USA, Canada / My wife wants to return to Poland...but I want to stay in the US [155]

In which case my mate should have got rid of her partner of 9 years last year when his penis stopped funtioning because he was depressed!.

I'm just kidding, sorry. My missus has bouts with depression also. On a happier note, my pecker is still known as "The diamond cutter" round these parts. Wooooo-Hooooooooo!

Life / Can foreigners really understand Poles? [136]

I wounder whatever is possible for a foreigner to really understand other cultures.
I know that they can be insightful sometime but if is possible for them to understand deeply nation psyche - if there is such a thing?:)
What is your opinion?

Yes and no. If immersed in Polish culture for some lenthy time, It would still be colored (excuse me, coloured) by my native culture as frame of reference. Understood in the mind, yes, in the heart or instinctively? probably not.

Food / Burgers, why not in Poland? [54]

The beautiful simplicity of a burger with swiss cheese and a slice of sweet onion on toasted rye is sublime. Mushroom and Swiss burger? Yes please!

I think many Europeans just dont have the sophisticated tastebuds required to process the amount of awesomeness that a good native burger-master is capable of producing. Same thing with BBQ ribs, prolly.

News / 2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.. [52]

I suggest that you drive the I5 north and see for yourself...

I've driven it in Seattle but not SF. Was in SF in 07' for a spell. Nice brunch at the Cliff house.

Except for the rolling blackouts and the loss of power every time the wind reaches 15 mph.

Rolling blackouts were a completely manufactured event in the Enron days. I guess the grid could be in pretty bad shape there with the financial situation.

Never been to Ohio. Does Dayton really have the same problems as the Bay Area? I"m surprised.

Well, I don't know that Its a problem per-se. Ohio is one of the more populous states and has many cities that have the usual issues. Our cities began to decline 30 years ago with the departure of heavy industry. Dayton is about 45% black and 51% white. Understand that its really not about race but culture. Black folk hate n*ggers too. I actually enjoy the stress and chaos, I kind of thrive on that stuff. I'm the Michael Savage of Ohio.

News / 2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.. [52]

C'mon. Everybody is complaining about our crumbling highways and bridges (well, at least here on the west coast that is

Thats because you live in Mexico. Complaining doesn't equal fact.

joke of a power grid we have,

Um, I'm pretty familiar with it. It's really not bad. Could always be better though.

B- would be fair IMHO.

B+ for me.

or near urban white trailer trash, near urban Latinos, near urban Chinese, ...

I live with all of the above, I stand by my first post. There is a reason I bought acreage an hour from Dayton. Its my family and friends "lifeboat" if war breaks out.

This can't be right, Everything here is wrong all the time!

Look at the Infrastructure and Risk & Safety ratings for example.

Well, The roads are good here and safety is good also unless you live near urban blacks.

The list seems to cover alot of "subjective" type stuff also.

per capita, there are more murders in Poland than the US.

History / Life in communism vs democracy in Poland [234]

Why have the populations in 3rd world countrys doubled in the last 70 years?

Could it be the Fat, **************, WHITE FARMER?

Nomaderol, Dont you recognize prosperity and GODS BLESSING when you see it?

Are you so blind in your hatred of capitalism and white people that you cannot see this?

The truth is that YOU PEOPLE have become so accustomed to the generosity of others that you now think yourselves entitled to it.

Like a baby bird with its mouth wide-open you are. Waiting to push your mother from the nest when you are large enough!

Food / Polish Herring Appetizer [21]

Well---you asked for it so--------------here it is !!!!!!!

YUM!! I am going to make this.

Would you recommend this melange of fighting tastes? This should go well in the USA.

The store variety pickled herring in the US is actually quite good I think. I buy this brand at my local market when I am being lazy.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

It will be interesting to see if there is a surge in passport applications once the teleprompter in chief starts making mince meat out of the country. :)

He will leave before we will. He and his cronies are the endpoint of an ideology that has led to failure, The Chemo for the cancer is mixed and treatment is near. They have tried guilt, threats, and even pitting us against each other. The people know what they know and all the govt is doing is destroying its own credibility.

IMO.

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

I'm so confused, how am I acting like a douche?

The vinegar of truth that is your written word, burns their eyes when they read it.

