Life / Poland's Next Top Model (TV show) [73]

I love the blatant product placement,
isn't there rules against that?

It's more of a show about the latest Pantene product than about finding a new top model :-P

Life / Legal Graffiti Walls in Poland? [45]

Will try to get some pictures.

That'd be cool if you could, could you post the address to, I'd like to take some pics the next time I'm there

If you know of his crimes and don't report him, then this makes you a criminal too

oh lord... relax your cracks, what are you a copper? not like anyone is dealing heroin here or tax dodging or feeling up kids

Tagging is no more an expression of free speech than smashing windows is art.

Art is subjective so it depends on the context of the broken window, was it in a gallery? Was it a drug dealer's Jeep? if so then both are art for me :-P

Tag your car ;)

haha, like this in Krakow.

History / Maus by Vladek Spiegelman - animals to represent Poles? [68]

I was thinking an Eagle, since (for me at least) it's associated with bravery (risking life to save Jewish neighbours) and pride (proud of being Polish). I also thought bear, because they are a survival animal (Poland survived for 123 yrs without a country during partitions)

Did you just come across it, or did you actually bother to read it?
If you did actually bother to read it then you'd know why the Poles are illustrated as pigs.

Troll question if ever there was a troll question

He targets the ones that only require repainting, in case he gets caught

And which ones are they?

Life / Poles don't know how to celebrate the Polish Independence Day? [57]

In sum, Polish independance day in not seen as all that important. By many Poles.

So back to my original point,
wouldn't it be great if the country used it was a day to celebrate being Polish? Instead of just sittin at home watchin 20year old movies on Polsat.

hat part of 'respect other people's property' do you not understand?

The part where they look disgusting..... The first train i was ever on in Poland, I was going to Oswiecim, I asked the missus "Ah wow, they even use the trains that they used in WWII" She laughed and said "No, this is a normal Polish train"

A little bit of colour never hurt anyone, except the makers of black and white televisions.

I get your point though and I reckon if there we more legal walls for artists then the amount graffiti on trains would fall. Plus the fact that security is so lax around the depots doesn't help.

You'd think that a company as bloated as PKP would have enough security, even installing some cctv would help a bit.

I like it on trains, but I wouldn't do it on them, as I said, I don't do it illegally, I do it in my garage or when asked to do some by paying customers

vomiting on the street at any given opportunity.

better out than in ;-)

seriously though, foget about gettin locked and that, I just cant understand why its not a day to celebrate being all that is Polish, even if it was just a day with some parades for kids in city centres etc.

I'm gonna organise a party in my house for my Polish friends, we're gonna listen to disco-polo and eat loads of traditional food, I'm even trying to convince one of my miner friends to either wear the uniform or let me wear it

The scum should have the word vandal tattooed on their foreheads

I'm not scum and I dont tag or "scrawl" on public or private property.

I do hate most of the **** here though, football tags everywhere are so so gay, when it's done properly it's an artform, but yea I agree that it shouldn't appear on flats/houses, unless the owner wants it.

Polish trains do look a whole lot better with a lick of paint though

Why is it that Euro kids want so to emulate our scummy urban black "culture"

.....now now, dude, dont be racist.

It doesn't take any courage to tag a tenement where the inhabitants barely make ends meet and can't afford to repaint the walls every two weeks.

Yea, you're dead right, stupid crap football slogans are a pain, that's why there should be places where proper tagger have somewhere to practice their talent.

I bet you're all gonna come back now and give me ****/lecture me/call me a knobend etc
but I'm not the type that writes on people's walls, I usually paint in my garage unless someone wants me to do something on their wall for a small fee

Life / Poles don't know how to celebrate the Polish Independence Day? [57]

I'm told that in some places they're starting to have more public kinds of celebrations

good people should celebrate it

We have our polish Ostatki.

