Life / Who's Leaving Poland? [138]

no snow

is awesome

This has probably been the mildest winter I've ever experienced. Last year snow was boring and the year b4 was the worst winter I've ever seen....then again I'm from Ireland so any winter where there isn't constant wind and rain is a win in my book.

Language / Hejka / Nara - a trendy youth greeting in Poland? [26]

In my experience hej has always been more common as a leave taking expression rather than a greeting. I assume the same would go for hejka.

yea, mostly I've heard it as that, sometimes as a greeting tho. Which is a bit weird as I can only presume that it comes from the Americanism of saying "hey" for "hi" As I said I used to use it in Ireland too....I blame the influence of such crap tv as Friends & Scrubs.

do zobaczyska

I can honestly say I don't even attempt to say that as it's far too difficult to pronounce.

Language / Hejka / Nara - a trendy youth greeting in Poland? [26]

The thing I don't get is that I hear people saying it as a way of saying goodbye, now I realise that it's because czesc is one word to use for both hi and goodbye, but saying hej as a way of saying goodbye is something I don't think I'll ever get into the practice of saying. I do say it as a hi though, but that's coz back at home I used to too.

Work / Chemistry degree - what are my chances of finding work in Poland? [29]

Pam, don't put much pass on the people on this forum. I moved here about 3 years ago, got offered 4 jobs after 3 interviews. Do the CELTA and move to one of the smaller, less well-known cities and you'll find a decent paying teaching job no bother. I took two of the jobs that were offered and I'm still working for one of them and left the other coz the first one paid more.

Best of luck.

Love / Do Irish / British guys like Polish girls? [138]

No guy, Polish or Irish will fall in love with you for your looks, they may be attracted to your apperance but an Irish man will definitely want more than a trophy girlfriend, they'll be looking for a bit of substance

come on now, tut tut tut, that's simply just not true. It's every man's dream, most of us are just not lucky enough to live the dream.

UK, Ireland / Poles and Irish, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [62]

Look it up

That website gave me nothing, try harder.

I pay more tax than you

very doubtful if you're working class.

a polak

a Polish woman is called a polka, not a polak, unless you're married to a man and stone aged cronies running Ireland & Poland don't allow gay marriage.........yet.

You're a troll Nice, go back to Boards or thejournal where you belong. Most normal forums woulda banned ya a long time ago. Here you have to call someone a fckin llama before that happens.

2011M10
Accession states EU15 to EU27 50,202

that's 50,202 between 12 countries. What are the Polish figure since that what you're whining about?
Sure if it's divided equally, that's only 4,183.5 people. That's not a lot.

I'm going to conduct a little maths lesson here with you now boy.............

So the number of Polish migrant workers in Ireland is how many? According to this peer reviewed document, tcd.ie/sociology/assets/docs/Polish%20migration%20to%20Irel and%20-%20A%20literature%20review.pdf

the population on Poles in Dublin was 100,000 in 2008, so let's say then that the total population of Poles in Ireland is about 200,000, of that the people of working age would normally be about 70%, which makes the number 140,000.

So then chap, of a possible 140,000 Polish migrant workers around 4,183.5 are claiming unemployment.

3,35% of the Polish working population in Ireland are claiming umemployment.
OMFG! Send in the hounds.

Scarlet for ya.

Life / Rules in Poland about Christening - can Church of England be godparent? [11]

but the Godmother we have chosen is Church of England

well, in the eyes of Polish God, who is a far more vindictive & cranky so-and-so that the more hippy, long bearded Santa-like other God, this will be nothing other than treason. And he will have Rydzyk & potato man Jarek & their band of merry geriatrics beating down your door. :P

Have a good one!

UK, Ireland / Research Request- Polish immigrant community in Ireland. [10]

I offered to meet him and show him around the one area in Ireland that has the highest concentration of Polish people

Since when has Limerick been in West Dublin?

he would have my personal assurances regarding his safety

Listen to don corleone here, you've been watching too much sapranos boy...or playing too much GTA.

I left Sinn Fein

The fact that you were even in Sinn Fein show you're nothing only a gurrier.

Like you were wrong about me being on the dole because I live in a working class area

You're misquoting me here chap, I don't know, or care, if you're on the scratcher.

as I support Shamrock Rovers

Finally, we do have something in common.

A team which is currently doing Ireland proud

wouldn't go that far, they've played well but they've still lost 4 out of 4.

pubs which regularly stream

yea pull the other one, I'm sure there are locals in Shanty prefer watchin gornik zabrze take on jagelonska over their precious racing channel.

You can experience the invasion for yourself.

We will probably have bigger peace walls than West Belfast in a generation or two.

Christ, you are a sad prick Revoke, people comin onto a forum lookin for some help with their studies and you insist on badgering your small minded orga sinn fein nonsense on them, why don't you just fck off back to trolling on thejournal.ie or boards.ie instead.

Mods, I understand if ya give me a ban for my language used but this guy Revoke has seriously got to go. His posts have all been just to troll, nothing he has written has been to add any worth to this forum.

News / "Shale Gas Revolution" will make Poland a Leading Country in Europe! [202]

Interactive guide to what actually happens during Fracking, it's from the National Geographic website,
news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/10/101022-breaking-fuel-from-the-rock

The thing that I personally don't like about fracking is that most of the lubricating fluids stay in the ground. I realise that these fluids are left a long way from the surface and the water table, I would like to be sure that they will not have an adverse effect on the environment in the future.

Life / Trick or treat in Poland [24]

visiting the graveside

to look for Zombies?

We had some kids knocking last night, Mrs forgot it was Halloween and when she opened the door she near had a heart attack when she saw all these kids in scary masks.....we had feck all sweets but we threw them what we had, some apples and a few quid between them too.

I detest this graveyard stuff so I was delighted to see some kids actually enjoying themselves this weekend.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Charge them double and see what they say, no harm in trying like. If they baulk at it ask them what kind of price did they expect and then negotiate from there.

Life / The best English newspapers about Poland? [22]

you know if you use google chrome as your web browser it'll auto translate for you...and you can get translation plugins if you prefer to use crappy firefox too.....however there are only two that I know of in print........the Warsaw Voice, which is f€ckin dire and the Krakow Post which usually has SFA about newsworthy stories and prefers to lick the balls of the expats living in the real capital.

Go to websites, there are no English language daily papers, it'd be commercial suicide.

gazeta.pl (Poland's Guardian) (centre Left/Left)

rp.pl (Rzeczpospolita) More like the Times....but the Murdoch Times not the good one (centre Right)
Many tabloids too but what's the point in them eh.

oh yea and this,

Warsaw Business Journal wbj.pl

who just shamelessly rob from the other Polish news sites, google translate it, fix the grammar and publish.........probably making a mint too......wish I'd thought of it first :)
