Work / Got admission in Kozminski university . What about job opportunities after graduation? [6]

If you do not speak Polish then most of the available work would be in data entry, simple bookkeeping, reconciliations, basic auditing et cetera. Salaries in the range for 3000 to 5000 zloty. Potential employers would be outsourcers, western and Polish corporations, and banks.

You could do that sort of thing while you learn Polish. More senior accounting jobd need Polish - at least an understanding

There are other threads here about Kozminski University - its ok for finance and business and has quite good reputation in Poland

Real Estate / Real estate in Poland - licytacje (an auction?) [7]

I have not used that website but I have had a few dealings with liquidation processes in Poland. It is not easy so as Terri says take the utmost care and if you are involved in anything valuable then use a lawyer.

There is little chance of getting a good deal - if its the bank that is owed money they will often manage a sale process that bypasses the komornik - i.e. if it is a very valuable asset.

If the komornik is involved then there is a good chance they are either dodgy or in some cases outright corrupt (though less so these days). They can ask for hefty bribes in return for giving you an inside track.

It is not usually an auction in a crowded room, unless you are buying the furniture - for the real estate itself it might be written offers or more often the komornik will run negotiations in his office with a few parties over a few weeks and see who can close first. This means you need to have your cash ready (I have lost a deal by screwing around with a bank while the other guy had his money ready).

The komornik will be looking for someone who will solve his problems quickly and let him get on with the next job - recent changes to the law have created new opportunities for good insolvency experts but that means you will need to make an offer that leaves no loose ends.

If done right there would be no comeback for any debts against the property - once the komornik is involved then the asset normally becomes clear of debt. However you would still be responsible for any environmental clean up and also check easements from power companies, access to the site etc.

Finally note that the whole process can take a long time and if you are a UK citizen then your rights to acquire the land might be affected by Brexit. Be careful with that - it seems a remote risk but a good rule for Polish liquidation processes is assume Murphy's Law.

Law / International Divorce - my ex wife lives in Poland and I live in Asia (alimony) [39]

828 zloty from that list assuming the child is healthy. That is hardly living like a celebrity, mind you as neither of you have been in Poland and have no idea what things cost then there is no sense in you commenting.

Strange how people who talk about beta males and cucks are trolls who never have their own wife and kids.

News / Schools in Poland to strike tomorrow [235]

Interesting how all the whackjob theories about education are coming from angry young men with no kids of their own to worry about

Travel / Watch out for airport personnel stealing stuff on regional Polish airports. [64]

It does happen - rising problem especially in the US - there are thieves who will book cheap flights and see what they can pick up. I lost a very nice silver keyring this way at Budapest where the security line is quite chaotic. Unlikely to be security staff.

Put your phone, watch etc inside a bag or even just in your jacket and that makes it much more difficult for a thief who only has a couple of seconds to act

Maybe the Russian taxpayer can see an extra line on their small paychecks - one that says funding pathetic trolls.

I am sure if asked they would rather fix the trams or replace some of the rustbucket aircraft carriers. Probably just as well they don't have a choice in the matter actually since elections and representative governments are something only viewed through an alcoholic mist from the 90s

Really ? When they could walk into Amazon or KFC the same day and get steady work for more money. Just maybe the principles means something to them.

Ask your supervisor for a different script, one that has some basis in Polish reality.

Well if that is your view it is just as well you are living in Russia.

Here in Poland in 1981 the c Intro was in the second year of public sector strikes that triggered the end of Communism, a bit more memorable than some Reagan era labor dispute.

I am guessing that for PiS to win the key demographic will be young families - the 500 plus did a lot to deliver these votes in the last election but these are the same people now having to take time off work to look after their kids. I think the election will be very close but if there is a high turnout it will work against PiS.

In most countries with good education systems the method of dealing with the police is to say yes officer and receive the appropriate paperwork and pay a fine based on camera evidence

In Russia it is obviously to stuff a wad of rubles in the breast pocket of his badly ironed jacket

Again sir, interested to know how many children you have ? How much time you have spent at home teaching them and how many discussions you have had with your own children's teachers ?

Perhaps then we could take your views into consideration as the product of bitter experience rather than some script you are reading.

BTW This discussion is about Poland tejachers strike not the US .

Do you think that it is a better use of taxpayers money to give it to pensioners and farmers subsidies with no obligations or to invest it in education ?