Ok, then let's celebrate that too :-)

Must every celebration end in a booze-up? Looks as though some people are beyond higher values or deeper feelings

How is life up in your ivory tower? Lonely? :-P

Life / Poles don't know how to celebrate the Polish Independence Day? [57]

With my bitter disappointment now fading after finally coming to term with Halloween not being celebrated here (unless you go to a crappy niteclub) , i asked my Polish friends how do ye celebrate Polish Independence Day?

They stared at me with blank faces and asked was i mad. Why is the day not a day of celebration and joy, ya know to celebrate every thing about being Polish?

And dont give me any of that crap about Polish history being so sad and all that lark, I'm a paddy so i know what its like to have a miserable history

Wouldnt it be cool if the while country was united in a day of celebration, a bit like St Patricks Day back home or like 4th July in the US etc

Then again maybe its just coz im a paddy and im just wanting an excuse to party

every man loves a challenge but if she hasn't let you bone here yet then she's not goin to.
most polish girls will give it up pretty easy, which is a great thing, not like the frigid yokes back at home, but still man, time to move to greener pastures

History / Poland War - Old Military Medals [13]

I was in Kazimierz a few weeks back and bought a wee old military medal off one of the lovely old guys that sell them close to the market.....

anyway, I only bought a fairly cheap one, and with my crappy Polish I wasn't quite able to understand him when he was explaining what the medal was for, I've done a search on the internet and I can't find it, are they're any sites you know of or even any books where I could find out.

Next time I go I'd like to maybe get another one of two, they may become valuable with time

UK, Ireland / Poles and Irish, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [62]

I think there might be a little bit of animosity between the two nations since the siege of Dublin by king Sobieski in 256 b.c.

bah hahaha! good one.

I never seen anything to suggest paddys and poles are enemies
I never seen a poles treated in a racist..(well xenophobic way...we're of the same race aren't we?).... way at home and I've never once been treated like that since I moved here either.

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

What has worked?

the smoking ban

Define "worked". I'd say it has not "worked" here.

There isn't a smoking ban in Poland...is there? Naw there isn't, there's non-smoking sections in pubs but thats a moronic idea, as smoke is carried by air and you cant stop the smoke gettin into non-smoking sections

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Again, you don't have to. You can go to a non smoking bar, restaurant, and pretty much everywhere else, it's a non issue.

I don't have to go to the pub????
man, I'm Irish, yes I do have to go to the fuckin pub, I love pubs, really love them, actually the one thing I really miss about home is the pub culture, it's not the same here, ye all sit down in pubs...wtf is that all about, how can you meet people if you're sitting down :-P

I've never seen a non-smoking bar in Kato, maybe there is one, probably isn't though, not much of a nightlife here y'know?

I don't know if there's a demand, but what I'm saying is that everywhere the non-smoking bar policy has been introduced it has worked, I used to smoke and it was a great way to meet people, going outside for a smoke, borrowing a lighter and strike up a conversation....although if there's no seats to sit down on then maybe the Poles stay there (^_^)

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

It'd be fantastic if the ban comes into effect, it worked in all the countries that it's been introduced to so far, dont see why it wont work in Poland.

We should all remember that only between 15-20% of the population of any country smokes, so why should the other 80% put up with your cancer sticks

Law / Copywriting rate for websites written in English in Poland? [5]

Basically it is just content for a website for a bar/restaurant

I'd have to do a little research into it by sending questions to the owners/manager etc

I'd need to write up material for the Home/Landing page, the About page and the Location page & maybe one or two more.

It's nothing too difficult, I'd say the price would be around 1000zl?
Would that be right or would I be charging far too much?

Thanks for your help too lads, much obliged

Law / Advice for not getting paid for some teaching. Small claims court in Poland? [10]

was supposed to be into my bank but I've never gotten anything. and to your 2nd question, yes, I had signed reports from the firm I was doing the lessons with to say that they attended the lessons and then I fillled out a form for the company I worked for to show them what I was doing in each lesson and what material I used etc
