Life / One of more conspicuous Polish traits - inconsequence? [37]

Never mind, raelly, Włodek.

Next example : many times Poles didn`t take advantage of the victories they gained over enemies:
Battle at Grunwald
After the battle, the Polish and Lithuanian forces delayed their attack on the Teutonic capital in Marienburg (Malbork), remaining on the battlefield for three days and then marching an average of only about 15 km (9.3 mi) per day.[78] The main forces did not reach heavily fortified Marienburg until 26 July. This delay gave Heinrich von Plauen enough time to organize a defense.

Life / Is 10500 monthly is enough for a family to live in Warsaw Poland [136]

more likely you own three flats which you could buy collectively for 450,000 Zlotys in Krk,

I bought 2 and inherited 1, all worth about 7.5. :):):)

As for a house in the countryside you could get away with 70-80,000 Zlotys.

No, I am planning to spend a little more than that. :):)

So a combined future wealth of 800,000 Zlotys does not make you rich.

Yes. :):)

firstly I doubt you own 3 apartments in Krakow more likely you own three flats

BTW, what is the difference apart from US and BR use?

Life / Temperament of Poles - my observations [23]

5) Poles can not work in teams and tend to be independent, which screws work in today's global work environment.

The only characteristic which truly applies to Poles in general is No 5 about Polish independence and unwillingness to work in a team. Yes, Poles are used to working on their own.

All the remaining are not national but individual traits which can be used to describe any people wherever.

You want to claim that the Neanderthals were Polish, too? ;)

Yes, that sort of claim suggests that the poster who started this thread is historically impaired and we can discuss if this fact is a curse or blessing for her. :):):)

I think you're making one big mistake, typical for foreigners in Poland - you believe what Poles tell you when it comes to salaries. Poles are utter liars in my experience when it comes to talking about money - pretending to be poor is almost a national sport here. I think almost everyone on this forum that's lived in Poland has a story or two about "poor Poles" actually earning a significant amount on the side.

True. I own 3 apartments in Krakow and am going to buy one more and a house in the countryside before I retire. But officially I am poor, remember.

News / Tomasevski makes an idiot out of himself yet again [28]

The leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, MEP Valdemar Tomasevski,

When I read the title, I thought you are talking about a famous Polish goalkeeper who stopped England long ago.

Travel / Traveling around Poland - our photo stories with very personal commentary [225]

Hi. We are spending a week in southern Poland`s region of Gorlice as usual but I came back home for a while because one of our cats got sick and I had to take him to a vet. I didn`t know there are so many night vets in Krakow.

The weather is perfect, not too hot nor cool, but the main problem is the complete lack of mushrooms in forests - so far I have found one noble mushroom which is already dried - it smells delicious so I am thinking of making soup of it.

And I have also seen 3 poisonous mushrooms. Catastrophical drought!
Tomorrow we are going to Krynica Zdrój to get some mineral water treatment for all our stresses.

Of course that was a joke, sorry, f stop and rozumiemnic, you probably thought I was serious.

Tomorrow we are going to Krynica Zdrój to get some mineral water treatment for all our stresses.

Veni, vidi, vici. Krynica hasn`t changed much since our last visit, but they are thouroughly modernising the main mineral water drinkink hall.

News / Polish police chief removes crosses [250]

A truthful answer : because the Catholic Church is in a position that makes it very very difficult to cut their funding or do anything to hurt their existence.

I see you are evasive. :):):)

Next question then, which should be final one: Why is the Catholic Church in such position in Poland?

Life / The annual national pilgtrimage in Poland - all roads lead to Częstochowa [28]

if you believe that your God will cure you because you went to a hill and gave some offerings, then by all means, travel on.

Sorry, you mixed the order of events. First you go to a hill, are cured and only then you give material offerings. That`s how I was taught at religion classes.

Of course, before that all, you should give spiritual offerings but I suppose you know nothing about it. :):)
But offerings are far more than simply the check we write on Sunday. We are to offer much more to God than our monetary resources. Romans 12:1 exhorts us to offer our bodies "as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God" as part of our worship. Romans 6:13 gives the reason for offering ourselves: because we are "those who have been brought from death to life" and, as such, we are to "offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness." God is not nearly as interested in our monetary offerings as He is our submission and obedience. The truth is that He doesn't need our resources to accomplish His plans and purposes. After all, He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and needs nothing from us. What He desires, however, and what He values, is the heart that overflows with gratitude and thanksgiving to the God who saved us and who gives us all things, knowing our needs before we even ask (Matthew 6:8). Such a heart gives generously, willingly, and cheerfully in response to the love and grace that abounds in Christ (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).

Many people believed and got cured. If you prefer to not ascribe it to anything supernatural, at least read sth about the self-healing power of human mind.

The Fearsome Foursome are a band of hopelessly embittered Christophobes blinded by their seething hatred of Catholic Poland, Christianity, believers and all that is good and decent. Their only faith are the cockeyed prejudices, biases and sacred cows of PC (Poltical Creepiness).

