Genealogy / Tracing my Polish ancestors? My fathers Polish surname is Daj [13]

I am not sure if this is a village, town or district, I think its near to Warsaw.

It is a town near Warsaw

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karczew

but also a capital of a county with the same name

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmina_Karczew

the Russian troops attacked his home murdered his grandparents and parents and that he was forced to join the cavalry and was sent to siberia, somehow he ended up in Italy

Italy is nothing unusual...but If he was deported to Siberia, It rather wasn't from Karczew as that town wasn't in Soviet occupied area.

News / Local elections in Poland, EU citizens should register to vote [57]

If the gmina level elections suddenly had much more importance

Total nonsense, gmina level elections are very important but there people pay attention to the individuals on the lists, not the parties which support them, so in most cases they vote for local commitees, which doesn't want to have anything to do with mainstream political parties. And how the hell getting mainstream political parties with all their sh*it to the lovel level would be a good idea ? How the hell would you divide 30 seats in the Sejmik between +100 gminas ? If in gmina Rewal the elections were won by "Our Rewal" commitiee then how many places in the Sejmik would that give them ?

pointless

So you say there should be no elections on the level of regions ? How very European of you.

Sejmik elections, not for the whole country at all.

That's the only level where you can compare support for political parties, on the level of cities and towns people vote for a person, not for a party, in many cities (inlcuding Wrocław or Poznań) candidates not connected with any political party are by far more popular than these from PO, PiS or SLD, in many other cases you would find many people voting in parliamentary elections for PiS, who vote PO member for a mayor of their town (or the other way around) simply becasue they personally know this guy and know that he will do a good job, I know that It may be too difficult to understand for so enlightened person as you, but on the local level voters often don't follow their country-level political preferences.

Not a bad result for the PSL either.

Again, you are showing that you simply have no idea about reality in Poland, nevertheless you still prentend to be sa super dooper expert on these matters. PSL has always been very strong on the local level, especially in towns and villages where they have many local leaders on their lists but It doesn't change a fact that they probably won't even get into the parliament after the next elections.

PiS must be stopped.

PO has won everything, they made 112 billion debt this year alone, sell strategic sectors of the economy for pennies, ruin the the whole country but PiS must be stopped, I really start believing that Poles are a nation of idiots.

News / America's Tea Party like Poland's Solidarnosc? [59]

that day is coming soon. In many arenas it has passed us by.

It depends what you mean. Majority of people there still "enjoy" much lower quality of life than factory workers in USA a hundred years ago and It will take many many years to seriously change that situation.

News / America's Tea Party like Poland's Solidarnosc? [59]

PiS, PSL and SLD are all socialists.

True, PO also definately is, just ask any liberal economists what they think about this government. In Poland JKM and his people seem to be the only non-socialistic politicians, unfortunatelly they are ridiculed by the media, so have marginal support. However on the other hand all the major political parties in most of EU are socialistic, so then calling somebody a socialist lose its meaning... what I mean is that in a very poor country somebody making 300% of average income shouldn't be called poor, even though that is still not much money, things need to be put in the right context.

They were as mentioned above, socialists.

Some were, some weren't. Solidarity was a broad movement. Most of major politicians of both PO and PiS were members of It, also some from PSL and even SLD.

But it would be great if Hannah would win in the first round.

You are going to vote for Gronkiewicz-Waltz ? Why do you find her better for this office than other candidates ?

Just to send a message to the duck.

Who ?

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

$65 billion

Some years ago one of the Jewish leaders (of the World Jewish Congress or something) said that Poland will be humiliated (his own words) until $65 billion is paid for "stolen Jewish property". Soon later appeared the issue of the most famous barn (140^2) where 1600 Jews were burnt.

German Prussians anxious about polish Prussians??? How f*ucking unbelievable!!!!
Who opresses whom here????

Poles were opressing Gerries obviously... Butt, what the hell are you trying to prove with some archival text about Polish journalist who was arrested and another guy, who had some documents confiscated...

Nah that'll be the billion's ploughed into your shite state economy you ungratefull potatoe harvesting cowboy.

Do you, pink monkey, realize that tourism in gneral is a tiny part of Poland's GDP and that +90% of the turnover is domestic tourism, nor the foreign one ?

Why dont you tel us some of your lies again about trying to bribe doctors with 10,000 PLN when you cant even afford a 80 PLN forum membership.

LOL ! Are you really that retarded ? Do you realize that having 10k in cash once you really need It wouldn't be a big problem even for a public school teacher ? That's you, who proved to talk crap once you said that you are bribing the doctors with 1k to get faster some life saving operations, that's a total nonsense for anyone who have any idea about the public health care system in Poland - in such cases they simply demand much much more.

I don't donate money to this forum just like +90% of other members. There's a lot of free space on the website, Admin might put advertisements there and cover all the costs without our money. I also don't give money to the stinking plebs asking on the streets for 2 PLN, I guess I can't afford that either.

And of course you know better which cities I have visited in the last years, don't you ?

Because Kraków advertises and promotes itself as a major tourist destination and a large part of the city's income derives from tourism. That's why visitors should expect some English spoken in a hospital emergency room.

Oy. I doubt that foreign tourism count for more than 2% of the city's income but anyway I don't think that nurses have English speaking in their job requirements. BTW It reminds me about some English guy trying to buy half price tickets at the Kraków Główny PKP train station a couple years ago, I was standing in line just after him, dude was shouting and waving his hands for a few minutes, I was laughing my ass off but once It became boring I just told him to f. out and next time ask politely If anybody would be so kind to help him. Some foreign peassants really need to taught manners.

You think tourists should learn Polish first before visiting Poland? I don't think many tourists will still visit! :D

I don't think many care If they visit or not. Now tell us how your 50 EUR spend on beer in Karków is saving us from starvation.

and refused to talk English

And why the hell should they use English ?

I know that English guys are not very popular in Krakow, but these guys are from Spain!

Oy vey. It doesn't matter If one is English or Spanish... once you get drunk, shout in the middle of the night and generally behave like some damn macho (I could bet that's what they were doing) It's rather a matter of time when you will get in trouble and a few kicks in their butts aren't really much to cry about, are they ?
