News / Could Poland be self-sustainable in energy? [56]

I think the biggest problem here in Poland is that there is no concerted effort from the authorities to make people aware of energy-saving. In Belgium you are bombarded with it. Subisidies on local, regional, federal level...

You get penalties for not saving energy...You are literally forced to do it. If only because you feel the effect in your wallet.
Try to build a house in Belgium without an effort to save energy and you you get huge fines (in the form of not being able deduct mortgage costs from your PIT). That is the way to go.

It goes from segregated waste collecting (try in Belgium to put everything in one bag and you are, rightfully, marked as an outcast)
to hefty subsidies for hybrid cars.
Here in Poland the problem is that there is no civic society as such, no public awareness "for the common good".
As for Rydzyk...That is of course a scam. A laugh really that the most fanatical anti-European in Poland wanted to get subsidies for something planned to make him only richer.

UK, Ireland / Holding a British passport. Married a Polish woman. Applying for Polish passport? [21]

Since you are a EU citizen and live in Poland legally, what would be the added value of obtaining Polish citizenship?
I have been offered already twice by the people at Długa 5 to go for a Polish passport, but I do not see the neccessity of it.

As EU citizen you have all the rights (and obligations) as Polish citizens have.
What you cannot do is vote in national and presidential elections, and I think there are some limits still on buying agricultural land (I could be wrong here, perhaps somebody else can correct it).

But for the rest?
Interesting to hear you have a blue residence card..I have a salmon-pink one. First time I hear about blue cards for EU citizens.

If you want to go ahead with it, I think you need to have a permanent residency in Poland and have to live here (meldunek) continuously for the last 5 years.

I would think that in this country there is so much open space but nobody lives. It should not be that hard to put windfarms there.

At the coast: I am Belgian, and in my very much built-up country they built windfarms in the sea where they hinder nobody (except for some seagulls perhaps)

Life / Which cities in Poland have the most expats, and why? [34]

Yes,let us get back on topic :)
The thing is - how do you define an expat? What is the difference between an expat and an immigrant?
I came to Poland 8 years ago with the intention of staying here. What does that make me?

"The Academy was established in 2002. It is a place for both professionals and amateurs alike, who wish to train their culinary skills".

Travel / The British YOBs are back in Polish towns [68]

On the other hand such behaviour was in the past exuded to some disreputable areas, inhabited by underclass and semi-criminal elements. Interesting that such behaviour seems to be spreading among population and can be encountered everywhere including town centres.

Actually here in Warsaw I have never encountered this kind of behaviour. What works far more on my nerves is these criminals who put graffiti on almost every single building in town. They should, when caught, be put with face down in a can of their own paint.

It has to be a Kraków specialty, because here in Warsaw ( and I live here 8 years) I do not remember seeing any stag groups.

What I saw a few years ago was the local Robocops smashing up a yob fight on Plac Zamkowy. With the help of German sheperd dogs :)))) Great initiative and in need for a repeat :)

Life / Only the poor Poles are buying at Biedronka? [32]

Seems the duck succeeded in insulting his entire electorate with telling that only the poor shop at Biedronka.
I was surprised that he knew how to handle proper money (with his mother handling the family budget). I guess using a debit card would have been out of his reach though.

News / Lech Kaczyński statue in Warsaw? [66]

Father Director can pay it from his geotehermal funds :))))
I read somewhere that there was going to be a referendum here in Warsaw for this monstrosity. Good. I guess 80% or so will be sensible and tell "no". Why can't the cross loonies pay it by themselves and put it somewhere on some church ground?

News / New Polish Light Tank - Anders [74]

Tanks are a wasting of money. I do not think the Wehrmacht is going to invade Poland shortly. (Although Nazi flying saucers may have downed the midget plane). The Russians...Give me a reason why? To conquer the FSO factories in Warsaw? To take over Manafaktura in £ódż ?

Of course they look good on Army Day. The midget loved to parade in one of them. It keeps the Polish armaments industry happy. But besides of that ?

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

How many Poles perished in WWII and people form all over the world have a cheek to tell them to stop whining about it !

It means you define Pol;es as being of pure Catholic blood? Preferably living outside Silesia / Kashubia / Mazuria / Górale areas?

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

Perhaps you would like to send them to one of those camps that Poland is so famous for?

Not really. I only see what kind of problems gypsies cause. I hear the stories from first-hand experience. They simply have no morals. They are social parasites posing as "refugees". In my native Flanders there are massive problems with them in simply every place they concentrate.

And yes I think many Poles are antisemitic into their very core...but "these camps" were Nazi death camps.Important difference.

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

My brother-in-law lives in Kędzierzyn-Kożle where there is in Kożle an unhealthy concentration of gypsies. Social-wise, crime-wise.
Nobody knows how they earn a living - apart from plundering the town's meagre social budget.

Travel / Alcohol prices in Poland (Zakopane). [Off-Licence / Store] [20]

For sure here in Warsaw the police takes a very dim view of "lad" garbage. Saw two years ago on Plac Zamkowy a Robocop squad with nasty-looking German sheperds hacking into Legia hooligans. That made my day :).

That said and done, wódka can differ wildly between supermarkets and for example Żaba stores.
Max price for a bottle of wódka 30 PLN ??? For sure not Finlandia or another of the better brands.

Life / Expats, do you use Polish language for most of time when you are in Poland? [12]

How do you define an expat :)
I regard myself as an immigrant, meaning came to Poland to stay here :)
At work I am the only Flemish between Poles...Most of my friends are Polish...So at work between colleagues it is Polish all the times..external French, Dutch, German, English.

At home "Pinglish" :) . And my social circle is almost completely Polish, so no English there.

News / 10 km of a road in Poland costed... 2,3 bilions of PLN! [13]

As for the cost, try at least to compare apples with apples. It is not some road near some village but a road inside of a 3 mln aglomeration with about twenty different kind of bridges and myriads of infrastructure which had to be taken care of during the process (gas pipes, water pipes, electrcity, etc...), not to mention the price of land in such densely urbanized area...

That is true. If you see where the road was built, it was inside Warsaw. Which does not make things exactly easier and for sure more costly.

Travel / A business trip from Warsaw to Bialystok - transportation? [26]

I got rather more confused in Katowice station lately, but I am not the only one I guess. They managed to change the platform for my Warsaw-bound train 3 times in 25 minutes...nothing on the boards of course :)

One consolation here, the new station promises to be a gem - if only they will be able to keep the smelly pondlife out of it :)

News / Poland's atheist loonies have had their 5 minutes [239]

Perhaps there's a simple explanation, Poles are not as perverted as Belgian people and know their boundaries.

Perhaps there is a much better explanation. The polish church is almighty and any policeman, any judge, any politician bringing pedophile cases to light can kiss goodbye to his/her career.

News / Poland's atheist loonies have had their 5 minutes [239]

I watched again the investigating committee on Church crimes against young people in our Belgian parliament.
Last week again revelations of young boys raped by nuns. Today the top Jezuit guy in Belgium apologizing for the horrors committed by members of his order in the past and asking for forgiveness. Last week the archbishop got grilled by a hostile committee.

This will never ever happen in Poland. Any politician doing this...probably would get shot by the crossists.
After all all Polish priests (especially the RM kind) are pure as snow.