How can they be so biased after spending so much time in Poland? Why haven`t they assimilated and adopted the Polish way of life??? I don`t get it..... :):):):)

Because the Catholic Church earns a massive amount from the State every year? ;)

Next question: Why????

Harry:
'Earns'?!
"Steals" might be a better word.

Guys, spare yourselves those nasty comments which actually show how biased you are. :):) You accuse Polo of extremism but you are the same, only located on the opposite end. It would be funny if you didn`t see it. :):):)

The problem is that only a minority of Poles actually use such facilities.

I suppose you see it in a rather superficial way. Minority which is still majority. :):) Have you seen a single church in Poland turned into a supermarket or club?

No, you haven`t. I wonder why??? :):):)

Why not let Poles live as they wish and believe what they want? Is it a problem for you? Take it or leave it, simple. Next time you can drive through Czech Republic and Slovakia. :):):)

Life / The annual national pilgtrimage in Poland - all roads lead to Częstochowa [28]

Polish TV news bulletins these days are presenting glimpses of the annual national pilgtrimage as the Feast of the Assumption of the BVM approaches.

I wonder why this short text by Polonius which is basically based on real life and doesn`t contain any lies can infuriate some posters so much. :):):):)

What the heck?
People, relax. What are you trying to prove?

I can assure you I am not 'stupid', 'silly' or lacking in 'intelligence'.

Never mind. If you are or not, it is too late to do anything with it now.

Silly again. :):)

sad but predictable.

Life / One of more conspicuous Polish traits - inconsequence? [37]

did the nation really have a Christian heritage though?

The beginning of the Polish state is marked by the RC baptism of Poland in 966. Even communists acknowledged it.

Are you sure about that tho? We should have a referendum or something ;)

Referendums are needed when the matter is too ambiguous to decide. e.g. https://polishforums.com/history/jaruzelski-pinochet-67566/#msg1392987

In case of crosses it is not - some people who constitute a majority hang a cross and then are able to defend it against the minority because they are more numerous. Simple democratic statistics.

:):)

One of our best French humorists

Look at France - the majority of people don`t want crosses etc, so they don`t hang them and if anybody tried, they would take it down because they are more numerous.

Isn`t it simple?

First example

Second

I already mentioned it elsewhere - despite official ban, the ritual slaughter is still practised in Poland.
While industrial-scale ritual slaughter has ceased in Poland since being outlawed in the country's parliament, the Sejm, the Jewish community is still practicing shechita, its chief rabbi told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.

American-born Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich defended continuing shechita as usual, saying that the Jewish community has spoken with several top constitutional lawyers who believe that it "is already legal." The Jewish community "did a big shechita" a week-and-a-half ago, Schudrich said.

It seems Polish Jews are consequent while Polish Poles aren`t.

Life / One of more conspicuous Polish traits - inconsequence? [37]

Poles may seem inconsequent to foreigners. What is worse, they often seem inconsequent to each other.

Sometimes this Polish inconsequence is good and beneficial, sometimes not.

First example

From time to time a discussion breaks out in PF about Poland being nominally a secular, religiously neutral country but with crosses, symbols of Catholicism, hanging everywhere in public places, including schools and even Parliament.

s

Some members object to it, some support: https://polishforums.com/news/police-chief-removes-crosses-67561/

Polish constitution says

Article 25
Churches and other religious organizations shall have equal rights.
Public authorities in the Republic of Poland shall be impartial in matters of personal conviction, whether religious or philosophical, or in relation to outlooks on life, and shall ensure their freedom of expression within public life.

sejm.gov.pl/prawo/konst/angielski/kon1.htm

Article 53
Freedom of conscience and religion shall be ensured to everyone.

So, it is not so clear after all, because in one place we read about impartiality and equal rights, in next about freedom of religion. The state institution should remain impartial but what if people working there want to have a cross??? Their freedom of religion should be respected.

The very introduction attempts to combine it somehow:

We, the Polish Nation - all citizens of the Republic,
Both those who believe in God as the source of truth, justice, good and beauty,
As well as those not sharing such faith but respecting those universal values as arising from other sources,

Equal in rights and obligations towards the common good - Poland,
Beholden to our ancestors for their labours, their struggle for independence achieved at great sacrifice, for our culture rooted in the Christian heritage of the Nation and in universal human values,

...
Desiring to guarantee the rights of the citizens for all time, and to ensure diligence and efficiency in the work of public bodies,
Recognizing our responsibility before God or our own consciences,

Practice proves that as long as most people in Poland prefer to have crosses on walls, they shall hang there. And that is simple democracy - majority rules.

Is it inconsequence???

Yes, but this is real life... Anybody who overlooks it, is sort of clueless. Just take it or leave it rule, simple. :):):)

Sad to say, TV reports

Are you talking about the regime TV???????

that Poland leads Europe in the child obesity department.

Probably not in obesity, but overweight department. There is slight difference:

But, again, don`t believe everything what TV says, especially the regime one. :):):)

Poland is a secular country.

Only in theory. Practice is different and that guy should respect it. If crosses hang in Polish Parliament, why can`t they also hang in the police station???? He is sort of inconsequent and is going to pay for causing ferment..
