Life / The most dissapointed with Poland are those who have Polish origins. [35]

The forests, countryside and cities of Poland are second to none, absolutely the best in the world. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the people.

The modern Pole has changed for the worse, self-righteous, manipulative and greedy.
The thread can go on and on, comparing the old Poland with the new. I for one, regard the old ways, the best ways. Freedom, modernization and capitalism is, or already has ruined Poland. My fore-fathers would turn in their graves if they saw what was happening to the country for which they sacrificed their lives.

Only since the changes, have I denied my Polish roots and will renounce the traditions for my children and grand-children, to save them from utter shame.

Travel / Restaurant reviews in Poland. [86]

the Bollywood Indian restaurant in Gdynia.

Got an address for this place ?
An example of menu and prices.

Xmas is coming, so might have to give this place a try.( traditional English curry and lager night )

I,ve done the Taj mahal, and like you said " great food, expensive and no atmosphere".

Life / Poland's Next Top Model (TV show) [73]

as reality shows go, this one was actually very good.

WHAT ?
Thank God it,s over. Maybe next week they will fill the spot with something decent, like getting some unknown ailing Polish actors, sport celebs and politicians to do the Adam Malysz ski jump competition.

Unfortunately the only previous experience the judges had was at the annual Polish dog show.
As for Joanna Krupa...... she won 1st place, for speaking through her nose.

Law / Ease of doing business in Poland [32]

Well, why not criticise the more stupid aspects of Polish law?

* Shakes head *

That could take a long long time. lol

Law / Ease of doing business in Poland [32]

Frankly, if you're such a businessman, I'm surprised that you've been defeated by a few simple forms that a baby could fill out.

Now, now. Whose getting childish. I haven,t been defeated at all. I currently run a business in PL, but I,m just trying to be honest and tell it as it is. Whether I,m a good businessman or not is irrelevant. Obviously we have a conflict of opinions, which is fair enough, it,s something I can accept. So if you want to get the last word in, carry on, I,m off for now.

Cheers, all the best to you.

Law / Ease of doing business in Poland [32]

Sitting on the phone for an hour, dealing with people who are trained to read from scripts and not having any personal access to people who understand real problems is advantageous? Since when?

You,re talking about call centres, I think you,re on a different wavelength.

Try getting anything in the UK without being listed on the credit databases - it's impossible. Even getting a post-paid supply of electricity is nearly impossible.

How do all the immigrants get things almost straight-away when coming to the UK then ?
What residentual history do they have ?
What credit rating ?
What input have they provided ?
I don,t hear the 2million + Poles in the UK complaining.

Where,s your answer to ...............

delphiandomine:
Anyway, how can you expect companies to provide you with a service if you aren't legally resident there?

So you,re telling me I can,t hire a car in Poland because I am not a resident.

I have business in two other European countries and in three different continents and services are provided regardless of where I reside. So why is Poland different ?

The very first hurdle, is possessing a " pesel ", we don,t have one.

I can go on ......... but whats the point.

Like I said " first hurdle ", I don,t want to go on about the rest.... NIP, Regon, registry etc. it,s tedious and not as simple as you make out. especially with the constant bureaucratic changes.

(eg. being an exchange student living in halls).

I think the thread is about business, not students problems opening bank accounts.

Law / Ease of doing business in Poland [32]

So - it's about the same.

I don,t think so.

of course not, but owning a limited company doesn't give you any automatic rights to residence anyway.

Who wants it anyway ?

Thanks, but I'd rather speak to a real person!

Obviously you have more time than me, I,m rather too busy, so the net, phone and postal service suit me fine and is more advantageous to business.

Anyway, how can you expect companies to provide you with a service if you aren't legally resident there?

And yes, the company was quite right to insist on you having it - without it, you're unlikely to be legally resident in Poland - and without legal residency, why should they supply you with services?

When you subscribe to " sky " in the UK, they don,t ask you for your national insurance number. Like I said " farce ".

But EU law says that you should register for residency

It,s a free europe, so you can chose where you wish to reside.( permanent )

As for those Polish companies in the UK - more fool the UK for allowing people to abuse the UK system when they're not legally resident there.

You don,t have to reside there, it,s a free Europe and the UK is allowing EU members to express their rights. What aid does Poland give to other EU members when they wish to start a business or even reside in the country ?

You don,t have to be a resident to invest in a foreign business or to start a company. There are over 40,000 registered Polish companies in the UK.

Law / Ease of doing business in Poland [32]

yes.

Well, that explains it. Look at things from a foreigners perspective. The very first hurdle, is possessing a " pesel ", we don,t have one. I think Poland is the only country that has. Trying to obtain anything without a pesel is ludicrous.

eg. I purchased a sat tv system no problem, but when I wanted to get connected the company insisted on me having a pesel ( that,s bollox, my friend ). You can sell a product that is rendered useless, unless you have a " pesel "........ what a farce !