And however low opinion of teachers you have do you think they should earn less per hour than a supervisor at KFC ?

Of course the very least creative profession is being a professional troll, unless you count making up grandkids as creative.

What teachers get paid in palatine has nothing to do with Poland. It does not have much to do with you either. Your actual experience is graduating some crappy school in Moscow followed by a career in a dungeon with cheap Korean air con abusing people for money. Witness your previous contribution - turning a discussion about Polish schools into the normal stuff about gays and brown scum.

So the situation here is that teachers get less than someone working in Biedronka. If you had ever been here you would see Biedronkas on every street corner.

Well the Americans are all in bed so we are spared their wisdom.

Pain in the backside for me with the kids lounging around but I support the strike and I think most taxpayers are strongly behind the teachers. PiS put themselves in this position by crowing a few weeks ago that there was money for everything.

Real Estate / Buying and renting an apartment in Poland (South-west of Wroclaw) [4]

There are people that can give a better answer so wait for their views.

No that is not a desirable area - it was hit very hard by the end of communism but is making a steady recovery. It is too far from Wroclaw to commute and you will not have any student market. So your potential tenants would be young families who want to stay in the area. But eventually hey will buy.

As for advantages and disadvantages then all the usual that you can google but some specific Polish ones -

You will find it tough to get a zloty mortgage if you don't earn in zloty

Factor in tax to your calculations - there are two methods of paying which you can google but roughly you will lose 10 percent of your income to tax once you have deducted expenses

Laws are quite tenant friendly at the moment - so best to ensure you have tenants you can trust

There are a few people here who are probably getting yields around 10 percent but they are doing that professionally, watching costs, more experienced on building and repair costs etc - my personal experience is about a 5 percent yield, less if I factor my wife's time, petrol etc. still it's better than getting 1 percent at the bank.

Is the German names plaque people who died on one of those boats that sank while evacuating GdaƄsk ? There seem to be no ethnic Polish or Jewish or mixed names on there so my guess is some people who died as refugees

Work / Salary for work in Lodz (customer service / finance IT) [8]

There are a few threads about Lodz costs if you use the search function. It is one of the cheaper towns in Poland

There is work in shared service centers for people who dont speak Polish but no idea what they would pay - my guess is it would start around 3000 zloty gross.

There are a few sensible comments above but take it with a pinch of salt - none of these guys is working in Poland

Work / A job at a real estate agent vacancy in Wroclaw [22]

Buying or leasing a piece of real estate is a big and expensive decision and people will go for experience and competence rather than novelty.

I think it will be very hard to make a living doing this. While there are some successful foreign agents in Poland they generally either come from a Polish background, or they were sent here by one of the big agencies and thus have the contacts with landlords, developers, capital providers etc.

Try and keep some angle on your existing Nigerian business, see if you can do it remotely, and think of a Plan B for if this does not work out. Without Polish language it will be extremely difficult outside Warsaw - for instance why would I want it take an agent to the notary or bank if he did not speak Polish ?

Real Estate / Bill to support Swiss currency mortgage in Poland [4]

I know this was one of the President's election promises but he walked it back fairly soon after the election and in any case he is not the person who makes the laws.

This probably won't happen for the simple reason that some of the most affected banks are owned by the government and run by government loyalists. I don't think the opposition will be very interested in taking up this issue either.

Food / American baking products (bread, shortening, etc) [19]

I dunno - i split my childhood and teens between the US and UK and i miss the American version of breakfast much more - either at a small diner or at a chain - Bojangles, waffle House, IHOP :) all great. In fact i had a great job cleaning at Waffle House when I was in college and their hash browns are great

Lul Bul - no I am not living there - i have a place in the country and come into town every few weeks for work so i eat out a lot in Warsaw. Indian is getting better - try Guru on Widok.

Food / American baking products (bread, shortening, etc) [19]

[moved from]

there are a few places that do mash with steak - the restaurant at the Intercontinental, Butcher and Wine, Hard Rock and that is about it.

In general it is difficult to get southern food in Poland - I cannot think of anywhere that does biscuits, gravy, grits, greens and only a few places attempt fried chicken. There are some places that do barbecue but none of it that I really eat. Its the one cuisine that is missing in Warsaw - everything else Indian, Mexican, Italian, Spanish French, Thai etc etc has plenty of options.
