Food / Where to find cider in Warsaw [13]

And long gone are the expat days at Morgan's pub in Warsaw where they had cider on tap. sad.

But there is cider on tap in both Bradley's and Legends.

Food / Where to find cider in Warsaw [13]

Looks like the best deal (for decent cider, e.g. Thatchers) from britishcornershop.co.uk is £85 for 52 cans (two 24-packs at £29.99 each and one 4-pack at £4.99, which means a 4-pack is actually cheaper per can!), so about 8zl per can.

You can get it from the Fish & Chip shop on Koszykowa but as can be seen from their website here it is not cheap.

Personally I have mine delivered from the UK by britishcornershop.co.uk and they are a very nice bunch of people.

I have been told that Marks & Spencer in Zloty Tarasy have cider but I haven't been to check yet.

The problem with cider in Poland is that it is taxed as if it was wine, not as beer.

Are Poles supposed to be special by the virtue of being Polish ?

You claim to be Polish and you seriously ask a question like that?!

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

not everyone is a INGLIS TICHR that they want to look for a job.

Deepak, do you really think that any language schools give private medical insurance as part of their package?

and do you think it is not in UK,USA & canada?and how much it costs?if you dont have good health insurance you are doomed in those countries.

Yes, anybody who attempts to rely on the NHS is simply going to die....

Froget above all why do you freaking guys then come to Poland> seriously why?GTF out!

Because Poland is a very nice place to live. Of course it is not perfect but we want to work on making the bad things better.

Now why are you still in Poland? Haven't you realised that your reputation here is now so bad that nobody is ever going to dream of doing business with you and so none of your attempted scams will ever work?

You troll has just repeated my post : this is what I said

No, you said that to receive healthcare one has to pay ZUS. I pointed out that it is obligatory to pay ZUS if one is employed or is self-employed. The fact that ZUS payments are a mandatory levy imposed by the government makes them a tax and thus the healthcare system here is paid for by the taxpayer.

Like what , enlighten us .

Perhaps trying a very commonly used topical cream before using a laser?

But doctors are not as poor as you claim . They can make 10 000 - 30 000 PLN a month, working in private clinics

Sources please.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

To receive the healthcare in Poland you need to pay the insurance to ZUS , if you are employed , it is up for the employer to pay or if you are self-employed it is up to you .

No Moania, if one is self-employed, one is required to pay ZUS. If one is employed, one and one's employer are required to pay ZUS (with the money being deducted before it gets to one).

Tax office and ZUS are two separate institutions . It is not like in the UK or Canada where all the money for healthcare comes from taxes.

Yes Moania, I know that instead of me just making a single monthly tax payment, I have to make five payments (I'm sure that that makes sense to somebody somewhere). However, I take the approach that any fee charged levied by a government is a tax and as such say that healthcare in Poland is paid for by the Polish taxpayer.

Our budget can`t be compared with bigger or economically stronger and more populated countries.

So perhaps it might be better to try low-tech (i.e. cheap) solutions before trying high-tech (i.e. expensive) solutions?

Before bragging about how great the Polish system is, you might want to read this.

And after Moania has finished reading that, perhaps she would like to read something about her claim that Polish doctors are well paid:

Doctors are poorly paid, which may help to account for a relatively low doctor/patient ratio, of an estimated 2.1 physicians per 1,000 population in 2010.

similar situations exist with single mothers getting paid UK money for kids that never set food in the country

Which, if you think about it, is much better for the British taxpayer than the kids moving to the UK (and much worse for the Polish taxpayer).

on pretext of teaching english and living a cheap high life

A cheap high life? Sorry Deepak but a take-away curry from Namaste Clay costs more than a take-away from the curry house nearest to my mother's house in the UK. Even that laughable joke which is Royal India charges more! Cider here is 35% more than in the UK and decent beer costs more in Warsaw than it does in the UK. With such a masterly grip of what things cost, it's no wonder that all of your superb business plans come to nought.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

Its a sign of a country that spends only 2.3% of its GDP on health against the 7.5% average in the First World.

