No but it sure as hell indicates your sympathies, at best Kopernik was part Polish at worst a polonized German loyal to Poland, for political reasons we should officially stick to him being fully Polish and ignore his mother and uncle but in all honesty his ethnicity will always be arguable.

Just one thing; the person who chooses to fight for one country while opposing another belongs to the former.

Which is why the only succesfull Ukrainian commander in history - Chmielnicki (probably an ethnic Pole) is considered Ukrainian today regardless of his ethnicity :))))

first- Coppernic is different from Copernicus.

Thats the same really, Coppernic has a Silesian etymology, later he changed it to Copernicus as did virtually all academics back then.

Now, can you judge about my ethnicity on the base of my signature? I can understand Kopernik if he used Coppernic for signature.

Crow there's nothing to judge, Kopernik had a German mother and a Polish father, the point of fact is however that he studied in a Polish university, got into astronomy because of his Polish professors and fought against Germany for the Polish king.

Personally i'd be satisfied with defining Kopernik as a Polish-German subject of the Polish king (a very loyal one to boot) but i dont trust Germans not to try and fully Germanize him like they did to so many Polish facts and locations, old Polish cities of Gdańsk and Poznań suddenly magically changed into Posen or Danzig so i prefer to stick to the slightly inacurate claim that he was Polish by simple fact that he himself chose the side of Poland when he lived.

Yeah...Sokrates...probably some Pole would had done it (or was about to do it)!

Actually some Danish and Belgian printers were about to do it, the idea was pretty advanced in France too, there's enough German inventions that you can lean on but the press was just about perfecting and commercializing existing technologies.

Well...it reminds be about Don Quichotte but don't let it stop you!

Given that so many important dictonaries and encyclopedias list him as a Pole, Don Quichotte owns those windmills pretty badly.

It was Johannes Gutenberg (no...not another Silesian) who developed the printing press.
Without his work there wouldn't had been the possibility to just "buy a press"....

The idea of a press was around for quite some time, Guttenberg was the first to perfect it and commercialize it but the technology was hovering around for quite some time and since the books and documents were in increased demand there's a pretty safe bet that if he did not someone would still come up with it in that period.

Kudos to them, Germans are clever people which is why we invited them but what does it have to do with there being a "lot" of Germans? Like i said Kraków was at the time the heart of central and eastern Europe, people went there to realise there "American dream" so to speak so you'll find many German, Dutch, French, Russian etc ventures there, thats not an indication of anything but how wealthy and attractive the city was at the time.

Not really no, as far as i know Watzenrode oversaw everything associated with his enrollment details (since he paid for it all) and since Koperniks uncle was German he signed in young Kopernik as German, hardly an argument.

PS: A German brings printing to Poland...any comments on that? :):):)

Its not like we couldnt just buy the press so again kudos to him but its no Prometheus bringing fire, no one denies Gerries were a clever bunch and when not busy beating the shite of each other we made good music together but Kopernik specifically deserves being defended as a Pole.

A city of the Hanseatic League with lots of Germans

Oh please, it was a Polish capital, next thing you know you're going to make a city with 80% Polish population built by Poles and being a Polish capital into a German one, of course it was a member of the league, the league couldnt afford not to have it since it was a gateway to all of Eastern Europe, btw Germans at their peak made up 6% of the population, thats not a "lot".

The guy lived and made business in a predominantly Polish city, so did his grandfather and his great grandfather unless the guy was tugging an interpreter everywhere he went then yeah he spoke Polish, especially since he used a Polish name.

Interestingly enough Kopernik never signed his letters in German, ever, his signature Copernicus is pure Latin, some German guy (dont remember the name) introducted Kopernikus in 18century.

How do you figure he took the then non-existent "German nationality"? He signed his works in Latin, he studied in Poland and could write Polish second names with whats an apparent understanding of gramatics, was the subject of the Polish crown and had a father who's family came from then predominantly Czech Bohemia and lived in Kraków for generations.

Got any proof of that claim? There is no definite source that would confirm that Koperniks father had German roots, he definitely could not speak German, since he was a businesman in a Polish city he had to speak Polish and Latin to even do business.

As far as i know Kopernik studied in Kraków, Poland and in Italy, his main preoccupation in Toruń was astronomy and fighting Germans for the Polish king.

More on Kopernik.

What we know about Kopernik is that he did write his letters in Latin and German but that doesnt prove anything since Poland at the time used Latin as its official law/trade/nobility language.

However a very significant fact that justifies Poles claiming he spoke Polish is the fact that he written Polish peasant names correctly when writing on the goods of the Warmian Bishop, given that Western chronicles and writers regularly made mistakes and misspellings in difficult second names (all Teutonic Chronicles) thats a pretty big argument and if he could write in Polish he could definitely speak it.

As for Koperniks fathers side of the family it originated from Silesia (which was a multicultural region at the time) but his family resided in Kraków for at least 3 generations, he spoke and wrote Polish, had a Polish name and Polish citizensship as well as a Polish merchant coat of arms so he's undisputedly Polish and for several generations too.

Settled intention and meaningful connections are. The latter must be weighed according to the prevailing climate and the totality of factors. So I ask again, the majority of his work was in Polish or German?

In Latin, also Sean Kopernik could speak Polish from day 1 given that his family hailed from Kraków.

As for his name its not germanized, its latinized, it was the fad of these times to have a latinized name for most academics regardless of nationality.

In 1491 Copernicus enrolled, in his father's hometown of Kraków, at the Kraków Academy (now Jagiellonian University). It was there that he probably first encountered astronomy with Professor Albert Brudzewski. Astronomy soon fascinated him, and he began collecting a large library on the subject.

Without Polish help he wouldnt have been into astronomy in the first place, also for a German his father had a pretty Polish origin :)))

For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people.

People like it or not but many Poles who don't even know about their roots have Jewish origin...

Oh well Jewish elites were cooperationg with Polish aris elites ... nothing wrong with that.

Up untill your "elites" denounced our elites to Soviet authorities and Jews became responsible for genocide of the entire social class of Poland.

A few do but Poles and Jews rarely mixed, maybe a few percent of all Poles have some jewish ancestor but thats that.

The issue with Jews was that they attempted to dominate certain fields, they used means either illegal or legal yet unethical their treatment was always based on differentiating between Jews and non Jews i must say that after such an enterprise they should be gratefull for Polish tolerance.