History / Weapons of WWII (Poland and other countries) [239]

Bought it from a private owner(family friend). Paid $50 about 15 years ago. It was with the stipulation that I keep it for myself or in my family. This rifle had "significant" sentimental value to its previous owner. The money was at my insistance, She would have just given it to me. I will bequeth it to a nephew I suppose. (I take these things very seriously)

I remember British .303 rifles going for $20 in the 80s.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.303_British_Enfield

My mother had a .32 cal Walther ppk (pre war) that she carried. That is still in the family as well. I have one also, but it is a .380 ppk/s en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_PPK

History / Weapons of WWII (Poland and other countries) [239]

Look, you know they hate us

I bow to no one. I just pick my battles carefully. Not every provocation needs a response. There are some pretty standard Euro arguments and such that get tossed out here pretty regularly. Some are genuine and some are intentionally crafted. This forum is a part of geo-politik as well. I actually look forward to Europe being the next super-power. I dont think they really have the will to impose themselves on anyone though. I think we could get back to the topic at hand, we've found each others buttons.

History / Weapons of WWII (Poland and other countries) [239]

There's plenty of countries, some of them you lack education to know about that were a regional or global power centuries longer then US and faced much greater odds then America, you're not the first, not the last and definitely not the greatest.

Painfully true to a certain degree. Power comes and power goes. Same story different location.
With regard to the former empires and such, We don't need to know about most of them, they are not "our" history. I can see how it makes a difference to Europeans primarily due to their tribal nature and such. But here, we tend to remember the story not the actors.

Scrappy, you can't take this stuff personally. adjust yourself and come back.

History / Weapons of WWII (Poland and other countries) [239]

Have you been there?

Yes. I also do project work (Instrumentation) with them pretty regularly. I remember starting up a chemical facility in Poland in about 1992, All the boxes of control equipment had been rifled through and the fuses and lightbulbs removed. things were tough for them.

The place we stayed had 1 telephone in the lobby, when I went back a year or so later they had phones in all the rooms. It was a real eye opener.

Hey, I'm serious make them pay for all the security we provided since they hate us so much. Guess who had to foot the bill for all of that? We did.

They can't. Also, I'm not so sure anymore that they did'nt want to be under communism. We did what we did because we thought it to be the right thing at the time. forgive us if we were wrong.

One thing I've realized in 20 years of dealing with Europeans is that their mindset is as far from the American mindset as a Chinese would be from a Rwandan. I guess the beauty of this forum is that we can discuss these differences under a common language and see each others viewpoints.

Even if they are always wrong :) :)

Scrappy, Currently in Europe, Brussels is trying to assemble a nation of states. Geo-politically speaking, Any alliance with us is a threat to Brussels. (The BIG picture)

Europe per se, is not a fan of the US.

I'm not justifying the nuking of those cities.

I am. I can also justify firebombing Tokyo. The raids on Tokyo killed more people than both nukes did. Funny how we chose the nuke argument just because it has a stronger emotional effect. We should ask some Chinese how they feel about it.....

Fast forward 65 years: My baby sister (speaks Japanese fluently) studied in Japan in her last year of college and I drive a Toyota.

Fun Fact: I have laid hands on an aircraft named "Bockscar"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bockscar

Christ, they're Europeans

Yeah, They're wound pretty tight bro! We all have different perspectives. I like to think that when they pick on us they are leaving someone else alone. Still love 'em though.

Life / Why are Poles in other countries called "Plastic Poles"? [168]

I have never mis-represented myself

If this statement is true, Why are you harassing me.

one of those Americans who attempts to identify with a foreign country.

Poland contains the greater part of my family history. Would it be odd for me to have some interest in it?

any actual Polish or general European person will see you only as an American laughably trying to be something he is not.

Is this intended specificly for me or all others like me on this forum?

What is it you want Matowy?

Life / Why are Poles in other countries called "Plastic Poles"? [168]

Not all together untrue.
So when grandma McAninich called me to tell me about Bobby Sands, or, when my father followed Lech Walesa and solidarity and told me it was very important for our relatives, I should have just laughed and said "whatever, who cares"?

I see your point, but I still think you are kind of a douchebag.

Any plastic Americans on here? I want to have somebody to belittle.

We need to devise some uniquely American surnames and start using them.
Any help would be welcomed. (braces for sh1t-storm...)

Mine would be McSkifeather