It,s interesting to see few or swift replies to your post, but not surprising in the least. When a poster has a negative remark, the die hard patriots seem to crawl back into the woodwork.

I for one though, tend to agree with you. You are absolutely correct in your assumptions. Trying to start a business, has and still is an uphill battle. Established companies are monopolistic and have closed doors, where new ventures are met with mistrust and discrimination. I can go on ......... but whats the point.

Life / Poland's Next Top Model (TV show) [73]

so why would anyone send her home?

The judges already have their favorites from day 1, basically the " yes " girls. Really, the trumped up panel couldn,t tell the difference between a chimpanzee or a gorilla. The show is a farce.

Emilia came across as a fun, serious person, with personality.

Ah, I'm afraid this explains everything.

Yep ! she was herself and not one of the " yes " girls. Hence the big I ams didn,t like her and sent her packing.

Life / Queues in Poland - everyone in line is sandwiched [44]

Don,t worry about those queues, I can stand outside a shop with a three metre pavement in front of me and guarantee that someone walks by and treads on my toes.

I could be walking along the same three metre wide pavement and also give odds on that someone approaching from the opposite direction will home in on me, head-on.

What the hell is it with these people, were they brainwashed to be human torpedoes ?

News / Poland goes bankrupt? [110]

Unless the next government deals with ZUS, there's going to be a lot of pain ahead. The black hole is growing - and the only way to deal with it is to start slashing all the nice pension schemes that Poland has idiotically been funding for years.

Couldn,t put it better myself, well said delph.

Life / INVISIBLE MAN in shops and offices in Poland? [70]

I think he might have begun to notice me when the crisps and chocolate went flying over his head and landed on the floor behind him

Tickled me, this quote. Reminded me of my experience. Stood in a supermarket queue about ten minutes, and when I finally got to the checkout, the cashier decided to have a break and told me to use another checkout ( ever seen a giant can of dog food bouncing along a conveyor belt ? ). And I mean bouncing ! lol.

Travel / Fish and Chips in Warsaw [53]

a rip-off.

hobknobs cost 13zl. If that ain,t a rip off...........

Generally portions of fries or chips in Poland are stingy. It,s difficult to generalize in writing, but I would say that back in the UK I get 10 - 1 more in ratio of potato at equal cost.

There were, honestly about 10 chips in the tray.

I believe you mate and agree, you were ripped off.

Real Estate / Central Heating System Installation Advice (flat near Zakopane) [7]

Why not use portable gas heaters and a wall mounted electric boiler for your hot water. Seems simpler than having to drain and refil C/H system. come and gone winter.

As for your windows, if they are upvc, then that sounds a good price. Ask about the profile of the windows and ask to see a previous contract of theirs, where you may be able to obtain a reference. As terri says, shop around for some other quotes but remember that you get what you pay for, hence the profile and quality.

Seems a shame to put too much investment for the sake of 6 weeks, hope this helps.

News / Is Poland headed for a civil war? [30]

But you said you know where there are lots of hungry people - so - where?

Lots and many are two different words, as is war and unrest, and meagre and hungry, Why are you trying to twist my statements to your own understanding ?

Where ? .... I assure you, it exists, and for many.
I quote from a TV report on Polish children, " I like going to school because at least I get a dinner there ". What does that statement tell you ?

It isn't happening now.

Of course it is, only more easily available credit is on hand now. Any idea of the figure of debt per capita ?

I do wonder where all these hungry people are

Does anyone read properly here and understand the word hypothetical ?

What about the dramatic hike in pensions and salaries?

All relative to the cost of living between 1990 and today. Probably better off with 100 dollars back in 1990.

I'm not going to go digging for facts for you on the internet

Likewise. That,s why I asked if people on here know what hypothetical means.
Keep it light, no offence to anyone, time to say good-night, nice debating with you guys.
Til next time, cheers.

News / Is Poland headed for a civil war? [30]

For the majority of people in Poland life has improved greatly over the past decade, under all governments, and will continue to do so.

If you believe that, then you must be one of the majority. Does the majority come from Warsaw ?
Do you call the hike in prices an improvement ?
Is this improvement continuing ? ...... I don,t think so. National debt rising, tourism in decline, less foreign investment, and so on.
After Euro 2012 is concluded, Poland will see a significant downturn, if not sooner.

As these situations are unlikely to happen, they won't cause a civil war

That,s why I wrote " civil unrest "

People aren't hungry now and aren't likely to be in the future

How can you be so sure ?

But it's pure speculation

exactly.

What kind of circles do you have to walk in to find hungry people in Poland?

Presently this is not rife, ( read from the first post ), but what I am saying ( post 3 ), is that should the situation get worse ( like in the future ), then a hungry person is more dangerous than an insane person. ( Delph is referring to todays Poland, as are you ).

I find it really strange that the guy claimed to have been trying to kill KaczyƄski

Was this guy hungry ?
