News / Poland a top pot producer? Legalization? [30]

That is surprising. Are those indoor or outdoor operations? They call them plantations, which would indicate fields, then 'under one roof' would indicate indoor.
My grandma used to grow konopie, for rope.
LOL At the and plk123 post, google put an add for marijuana rehab!

UK, Ireland / Con Air UK: Flights take Polish criminals home - the cost to you is £25million [30]

yeah well in the usa the govt charges 10 thousand bucks for a toilet seat.

I'd like to address the toilet seat legend (paraphrasing):
The P-3C Orion antisubmarine aircraft went into service in 1962. Twenty-five years later it was determined that the toilet shroud, the cover that fits over the toilet needed replacement. Since the airplane was out of production this would require new tooling to produce. These on-board toilets required a uniquely shaped, molded fiberglass shroud that had to satisfy specifications for the vibration resistance, weight, and durability. The molds had to be specially made as it had been decades since their original production. The price reflected the design work and the cost of the equipment to manufacture them. Lockheed Corp. charged $34,560 for 54 toilet covers or $640 each, (which is reasonable considering the amount of paperwork and testing needed to put anything on the plane. However, once the proverbial sh!t hit the fan,) the president of Lockheed at the time, Lawrence Kitchen, adjusted to the price to $100 each and returned $29,165.

Polonia / What similarities would you say there are between Poles and Mexicans? [132]

Big difference here. Polish Americans are highly educated. Mexicans? No way

you would be amazed. They have mexican doctors, lawyers, engineers... I kid you not! I worked with a girl engineer from Mexico City. Very smart, warm and engaging people.

Great food, too.

which gives me an idea - for tonights' ladies get together, I'll make guacamole and mango salsa for tortilla chips. And we'll listen to Lila Downs and cry in our tequila!

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

The idea of having a drink stay nice and cold while you're sipping it slowly just does not appeal to Poles, I guess.

Polonia / What similarities would you say there are between Poles and Mexicans? [132]

the cultures do not have that much in common, but if you look hard, and ever spent time with a mexican family, you'll see that the basics are the same - close family, good food, yearning for satisfying work that can support the family, education for kids, and then a little drink and a little dance squeezed inbetween.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

it's not.. tepid or room temp water is actually the best

according to google, and wiki and ...whatever:
"Cold water absorbs more quickly into the body than warmer water, making chilled water preferable for hydration."

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

I prefer to simply keep my drinks in fridge to keep them cold. I dont like to water down my beverage with ice.

that makes perfect sense - I don't add ice to my juice or milk.
But if you're in a bar and see a wall of liquor, obviously not refridgerated, and if you know anything about soda fountains, those are not refridgerated either, there is no reason to ask for a drink sans the ice, unless you have some weird throat condition.

OMG Go home!
I'd be conducting the rest of my bussiness day out of cafe or a bar with a functional AC.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

Some older Poles think ice cold is not good for you. The same fear of getting sick as with the 'drafts'. They will not sit in front of the fan no matter how hot it is. Those I can actually understand.

Then there are those that think they are getting ripped off - they think they get more for their money if they order a rum and coke with no ice. Especailly annoying in bars. No, you will not get more alcohol if you ask for no ice. And if I fill it with the mixer to the top, the drink will be too weak. How about enjoying a nice, ice cold drink the way it was meant to be?

Love / All the good Polish men for dating are taken? [111]

you make it sound like a mindless race.
The way I see it, the "good" ones fall in love in high school or shortly thereafter, marry their sweetheart and grow up/grow old together.

Love / Are there Polish women who date black guys? [281]

here, women with expectations that low, usually have a drug problem and really don't give a sht what happens to them. Is Ukraine that hopeless?

Love / Are there Polish women who date black guys? [281]

That's sad...on the Ukrainian woman's part...but anyway...I think you're right to a sense...

I don't think it's sad. I'm all for mixing it up. Obviously Ukrainian women don't have it better in Ukraine, or they would not be so willing to leave. Turks get to lighten the race a bit, and hopefully their offspring will have a more wordly outlook on life. I'll take a spoiled brat over a racist any time.

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think about Canadians? [44]

I like Canadians. They're like... hippies, but often younger and better adjusted.
If I didn't really like hot weather and warm surf, I'd move there.

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

This will not win me many friends here I suppose, but I really believe that religion is for mentally handicapped. Or old people, afraid of dying.

Not that I'm immune. I used to think that a sunday school for my son was good, at very least it taught him that even if you don't get caught, you still are responsible. Plus, I had these fine memories of magical church, after a mug of sweet warm beer... Anyway, then, he conveniently learned that if you perform some ritual, you can wipe the slate clean again. That does not promote high moral standards, does it?

Travel / Cheaper Flights to Poland [50]

My mate flew to Vietnam for free....and he got paid for being there....all he had to do was drop a few bombs from his skyraider aircraft now and then...can,t beat that for a great deal....

there was a similar joke about air traffic control tower giving a british pilot a hard time about not being familiar with Berlin's landing procedures or somesuch: "Haven't you ever flown to Berlin?!?" he snaps.

"Yes, I have", the pilot answers, "but I didn't land".

Real Estate / The current property boom in Poland is a bubble [342]

get most uppity when decent British folk, like myself, point out that Australians are decended from British cast-offs and that many of them have a strange penchant for beastiality

way to deal with someone who just spent 20 hours on the plane! They might be rowdy, but Spook is just plain dumb.

er... what bubble?

Love / What do Polish girls think about Gypsies? [116]

We all know the sad realities of gypsy life. But there are also some incredibly talented musical families that have entertained people for generations. Given access to education (and dental care) their telent can shine:

Life / Talking over people in conversations; is it a Polish trait? [41]

nope. Many men just ignore what woman is saying and just start talking as if she was not there. That happens a lot.
In addition, I could innundate you with links, right from the news, when two men with opposing views are interviewed, talking right over each other.

Maybe men notice it more when women do it.
