism "Islam" (submission) if I can help it.

Life / An Indian wants to convert to Christianity in Poland [60]

Weirdly enough, some Christians choose to stay. Also, the point was made that Javed could be Muslim (which is true: Javed/Yaved is an Arabic name and can be a Jewish name as well). He could be Jewish as well, and Muslims and some Indian (including Cochin) Jews might not be too happy that he seemingly betrayed them right now.

Life / An Indian wants to convert to Christianity in Poland [60]

He might be converting to Roman instead of Keralite (Indian Syrian) Catholicism and figuring that he could blend in better with the Poles than other Europeans. He may be trying to figure out how to get asylum.

This sounds like a visa job to me based on a religious pretext.

You have to understand how badly Indian (including Keralite) Christians are persecuted by Hindus and Indian Muslims.
