News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

but political correctness and a bit British 'culture' that if you brush problem under the carpet it does not exist caused it.

So... it's the native British population's fault?

My point was that if something doesn't directly affect EU elites (or their supporters like cms) they assume it doesn't affect anyone or that it's the fault of those affected and not bad policy decision by elites.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

The Brexit campaign did not mention any economic downturn

And the remain campaign was almost entirely about money which alienated many people.

Can you find some quote from Merkel inviting a million refugees ?

Can you find a quote where she said she admitted she had a poor solution to an existing problem? How did they end up in Germany? Magic?

The chaos caused by the wars in the middle east, in which the UK was an enthusiastic participant

first, then why are they in Germany rather than the UK?,

second, cry me a river. afghan, syrian and iraqi 'refugees' who are young men of fighting age need to join what they think is the least bad side and try to improve their countries (crapholes the lot of them) rather than expect Europe to feed them, if there are no bad sides then they should abjure their rotten cultures and do their best to assimilate in every way possible to their new environment.

If the English had their attitude at Dunkirk you'd be writing here in German.

hen economical burden for a ....e and found the job, but that takes time.

a. Nic o nas bez nas (this was a decision taken without the consultation of most other countries or her own population for that matter). asking for help after the fact is disingenuous

b. no muslim minority in any European country contributes more to the country in taxes and economic activity than it receives in services of various kinds, why should anyone expect the merkeljugend to be any different?

News / US Investor seeks 700 million dollars in damages from Poland [45]

Why would Poland shoot themselves in the foot if they want foreign investors to continue to invest in Poland to help improve their country?

the party leader has already explained he'd rather a poorer Poland under his sphere of influence than a richer Poland outside it.

So none of the 1000 lawyers

Of course there are no 1000 lawyers working on this (though I'm sure taxpayers will be billed for their services). The inevitable failure will be used to stir up more anti-German feeling. PiS cannot stand the idea of a Polish population that is not always angry at and afraid of its neighbors so all their international efforts are aimed at sewing discord and digging up pasts that should be left behind.

didn't pay for it any money

What do you call between a fourth and a third of present day Poland?

it is interesting to notice that amongst posters here all foreigners in one or other way

So are you.... do you live here? pay taxes here?

. Why against? Why?

three words, rule of law, Poland has de jure and de facto acceptecd the status quo, going back on that makes Poland look like a nation of shady characters out to squeeze what they can (so they won't have to work?) I don't want to live in a country full of people drooling at the idea of collecting haracz based on old grudges

Again, i'm fine with individuals pursuing action against the German government but Poland going after money is just cheap and tawdry and nasty

Okay, let's assume that Germany paid reparations. How would it be possible to guarantee that some later Polish government wouldn't say it wasn't enough and demand more?

Can PiS guarantee that Can PiS guarantee it wouldn't be back after a year or two to demand more?
What would it take for Poland to declare the issue irrevocably finished cause without such a guarantee there's no reason to talk at all.

Shame. This is an issue for poles not foreigners.

In other words, you're not interested in debate, you're just trying to make people agree with you or shut up. What. A. Commie. You. Are.

And what guarantee is there that if, by some miracle, Germany paid reparations now that some later Polish government would say it wasn't enough and demand more? Can you or PiS guarantee that? If not then the issue is a non-starter.

Are you sure you're thirty?

Whaaaaaaat? He's claiming to be 30? I assumed, from the tone of his writing, that he was an angry teenager.

Actually our legit non commie government was in exile till the 90s

Weird fantasy that has nothing to do with reality.

Again borders were decided for us, not by us

irrelevant, you can't open up one can of worms without opening up others.

Shame that you guys wouldn't want justice, even if delayed, for people who faced death and destruction for years

I'm okay with individuals pursuing cases, but pursuing this at the state level makes Poland like a grifter blackmail country which cannot be trusted to keep its word. That's a good description of PiS (Kaczyński is notorious for backing out of deals and wanting to renegotiate before the ink is dry) but it's no way to run a European country (it's standard operating procedure for the third world).

And what did you suffer? You wouldn't have roots in Breslau without the border adjustments (which were punitive rather than corrective in nature).

The borders were settled by the Allies, not by Germany

So? your claim is that reparations were settled by others and not Poland. You can't open up one without the other, Poland gets a trillion euros and Germany gets Breslau back. Deal?

We will continue to apply pressure on Germany for what they did.

including long after all involved are dead.... this does not make poland look good or honorable international, a nation of oathbreakers!

there's no way to reopen reparations without reopening the border issue, do you want to return to Wrocław or Breslau?

