News / Human Trafficking in and from Poland [80]

They don't like their jobs, they do it because the money is good. Those kids flipping burgers don't exactly like their jobs either :)

So what do they do?

Laborers and to a lesser extent, beggars.

Life / Can you buy de-icer in Poland? [11]

Hey now, I use a washing machine because my delicate hands don't work well with a washboard.

On a side note, just put bubble wrap or a piece of cardboard under the wipers...problem solved.

Life / Diaspora, what do you miss from Poland? [15]

Miód pitny- trójniak (any amount will do ;)

I'll buy a couple of bottles and come on here with a couple of drunken rants for the full experience :)

All saints day and going to visit cemeteries

That is one of my favorite parts of living here. I go out a second time late in the evening. It's incredibly peaceful walking through the cemeteries alone with all those candles burning. Dunno, nice time to get some thinking done :)

i think that the fall is in full colour just about now. fresh misty mornings, red leaves, trip to the targ to pick up the harvest fruit.

The leaves haven't changed here yet...still clinging on to summer. I've got a bunch of trees outside of my window, will take some pictures of them changing :)

News / Human Trafficking in and from Poland [80]

It is more difficult to generate sympathy for girls who knowingly and willingly go into prostitution.

You shouldn't have sympathy for them, it's a job, and a well paying one at that.

The real offense is these front companies that run 'placement services' promising young Eastern girls jobs and a new life in a new land only to end up taking them prisoner and forcing them into brutal sexual slavery.

Yup, but no one cares that much. And cross border crimes are difficult to prosecute. Governments are more worried about "designer drugs" than having to deal with violent criminals.

News / Human Trafficking in and from Poland [80]

This surely would deter these perverts and go a long way to curbing this atrocity of a business.

Keep in mind that only a small percentage of prostitution is coerced. Trafficking automatically makes you think of prostitution, but the majority of those trafficked aren't working in the sex industry.

If you're interested, take a look at La Strada. They're good people and incredibly objective. They have shelters that directly help trafficked people, and also provide some of the best research available on the situation.

News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

Banning all illicit drugs got round that hurdle.

You have to define what illicit is. Knee jerk legislation doesn't address it. It's a stupid law, I'm sure the courts will be overjoyed by this new stinking pile of vague legislation.

News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

You may have missed it, but in recent days throngs of teenagers all over Poland have staged anti-designer drug protest outside the shops of the poison purveyors.

Apparently that didn't reach Wroclaw....

I'm high on ETFs at the moment. Iron Butterflies, Iron Condors, and Collars. Feeling damn good too.

News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

Throw people that drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, and consume excessive amounts of caffeine into prison. Same goes for people in public under the mind-altering affects of dangerous pharmaceuticals like zoloft, ambien, prozac, all the rest of the antidepressents. Why make exceptions for one drug, and not for others?

I guess I'm with you on this one?

News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

Tell it to the parents of kids in intensive care or the morgue following a trendy designer-drug trip.

Sounds like Social Darwinism in action. Huzzaaah! One death has been attributed to the drugs, and that was an intentional overdose to commit suicide.

What do we tell the parents of kids in intensive care or the morgue following alcohol poisoning, or after an encounter with a drunk driver (which unlike the stuff that Dopalacze sells, actually does kill people)? The government doesn't care about those people?

Polonia / Does Poland have an embassy in Bangladesh? [2]

Google is your friend. Also, we let women use the internet here too.

Polish citizens traveling to Bangladesh are covered by the visa requirement. Due to the lack of diplomatic representation in Poland Bangladesh visa applications can be submitted at the embassy of the country in the Hague. The required period of validity of the passport at the entrance - a minimum of 6 months following the date of departure from Bangladesh. At the entrance there is no requirement to produce a return ticket , but the traveler must be in possession of both the ticket and other documents relating to onward travel or return. You need to have funds for the period of stay, but their height is not precisely defined.

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

This is true. I believe, however, that an exemption exists on individual earned income below $86,000/year - so, no major worries there.
Interestingly, I've read that social security accounts can be transferred and credited between the national schemes of both countries.

You're right on both counts. If you want to stay legit with the taxman, you'll still need to file even if you're making under $86k. Fun stuff.

Rise up against what btw?

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

As I have stated before on PF, I am, in fact, leaving USSA.

Taking that "USSA" passport with you? If so, remember, as a US citizen, you're taxed on your worldwide income regardless of where you are a resident.

USA, Canada / EMPIRE STATE BUILDING IN NYC DISRESPECTS POLISH AMERICANS! [88]

That's ok! Stating the obvious but it needed to be said. Anyway, I posted a brilliant video on Polish Americans and nobody commented on it. It was right on the mark.

I watched it. Those people seem to have forked a while back and now have their own identity (complete with funny costumes and Polka..).

Law / Millennium Bank Complaint (their entire functional website is in Polish!) [15]

Did you not ask the bank before you opened an account if the internet banking was available in English? Seems strange that it is not anyway, sounds like your missing a click somewhere.

Internet banking is completely in English. Even the investment products sections are in English, with English instructions on how to use the products...

You're definately doing something wrong...

News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

In decadent Germany 14-year-olds are served beer at McDonalds.

Yea, you can order kegs through the drive through window.

If the local popualce vote in a referendum that they want no off-licence shops or pubs within their town's limits, then so be it. That is true democracy.

And that's fair enough, it should be decided on a community level without infringing on the rights of an individual. People should be able to brew on their private property instead :)

On the other hand, if the neighboring locality sells alcohol, fair game. Laws restricting personal freedom are what should be avoided like the plague.

Life / Disco Polo - No No No No No! [95]

What music do you like?

Quite a bit of music, Behemoth, Hank III, Samuel Barber, Driveby Truckers, lots of folk... an eclectic mix.

Not a big fan of pop music.

Excellent at highbrow, crap at populist.

They're great at churning out crappy pop music. I think that 90% of teenage pop love songs are written in a studio somewhere in Dusseldorf by a fat bald 50 year old guy named Gunter.

Travel / Share Your Travel Experiences in Poland [16]

Commuting three times a week to Kraków and back by minibus.

Drive yourself, there, solved that problem for you. Then you don't have to listen to sh*tty n*gger music, spic music, polak music, kike music, island monkey music, slope music, or raghead music. You can listen to your own sh*tty music in your own car, smoke free at that.

News / 20 years of German unification. Poles no longer afraid of Germany. [8]

I don't think there will be as big of an exodus as there was with the UK. Wages for low end jobs...aren't all that great. Germany also isn't too picky about who works labor jobs, there are tons of Poles in Germany already doing that type of work, I'd say more than in the UK.

It'll be interesting to see what the effect is on white collar jobs.

News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

All potnetially harmful products are banned. Full stop!

Alcohol and tobacco bans? Caffeine bans? That's a bit insane.

It sounds like you are looking for a tyrannical state apparatus to control the personal lives and activities of free people. Government knows best after all...

Life / Disco Polo - No No No No No! [95]

One Polish anthropologist told me that Poland's disco-polo bashers are wannabe snobs trying to conceal the fact (even from themselves) that they themselves are only one or two generations removed from the countryside.

It's either that, or that people don't like inane lyrics laid down over droning breeder beats. If snobbery means not liking boring uninspired noise, I'll take that label and wear it with pride.

Kapela ze wsi Warszawa

Awesome, you like Corvus Corax by any chance?
