yes the ultra orthodox community here in London - the ones that will not live in Israel because they are too religious - use Yiddish as an everyday language. I only know that because they used to come to our seaside town for their summer holidays.

I spent some time in Israel back in the mid to late 80s Polonius, and even then the only people you heard talking Yiddish seemed ancient. Although of course in those days I had the arrogance of youth..:(

Poland did not have an African slave trade or a colonial background did it? So obviously problems encountered in eg UK, USA, are not going to happen in Poland, silly to suggest they might.

I fear you may have a point Spiritus, sadly.
The Daily Mail should be renamed the Daily Hate.
It hates everyone esp women if you read carefully.
There are always articles about how to look 35 when you are really 70 and stuff, and pics of celebs in their bikinis with insulting captions if a little roll of fat is showing.

Horrible horrible paper!
If you could find an article that was NOT from the Daily Hate, I would be interested.
OK I know I am 'moving the goalposts'....

Spiritus, if you mean about 'Pole bashing' in the UK, I honestly think people are more concerned about Romanians , roma, Bulgarians etc these days.

tbh ~Crow if you are talking about the ruling class elite I would probably agree with you.
But saying 'oh English are like this, like that' is kind of a bit ......stupid. lol. It is a class war as well you know!

maybe you should think about moving to London hernan, where weekend and evening studies are normal and there is much more work available

also, finding work without the language is going to be really really hard, and you already speak English.
I would say your opportunities in an international city like London are going to be far greater.
Plus getting a degree from London would be more prestigious for your future.

Happy and merry are not synonymous. Merry would definitely suggest drunkeness, a pre Christian wassail, and is abhorred by more religious people who would only use 'Happy Christmas' in their cards. eg my mother, lol.,

certainly Merry Christmas, Happy Easter are collocations in daily use

I think another strength of English is that English speakers are quite used to hearing a range of varieties of English.
Whereas you only to stress one word wrong in German and you have them curling their lips and sneering at you and saying
'Vy dont you speak englisch to mir'.

German is definitely more difficult than English at a basic level with its case system and fifteen different ways of saying 'the'!
English is easy to learn to a certain communicative level. The problem is that many people stop there and think that they 'speak English'.
