The cut off zones? That's trickier. It's easier to just name a city and someone can tell you what time zone it's in. One state doesn't follow time zones. I think it's Arizona. Then you got Hawaii and Alaska. Not sure where they fit in. If you count their zones, could be more than five.

You are probably right, Pawian but I don't feel sorry for them. They knew what they were doing. Maybe they will think twice about going into a church or business and doing their thing without asking first or anything. You know with all the terrorism, that can scare a lot of people. A lot of the behavior issues are developmental and they do grow out of them in time. Key is to remind yourself that it won't last. Like, two year olds. They are notoriously difficult and many people think this is the time to introduce hitting and it's the only way to have a well behaved child but this really is the time you can start a serious pattern of maladaptive parenting skills that will only make the situation worse. Parents need to remind themselves the terrible twos will not last forever. The child needs patience and an opportunity to learn how to control behavior. Hitting only intensifies the emotional response when the poor kid is attempting to learn control. By the time they are five, without hitting, kids are much easier to talk to and their behavior is much better. Just be patient through those trying times and two year olds can really wear the nerves down but remember it only lasts a few years and they are much easier to get along with after this developmental stage has passed.

It caused me a lot of problems in personality and with emotions, communication, trust and fear. Trusting people is impeded.

Corporal punishment seems to be passed down from generation to generation until someone wises up and breaks the cycle. My generation of cousins seem to be much easier going parents even though they were hit with belts. They have a different mindset and know it's not right.

The key to change is letting go of the denial and realize it's not the right thing to do. First thing is realization and admittance though.

My mom hit me and it didn't help at all. In fact, we don't have a great relationship now because of it. My Uncle was hit by my Grandfather who also had a very poor relationship with his father. My Uncle used to hit his kids with a belt and that's one of the worse ways to discipline. I always stayed a healthy distance from my Uncle. Never bothered getting close or even hugging him goodbye after visiting all because he would sit on his recliner hitting a belt on the arm of it. Scary. It's sad that relationships between parents and children come to this.

But why pick on the defenseless? If you ask people if it is alright to smack a dog when it does something disapproved of most will say no yet these same people will say it is okay to smack a kid for the same reason.

That is so true. When parents hit too often, the child will become afraid of them and feel intimidated by them. The child will have a hard time communicating with them. Hitting just impedes the relationship between parents and their children.

They did cross a line going into a church like that and if the book wasn't thrown at them, could be much, much worse when others get the signal they can do what they want. That church looks mighty fancy and they don't give a flip about it. It would be disconcerting to think others might be encouraged to take it to another level and damage such places by vandalizing them all in the name of "protesting Putin." It would be a shame to lose some of these lovely old churches over it.

True, but there were still arrests and local governments got to the point where they said "enough" and stopped them. That's what happened to our OWS protest. Governments tend to get antsy about protests, even in countries like the US. They don't like the idea the protest can spin out of control and people could get injured.

I am not a Putin fan but I don't like the idea of people going to places like this and being allowed to do whatever they see fit. I totally disagree with that idea. Let them protest in a public place. I have no problem with protesting and believe it is a fundamental human need and right but I disagree with the idea that it's fine to do whatever you want whenever you want. There has to be some order or all you have is chaos and chaos never did anyone any good.

Oh but they do, Harry. Do you think for one minute churches do not influence the people who attend them to vote for the conservative, Republican candidate? Not all of them do, but a lot. They want the conservative candidate to win. Churches are behind a lot of these campaigns.


Ideally there should be no vote influencing but that's far from reality. All sorts of interests work to influence the vote. Just someone disclosing their party and bragging about who they vote for is influencing it. Ideally, people are quiet about such matters. They go in the voting booth, they vote and they come out without saying a word about who they voted for before or after. Not a lot of people do this.

I see a lot of signs for candidates around the voting center, too. Is that not much different than churches telling people who to vote for?

In that case, you might do well with an apartment complex next to a downtown area. I am sure they exist in Pittsburg. Look for an area that's been revitalized and is being marketed toward young people with good paying jobs and no kids. There are some places like that around here. Don't know if they are everywhere.

Then there's the regentrification movement. If you can find a place being regentrified, you might find a lot of young, professional neighbors renting nearby.

Actually, more of these types of sentences are needed. If you want to protest, there are much better, more effective ways as seen on Facebook and Twitter. You get people together and you protest out in the open. You do not bust into a private place and stage protests and expect people to say, "fine, it's your freedom of speech." If I owned a church or a business, I would want protection under the law from these types of random events.

If they did something illegal, they have to do the time just like everywhere else. You can't just bust into a church, act crazy and call it a protest or freedom of speech. There's permits and stuff like that to honor. If they didn't go through the appropriate channels, then they have to pay the fine or do the time or whatever it is that's required in Russia. If they don't like it, they should have educated themselves on the penalty before doing it and thought twice.