Yawn. Please don't pluck numbers from the air to support whatever rubbish you're banging on about now: according to the Economist Intelligence Unit Poland spent an estimated 7.1% of GDP on healthcare in 2010 (eiu.com/index.asp?layout=ib3PrintArticle&article_id=468300231&printer=printer).

Buying health insurance is probably a good idea in Poland, anyone got a recommendation?

Getting a job with an employer who gives private healthcare as part of your package is a better idea.

Agreed, after all, the Polish system does really cost anything in taxes. You are not paying for the public system.

Really? So if the Polish taxpayer isn't paying for it, who does pay for it? And remember that last time I checked fewer than half the people in Poland actually pay any tax.

it ceases to amaze me the nerve of those people who come to Poland and spend all day complaining about the system, if you don't like it get out

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly retarded pseudo-Polish people can be. FYI: we pay for the shiitty excuse of a public health care system in Poland and that means we are perfectly entitled to point out that it is little short of a national disgrace. How much tax have you paid in Poland in the last ten years?

And by the way, aren't you the same person who says that "No sane person relies on the Polish medical system"? Right here. I assume that you will now be leaving Poland.

They don`t really need your bribes .

The last time I was in a state hospital, there was no toilet paper, no soap and nothing to dry one's hands with. But you claim those places have the money to pay good salaries? Have you been to a place called the real world?

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Your idiocy is so appalling that I can`t believe that it can exist : READ my post nb 93 - remaining troops were in underground army and partisan army and also intelligence . .

According to the source you offer up as the word of God, there were 340,000 in the Polish underground army: those men are counted in the 880,000. Are you claiming that there were 1,112,000 in the Polish intelligence?!

The armed forces of the Polish resistance movement in 1944 numbered more than 500 thousand. people,

Well done, you found a source which says there were 160,000 more than in your previous source: now you are only 952,000 short on your claim of two million. Although we should of course subtract the 375,000 Poles who joined the Nazi army, so we can assess Poland's net contribution to the war.

I sometimes wonder if some Poles blaming Britain for things such as Poland becoming communist is due to their utter ignorance of history and refusal to accept historical facts: you certainly offer very good support for that theory.

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Let`s summarise :regular army troops who participated in the IIWW were estimated as high as : alive 600 000 + dead 160 000= 760 000 .

OK, let's take your number: you claimed two million plus, so where are the remaining +1,260,000?

They,re probably entitled to the privilege having paid dues like other WORKING people.

I said nothing about numbers: I said that some were where they had been since they'd left the Polish army.
You want to speak about who pays for whom, you source facts. Until then, kindly withdraw and apologise.

Digging up petty articles with no substance doesn,t really back up your statements. Think again. ( no insult intended )

Interesting that to you the BBC publishes "petty articles" and that the British government agency which pays for the Poles makes statements "with no substance". Really dude: you just got your arse handed to you who has forgotten more about this subject than you'll ever know: walk away with a shred of integrity intact. No insult intended.

Are you questioning such Polish government authorities as :

I am pointing out that that website has very clear errors on it.

All is written here

Fine, from your recommended source:

When the war in Europe was coming to an end, the Polish troops fighting at the side of the Western Allies numbered more than 210 thousand soldiers

ww2.pl/Land,battles,1941-1945,140.html

at the end of the war it [Polish army in the east] amounted to more than 330 thousand soldiers formed in two armies

ww2.pl/Polish,Army,on,the,Eastern,Front,24.html

It is estimated that until July, 1944 about 34 thousand soldiers of the Home Army and subordinate units were killed- some in combat but mostly they were executed or tortured to death in prisons - more or less 10% of the ranks.

ww2.pl/The,underground,home,army,25.html

210,000 plus 330,000 plus 340,000 equals 880,000: less than half the two million you are claiming. Even the source you provide shows you are a liar!

