UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

IS TWO YEARS OUT OF DATE.

very recently there was some attack on Polish people including the use of a mechete in Walsall IIRC - one Polish man was left crippled - if you think that anti-Polish sentiment in the UK has died out you are wrong

Travel / Unlocked cell phone & SIM requirements for use in Poland / Europe [7]

If you buy a prepaid number here then you need to get that activated - you will need to go to a shop with your passport and they will register you

sorry to have mislead you Mary - I completely forgot about the recent regulations for pre-paid cards - but well I bought mine years ago and it was straighforward back then

Law / Poland's residence permit after marriage to a Polish citizen [24]

(issued not earlier than three months prior to the application)"..

no earlier than three months before the application means it must be recent - if you apply for a temporary residence on the merit of marriage now then you can use your current marriage certificate for the purpose - if you apply later like in six months then you would need a fresh copy of the marriage certificate from the UCS) -

News / Poland's PiS government falls into its own trap on the issue of disabled children [12]

I think he is a generally sensible person who has his own views - not merely support one side or the other.

I have my views and they largely are similar to that of PiS - that's why I asked what party does Ziemowit support and why - also I don't really get a notion that Ziemowit is so very reasonable to be honest

Law / Poland's residence permit after marriage to a Polish citizen [24]

very nice attempt at an insult - but I'm not moved much - the thing is what you see in the screen under the nickname gumish are clearly letters that form intelligible words and even intelligible sentences - you might have not known but this is the definition of literacy - but well now you know - now go tell your literate wife to search for Polish government websites to find information for your case and figure out what you are supposed to do

Travel / Unlocked cell phone & SIM requirements for use in Poland / Europe [7]

Am I likely to do any better than that by buying a local SIM in Europe??!!

a basic SIM card for a pre-paid number here in Poland is in the range of couple of zlotys (PLN) I guess it is similar in the Czech Republic - you can buy it in every news agents (or whatever it is called in American English) - the top-up cards (or rather coupons) for those pre-paids are also ubiquitously available (again all newsagents - newsagents are often in kiosks here) and are relatively cheap

the simplest solution is just buy a pre-paid number in Czech Republic when you are there and then repeat that in Poland - it costs peanuts - as for activation of the number I can't recall to be honest - I have bought mine years ago and I just simply don't remember how it is done - if there are some instructions in Polish (or Czech respectively) ask local people to help you (I wouldn't expect instructions in English for a pre-paid SIM card in Poland to be honest)

Language / Help with Polish language - I'm confused by the noun change when a negation is added - genitive case [5]

I like beer: Lubie piwo - But I don't like beer: Nie lubie piwa

in the Polish language nouns get declined - meaning they acquire new endings for different 'cases' and sometimes (less often) experience a change to the core of the word - which case is used in a sentence is typically governed by the verb or the position in the sentence - typically the active side (the subject of the sentence) is in the case known as 'nominative' - in Polish dictionaries words are listed by their nominatives - there are 6 other 'cases' - in this case the verb 'lubię' requires the accusative form/'case' - it happens so that the nominative and accusative of 'piwo' are the same - however the negation of verbs typically requires a different 'case', namely genitive - the genitive of 'piwo' is 'piwa' - in the singular 'piwo' may go under all these forms: piwo, piwa, piwu, piwie, piwem depending on the role in the sentence (whether it is a subject or object of the verb/sentence and depending on the verb in question - various verbs require different cases also various pronouns (in, above, under, around, on etc) require particular cases of the noun that they are attached to

News / Hungary Veto on Poland Sanctions may not happen [108]

Law passed by the PO-PSL government and introduced for the biggest businesses on the 1st July 2016.

the biggest business were not VAT fraudsters simple as that - it was VAT mafias who use firmy-słupy - and it was a hard stance on VAT fraud that changed the circumstances for 2017

The arithmetic that the 20 billion cost of the 500+ will be covered by VAT reform surely doesn't hold water long term?

it does hold water in the long term because these 20 billion a year were subject of VAT fraud in the times of PO and PO did little to avert it - then came PiS and suddenly it is not safe to perpetuate large scale VAT fraud in Poland - so yeah you are completely out of touch Dougpol

News / Hungary Veto on Poland Sanctions may not happen [108]

Yes.... Poland's GDP shows that it's perfectly reasonable that a family with two children pay zero tax under a threshold of around 1,300 zl/month, plus social payments for being in work.

you realize that raising the tax threshold means the loss of income for the budget and quite a big chunk of it - so how this is reasonable and sustainable if the current giveaway programme is 'unsustainable'

also hardly any family can live off the 500+ alone - it does in practice does in a way encourage one parent to stay at home as the rise of income if they go to work for a minimum wage is not dramatic

Stick to the topic of the thread everyone please

but are intent on buying votes by handing out unsustainable welfare, when raising the tax threshold would do the same job, only better.

interesting - giveaway program is unsastainable and raising the tax threshold misteriously is sustainable - very very interesting indeed - maybe you think for your self but your ways of thinking are strange indeed

News / Internet speed in Poland - 'Plus' provider [2]

What I would like to know is whether there is a way to find out what our average internet usage is

I don't know about your plan but we also have internet with Plus through Cyfrowy Polsat and we have access to a website that tells us the details of our ongoing contract including how much of the limit we have used up - if you plan on downloading bigger things it is adviseable to get a night plan (works from 1 am to 8 am) and has quite a big download limit (in our case it's 200 GB per month) and it costs peanuts

Work / Chemical Engineering Jobs in Poland - Needing Orientation [6]

I haven't been educated in the field of Chemical Engineering and have no actual knowledge of it - but in opinion it will be difficult for you to find a job in Chemical Engineering or any kind of Desing in Poland without a passable command of Polish - the jobs for speakers of foreign langauges including English are in the IT sector, in the international accountancy, also in the remote technical support and I guess also in call centres - there are a couple of pharmaceutical companies in Warsaw that you could try to contact, otherwise Warsaw is not really a centre of chemical industry at least not heavy chemical industry - but as I said chances that you secure a job in your fields of expertise are not big if you don't speak Polish reasonably well

News / Will Polish people and Poland be forever slaves and nobody? [20]

When Poland freed itself from Russians its national debt was 0.000000 as far as I know.

you are simply wrong then - Poland was indebted to western governments and private banks to the amount of about 40 billion dollars at the end of communism - the debts were taken during the leadership of Edward Gierek in the 70's - Polish economy was quite heavily burdened by the debts in the 80's which among others led to massive inflation (over 1000 per cent in a couple of years) and severe goods shortages
