Life / Passing your Polish language and culture to your kids [74]

Sadly, not everyone does this.

This is a bit of a strange thread.

If I read this correctly, it sounds like you are praising yourself for teaching your kids two languages and pointing fingers at people who don't.

If the parents have 2 different native languages, the child should learn both.

Why "should" they?
Who made you decider of what parents should do?

I am amazed by the enthusiasm to judge on these forums, I mean really are your lives perfect that you have nothing better to do than to sit around judging others?

I think it is great that you taught your children two languages but I just think it's naff the way you are going about on a high horse.

Real Estate / Is this a bad time to buy an apartment in Poland? [142]

I highly doubt that the price is a secret.

It's not.

I would put high end apartments in Krakow anything from 9000 - 11000 PLN per M2.
You can get higher priced but it is uncommon and must be for a super exclusive and unique apartment or just a lie.

wislanetarasy.pl/en/ - Vistula Terraces are nicely located beside Kazimierz and the river, there is a really nice "tram boat" that leaves from outside it and they give prices on their site. I like this one.

There is also: przybulwarze.pl

Both of them are high end and between 9-10,000 PLN per M2.

Property Krakow Group are a real estate company that have many offers all over Krakow.

High end can mean different things to different people, what is it you expect?

What are the prices?

That Garden residence doesn't allow you to see the prices, they want you to enter your email address, so they can get back to you. Well that's all I can find.

UK, Ireland / Irish leaving Ireland again. Economy forcing them to immigrate [39]

When do they leave?

When does the boat set sail? :)

Some of my friends have taken big pay cuts while others have lost their jobs a while ago now, with little hope for a future.

Emigration is usually out of necessity.
I can't imagine that many coming to Poland, mainly due to the language barrier and the difficulties that incurs. Australia, Canada, the U.S., Germany (they have generally a good standard of English). Same as before.

I left Ireland about 9 years ago, when it was at it's peak. I was asked the other day why I had left then, when things were going so well. I didn't have an answer, I just wanted to travel.

UK, Ireland / Irish leaving Ireland again. Economy forcing them to immigrate [39]

Irish economy forcing Irish to immigrate again:

I would view it the other way round.
Ireland prospered for about 15 year, that is the thing, take those fifteen years out of Irish history and nothing has changed.

the atmosphere is increasingly racist, especially amongst the young Irish.

RevokeNice is the embodiment of this. He would not have existed only for the 15 years he was lucky to be born in to.

But MG, although a lot of what you say is true, it's maybe the way you say it (or maybe the way I read it, nobody likes to see their country run down) gives an awful negative impression.

Sure aren't the other W-European countries that you are saying Ireland is not up to scratch with, also in recession due to bad governing, banks and greed?

If you remove the English army to-morrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organisation of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain.....

A disturbingly wonderful quote and regretfully applicable.

None of my friends have left Ireland lately but there has been great talk of Canada.

Real Estate / Poland Housing prices in July 2010 [129]

I ask a question and seek an answer.

What question?
You made a false statement and when it was contested you behaved like a child and it was rightly sent to "random" to be deleted.

Milky, I think it would be much better if you did ask questions but it seems you will throw your toys out of your pram at the answers, I hope I am wrong about that.

Real Estate / Poland Housing prices in July 2010 [129]

I have one question to all the people saying that the property will fall or increase.

You will notice that nobody is saying that property will increase.
Your own data indicates the same thing.

And it appears the only people saying it will fall are people with no idea of what is happening.

I have noticed also a new trend in mortgages but I do not want to write about it yet.

Ah go on, tell us :)

I do not believe to any property report which is saying "buy now, this is the best time to buy" but I can say that I am more positive than negative.

This always sets off alarm bells for me too.

i would be interested in finding out more about property prices in poland

Where, what price range and what type of property?

There are huge differences between types and areas, you'll have to be a lot more specific if you want any feed back.

If Milky, wants to post comments on this forum playing the devils advocate

I agree to an extent, however when someone spends there time misinforming and deliberately lying it is a different story.

His personal situation is however exactly that, personal, and as you say has no bearing on the subject.

The reason for the rise in property in Poland

And all those billions of Euros from the E.U. keeping the lads in work, helps a great deal.

what -ever, believe what you want, im just throwing out a thought once and a while, thats all.

So you don't want to answer why you spend the majority of your time on real estate threads here, sure.

So whats your view on what i said..

The sack of cash is emptying and developers are going into massive debt.

As I said You obviously know nothing of the property situation here in Poland and I have evidence.

