UK, Ireland / Is moving to UK now a good idea? - antipolish prejudice of the Brits [231]

Good point, WB. Whilst stealing is not right, you have to look beyond the Conservatives' justification of why they did it. Maybe the OP poster should be alert when in the UK as there will be a backlash against immigrants by scapegoating them. However, for now, they are manifesting their discontent against the government.

While I understand the need for policing to protect citizens and minorities, they will go beyond the call of duty. Mark my words.

It was Ben Franklin that said sth about a choice. Pursue security instead of individual rights and you will end up with neither.

It is up to the people to try and get on. Some will resist but others will try and strike a chord. That's just human nature.

For sure. I mean, what fun is there in harmony for those people? Politicians have even admitted to looking for chaos and the need for an enemy. It all justifies the need for broad-based, sweeping controls. Create a jungle of sorts and there is a need for intervention in the name of helping out.

Look who is behind The Sun. Rupert Murdoch wants tension to create chaos and that chaos serves as an excuse to control us more and more through policing and CCTV. Remember, most Brits castigate the BNP for their harsh stance on immigration. What does that tell you?

UK, Ireland / Cultural misunderstandings - Polish and English [26]

You misread me completely, ist2 ;)

I was talking about go-enryo, restraint. Many Poles show it but some get irritated easily. Just like most nations.

UK, Ireland / Cultural misunderstandings - Polish and English [26]

I think that Poles are fighting a similar battle to that which the Japanese fought. The Japanese were known for their brutality in WW2 but they worked really hard on creating cultural norms of restraint and non-intrusiveness. The Poles are trying hard to be 'spokojny' but changing your nature through excessive conditioning takes a lot of doing.

Fair point, ist2. There is a mainstream perception that they are 'above' those groups but they fail to accept or take on board that those groups have been mainstays in British culture for a long time. They have worked their way up various ladders and they can't be knocked for that.

Love / Don't want others to join us at a table - is it normal for Polish girls to get angry? [161]

It could well be that, yes. They tend to be quieter and more conservative. Therefore, I'd argue that the approach to etiquette may well have been a factor here. The Polish girl should have known better but, then again, maybe she expected a reaction from confused82. Polish women often expect the guy to take the lead. It's cemented in the culture here.
