Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]

Hey...if you have a Range rover , and you know how to drive it on snow , you will have no problem at all to drive over here...

There are plenty of safe places to stop and rest , some great places to eat , and if your wife is Polish you won,t have any trouble with the language...

Poland is not a dangerous place , but in some of the small villages you may be seen as a rich and vunerable visitor with maybe something worth stealing , just use the usual precautions when parking your car...

Just one point... Auswitch is the name the Germans gave to the extermination camp built near the town of Oswiem , the Poles don,t call it Auswitch...

I have driven from UK to Poland many times , not a problem....much more fun than flying , you see so much more and get to meet people...

Love / Does your Polish partner suffer from disposophobia [46]

Ha... it comes from the old Communist mentality , never throw anything away that may have a use someday....

Of course if you are not so rich , you also tend to keep things that can be repaired...

As an Englishman who bought an old farm in Poland , i was quite amused by the ammount of junk that the old Farmer kept in the place...

But...after a few years of living here i found myself doing the same thing , hanging on to all kinds of junk...

Poles are great at making usefull stuff out of old junk , for example , some old milk churns i was going to throw out before moving out of here have now been transformed into wood burning stoves by a Polish friend of mine....

Its a fact of life , that junk expands to fill whatever space there is to be filled...no problem if you live on a farm as i do...but its a bit of a problem in a small flat....

Travel / Driving from UK to Ukraine via Poland - need car insurance [46]

In the seven years i have been in Poland , the only thing the Polish police want to see is my passport and vehicle ownership documents....

In Ukraine they are usually only interested in your wallet...

Life / Vandalism on cars in Poland [64]

My car was bombed by the Polish air force , scratched , covered in flour , and then subjected to a prolonged nuclear attack...

doesn,t look too bad though , a bit of paint , and it will be fine...

Language / a linguistic explanation for Polish parking. [14]

It annoys me that at my local Biedronka they insist on parking as close as possible to the entrance , not in the parking bays , so they don,t have to move thier fat asses any further than they have to...

I am sure if the doors were wider they would drive the dam car into the shop....

Why did communism in Poland fail?

Because everything in Poland fails....

If you can,t get a dam plug socket to stay in a wall , what chance have you got to make a politcal system work.....?

Food / Are there any real kebab shops in Gdansk? [20]

Well , the only other explanation i can think of is that these Turks wait in ther shops armed and ready to attack clients...

does not make good business sense....?