Anyway, it's been more than covered in these forums in other threads that the vast majority of these so-called Polish citizens were considered to have some German extraction, the so-called "Volksdeutsche".

The standard excuse, but one which overlooks that fact the vast majority of the supposed non-Poles were in reality Polish enough to join the Polish army after they were captured by the western allies (89,300 out of 104,000 total captured).

I have indeed picked it up: I read the bit where it claims that all Poles who fought under western command were excluded from the London Victory parade by the British government for fear of offending Stalin. Then I put it down and picked up a history book instead of a semi-fictional book.

the certifiable kills by these pilots became legendary.

Like the day they claimed to have shot down more planes than the entire allied airforce actually managed.

I've already quoted General Anders comments about the 'invitation'.

You mean the bit where he confirms that Poles were invited but refused to go?

You got busted then

Really? I said that both western and eastern command Poles were invited and both groups refused. Do feel very welcome to quote the posts in which I was "busted". Or just carry on lying about it.

Stop being such a loser!

Stop being a liar.

Probably up to 2 millions Poles served since September 1st, 1939 to May 8th, 1945 in all the Polish military formations - regular armies, partisan troops and underground forces.

Thanks for the laugh! Perhaps you could give some breakdown of that supposed two million?

As for the site which you appear to think is the source to end all sources:

I'm perfectly happy to put 100zl of my money where my mouth is: I just want to know precisely what the bet is now rather than in October 2012 when cms is looking for excuses for not paying out.

Now how about you Mark? You made a very clear statement that prices will go down by more than 20%: how fast are you going to back down when asked to put up or shut up?

A link to the website of the British government agency which runs the 'camp' where some Polish ex-servicemen are still living at the expense of the British taxpayer, where they have lived since they left the Polish armed forces and a link to a BBC article about that camp. I was challenged to provide sources to support my statement of fact and I did so. Perhaps you can provide some sources to support your claims? Oh, sorry, I forgot that your claims are actually lies.

I had a really bad curry there not long ago. I like chillies, spicy food etc, but that was just taking the p1ss. Not as bad as the Tandoori Palace, but still awful. Expensive too.

Meaning it was too hot? I've lost count of the number of times I've been to Clay Oven but have never had a bad meal there.

Przekaski Zakaski is fun, especially in the middle of the night.

Cracking little spot that!

Back up this comment. Where is the truth/proof ?

Very happy to do that, give me ten minutes to check my sources.

Here we go: Ilford Park Polish Home

This purpose-built home was formally opened after a major re-build on the 16th December, 1992.
It provides residential and nursing care to people who qualify for admission under the 1947 Polish Resettlement Act.

Ilford Park is situated at Stover, near Newton Abbot in Devon, on the borders of the Dartmoor National Park.

Ilford Park is administered by the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence.

The professionally trained staff at Ilford Park offer a caring environment with an emphasis on Polish
Culture to fulfil both group and individual needs.

veterans-uk.info/welfare/ipph.html

The recent influx of Poles to Britain is not the first - after the World War II thousands fled communist rule to seek sanctuary in the UK. Some ended up at a remote resettlement camp in Devon and never left.
...
Today, the original inhabitants have moved to a purpose-built care home on the 41-acre site (opened in 1992 and run by the Ministry of Defence), while around them the prefab buildings of the original camp lie decaying, signs warning possible trespassers of asbestos.
...
Most at the home are aware its days are numbered. Only Polish WWII veterans and their spouses are entitled to stay, and they are gradually dying out.

Get a curry at Namaste Clay Oven on ul Piwna.
Have some good Polish beer at the bar next to Namaste Clay Oven.
Walk down Krakowskie Przedmiescie to check out the architecture, then carry on down Nowy Swiat and have a couple of cocktails at Sense before trying some of their 120 different types of vodka.