Based on GUS data on Open Finance's [open.pl] website

"By the end of July the developers have increased the number of ongoing investment by 77 percent. compared to 2009."

Real Estate / Is this a bad time to buy an apartment in Poland? [142]

What you are looking for, is not expected to slide any more. Things are picking up again and prices are stable, especially for high-end apartments. This is my opinion, I live near Krakow and have some dealings in the real estate business here. I do not see an increase in the value of your potential purchase over the next year. The report from the real estate market - August Poland Open Finance

An important factor is what do you want to use the apartment as?

To live, holiday place, investment, to let out, to sell on...?

The more information you give the better advice we can provide.

milky, just looking at your profile there, you spend the large majority of your time on this site in the property section, why is that?

You claim not to be involved in property in Poland, indeed you claim to not live in Poland at all but in Ireland, which is going through a similar situation to Greece at the moment.

The sack of cash is emptying and developers are going into massive debt.

You obviously know nothing of the property situation here in Poland, so why do you make these things up?
You never provide any kind of evidence to back up your imaginings either.

Life / The "Rudification" Of Society - Is This Happening In Poland As Well? [146]

we need third party

I think we all do.

You may think I am cynical but this left/right stuff is nonsense.
Big corporations run the show, and the masses are too busy squabbling over which party they were born in to, to notice that they are getting the scraps.

The only reason there are two parties, is to maintain the illusion of democracy.

But I was wondering, do we see a general trend here or is it limited to a few isolated incidents?

Depends on how bad things get.
1930s Germany came from starvation and Hitler rose to power.

Yes, they charge me 5 PLN for every withdrawal I make when using their machines.

It is amazing what the feckers get away with.

Millennium Bank, for example

Could you expand on this, please?

MareGaea, do you not think this is about people's financial difficulties like what you said

the obvious parallel would be what happened in the 1930's

.
And as usual the mug on the street (or on the forum) blames Johnny foriegner for their woes rather than the true culprits.
Weapons of mass distraction.

I think the increase in rudeness (if there is one) may be due to financial difficulty and frustration at being hoodwinked by governments, banks and multinational monopolising conglomerates.

I am at a loss why left/right has been brought into this thread at all.

In my honest opinion women do not need any reason to show off their legs :)

why there are so many candles on this cementary?

Because the dead can no longer pay the electric light bill.

All saints!

Why are those very beautiful young ladies showing their legs? ;)

More evidence will be needed to determine why these lovely ladies are showing their legs ;)

I think that a guy has to pull the red thing off with his teeth, or was that a Romanian tradition? I was drunk at the time and can't remember where I was officer.

UK, Ireland / Ive been in the UK for 6 days to relocate and im going back to Poland. [281]

The worst I have encountered are guys (why is it always guys?) that come over here from English speaking countries and think they are the business, the man, that they are better than others. But they don't have a pot to pee in to or a window to throw it out because they never amounted to much and after the novelty of the foreigner wears off, people realise that they are not worth it and the rest is as you say...

Cringe factor 9.7

It is terrible what those young fellas said to you and your wife, no doubt there.

But I can't help but think, having read your posts, that you yourself have double standards:

to abuse someone, whoever he/she may be, white, black, green or brown, without provocation of any kind, is vile. and if it carries a connotation of race, then doubly so.

There are millions of Poles that did not provoke you, yet you are the one tarring them with the same brush:

What is going on?

This is the "phantom barbershop priest", who likes to sneak up behind women and sing!

It's in an Orthodox church but there is a Catholic priest at the door trying to lure the flock in to his church?

A wedding?

Easter? I know people get certain things (salt, eggs, pepper, bread etc...) blessed in Easter but I don't think flowers are part fo the normal ceremony.

Travel / Hospitality, Scenery, Food, Clean Streets: My POSITIVE experiences in Poland (!) [39]

My POSITIVE experiences in Poland (!)

This is going to be a very short thread, not because there is nothing positive about Poland but because many of the posters on here know very little about Poland and just like to bash it out of boredom or something.

Other posters, who live here, have posted what they like about Poland on threads like this one.

So perhaps a better angle would be to tell us what you enjoy and we could make suggestions of similar things in Poland.

History / Today is the 1st of September (WWII start in Poland) [138]

No doubt a memorable date in Polish history, the first of September, albeit not the nicest one.

I have a feeling you are not talking about the fact that today is back to school day.
I used to hate going back to school.

You are probably talking about the 75 anniversary of the beginning of WWII, either that or Smurf's coming to Poland.