Language / Inanimate vs animate nouns in Polish language [16]

There are six genders in Polish: four in the singular and two in the plural

That's the approach I like, but Polish linguists are more into merging them into five genders based on singular and plural taken together... I know... yech

masculine-virielle on oni
masculine-animate (including facultative animates) on one
masculin-inanimate on one
feminine - ona one
neuter - ono one

Poles are generally distrustful of Germans and tend not to like them at the personal and societal level. It

That does not jibe with my experience at all. The general pattern with Germans (and Russians and some other groups) is to dislike them at the group level mostly for historical reasons but to not have much or any problems at the personal level (certainly no more than they have with each other).

In the far west of Poland, there is stronger dislike and a strange moral apathy about stealing from Germans (juma was widely tolerated by supposedly good Catholic Poles who were willing to skip over the whole 'thou shalt not steal' commandment).

PO wanted to take in migrants from the middle east

Actually, it's a lot more likely they were just helping Merkel's kabuki theater by agreeing to 'resettle' a small number of migrants who would, almost immediatley, return to Germany. The likelihood of more than a tiny handful staying was never realistic. that doesn't mean I approved of phony acceptance of phony 'refugees' but it's not like they were agitating for large scale migration.

And if you were actually living in Poland you're realize that the PiS government is doing nothing from preventing doubtful students and employees from showing up from South Asia and the middle east. They're just complicit in fleecing them which reduces their moral highground by a considerable degree.

One of the features of PIS seems to be trying to undo things done by generations of previous governments

Absolutely. It's their signature - and presumably allows for lots of pocket lining that their supporters are happy to know-no-evil about....

It's simply not possible to govern a country effectively that way

They're not interested in effective governance - it's TKM all the way down. _AND_ it's their way of making excuses, it's not our fault it's those terrible people before us! Some of the more gullible/buyable fall for it.

It also gives an unfortunate impression, however inaccurate and unfair, that Poles don't keep their word

That is _exactly_ the impression they're trying to create to discourage foreign investment and foreign oversight.

It's not a bug of PiS governance i'ts the defining feature - turn other countries against Poland so people liable to oppose them leave and those left are more pliable and ready to accept the next shoveful of manure and call it chocolate.

Now back on the German topic...

Provocation: Germany owes Poland nothing. It might owe individual Polish people something but at the state level there is no legal or ethical reason for pursuing reparations.

Debate!

Life / Boring Life after work in Poland (Bydgoszcz) [29]

So,what to do for avoiding to get make life for exciting and busy.

It's called..ALCOHOL!!!!

In a more serious vein, how good is your Polish? it shouldn't be that hard to find clubs or groups that you might enjoy joining.

Look around older housing estates and you might see something that looks like this

sign

there will probably be notice of different clubs (sometimes excursions) it might be a way to get to meet people and better integrate into the community.

individuals with their own belief system, opinions etc. and still be a real Pole

The idea that only those with particular view (which just happen to be those of the Party) are 'real' Poles is straight out of the PRL

Poland was pretty multicultural before WW2

And... if they can get the language down foreigners have a much easier integrating into Polish life than outsiders do in many European countries. That might change if the numbers get too big but for the time being it's an under-appreciated asset.

No real Pole compares modern day Poland to PRL within PL - that's an insult to Poles and Poland and they'd know that.

Well I guess living in Poland (unlike some people I could name.....) I don't know any Poles that would meet your high standards... apologies.

We're not dependent on favors from any party leader. You're confusing that with commie socialist PRL years.

People that have experience both say that structurally and operationally PiS is essentially a neo-PRL with a different political ideology but the same model of rule by the party leader (and patronage and corruption)

Did you ever consider that perhaps the Poles agree with their policies and vision and that's what they want also for their country?

To be isolated and despised and dependent on favors from the party leader? What a weird weird ambition....

all the positive changes in the Polish-German relations that took decades to achieve will be wiped out if this continues

This is exactly what PiS (or JK) wants. He wants Polish people to be isolated and look to him and PiS and AM for protection.

The thing is that if any money is paid it's going to be absorbed by the budget. ...The victims won't get paid. It's more about the government looking for money

From PiS's point of view reparations are like abortion and sunday shopping, a useful device to distract the public and/or get them riled up. And it always works.

If by some weird happenstance reparations were paid, I assume a lot of it would end up in private bank accounts (or envelopes from foresters' daughters)

When I hear PiSi talk about reparations I hear: "Dance little monkeys! Dance!"

News / Polish-German Reconcilliation Seminar [491]

the time to revisit this issue was when Poland became a free country once again with the fall of Communism.

yes

ut the government at that time were more concerned with building a new democratic modern state than revisiting old woes

they were also more interested in getting Germany to accept the current western border of Poland. If reparations are on the table then why not borders?

News / Poland - Ukraine. Młodzież Wszechpolska against Ukrainians. [180]

Russia is estimated to have roughly half the world's neo nazis

Which is why they're constantly saying that Ukrainians trying to escape being a Russian vassal state (just like Poland did) are nazis, it's the oldest trick in the book - accuse your enemy of what you yourself are doing. Very dumb people fall for it.

just remember, this are the people accusing others of being nazis
