History / How Polish history is viewed by other countries textbooks [124]

Actually the Slavonic nations of the East-Europe share the same history.
On the contrary to the rest of the world.

There are only some nuances in interpretation of facts and different valuation given to some personalities by local (national) historians.
And as usual the best example makes Mr Bohdan Kmelnitsky - a national hero for Ukrainians, top agent for Kremlin (kinda old fashioned Stierlitz) and Polish traitor for us Poles LOL.

News / 1945-2010 Poles will march on Red square [66]

they probably overshadowed all the pitfalls of our relationship

Sasha, "Chetiriye tankisty" movie created a false picture and understanding of the Russo-Polish relationship among at least two generations of "Soviet people".

And then, after perestroika (oh, how I hate this expression) many Russians were completely surprised - what's going on !? Our eternal friends and brothers in arms don't love us anymore !

You can see the results on Russian Internet boards today.

But it was not the case in Poland - our views were by far more realistic.

I sense that Poland is being lulled into a false sense of security and partnership.

It's obvious to me but at some political level only.

The average Vanias are rather nice sort of chaps - kind hearted, they believe every fairy tale from dyadya Putin.
And take it for granted - I know it - even our Kostik after expressing his quasi "Polonophobic" sentiments here, uses to start an old VHS video recorder and watch the black and white TV series "Four tank men and a dog".

Urrraaa !!!

History / How was Poland compensated after World War 2 [47]

Poland was not in the axis and had the fourth largest Allied army

So what ?
50 years under Soviet boot was all we have gain as our "compensation".

Well ... what kind of compensation are you expecting for a country like Polnad that has lost the war ?
And no doubt Poland was a main loser of the ww2.

History / Is Jozef Pilsudski the king of modern Poles? [138]

Golden Age ends!

No, it just starts.

It's a ground school's level basic knowledge that so called golden age of Cracow and in general of the Polish Commonwealth took place in 15th/16th century, driven by Polish magnates and their money.

It's rather interesting that all this happened first after full polonisation of the German element. Probably every culture needs its national background and hired craftsmen from the overpopulated and hunger striven Reich were not enough to do the job.

With all respect to Veit Stoss ... but who paid him and decided about character of his work ?

But you are obviously overestimating those German influences. After the first quasi prehistoric period of German presence Cracow became more and more Polish with a lot of Italian color.

Same goes for the influence of the Baltic oriented German Hansa.
Cracow used to be a member of it but you better take a look at any map LOL.

Anyway, nice remake of uncle Adolf's good nite fairy tales for Hitlerjugend!

News / Poland's fidelity to support wars and its limits. [46]

these mantras about Russian-Chinese antagonism

There is no Russo-Chinese antagonism, Kostik.
What I see is your common bright future, a result of some peaceful penetration from China and final unification to a happy nation .

I can hardly imagine something better for you - as a medium sized nation of 140 millions you are not in position to control the huge area from Moscow to Vladivostok.

Moreover you can get nearly everything you don't have from China - modern know-how, sober political and economic leadership, all the goods Russia is hungry for !

All you need is to pump oil and excavate for gas and your Oblomov's dreams come true!

Language / Why in the world there are three ways to write simple U ?!?! [54]

I used the voiced "h" when speaking Polish till my teens, when I got laughed at by my peers for this and gradually dropped it. ;-)

I know the difference is still to hear for people from the Eastern part of Poland.
Anyway, you are my Nobel Prize nominee LOL.

I'm ready to offer a Nobel prize nomination to somebody who can explain different pronunciation of "h" and "ch" .
But I've heard there are some nuances.

BTW, I'm a Warsaw born Polish native speaker with many years of experience LOL.
So take it easy guys - no sense in our spelling.

History / What British unit liberated Poland in 1945?? [445]

hat's what you did in 1349 and 1920 in Ukraine.

It's demagogy pure to use the same political standards while comparing some medieval and present events.
According to Kievian chronicles both Poles and Ukrainians used to start local wars every year and armed raids made a noble form of entertainment lol.

BTW. Poles and Ukrainians hardly existed in the modern understanding of a nation.

As for 1920 ... what was wrong about the idea of the Polish - Ukrainian cooperation ?
And before you say "perfidious betrayal" ask yourself about Poland's military potential after the bloody 1920 campaign and political power of Petlura.

You may say that about Czechoslovakia in 1938

Interesting.
You are using Soviet propaganda tricks.
Now you should tell us about "liberation" of the Western Ukraine and Western Belorussia.
Using stupid (and lamentable) Polish aggression and annexation of 800 square kilometer to counterbalance Soviet mass killings and death of more than one million people deported to Kazakhstan is simple not fair.

The Goralenvolk weren't seen as Poles by the Nazis.

But they were Poles in spite of German wishful thinking. They simple didn't want to become a part of "Herrenvolk" like a huge majority of us.

Sawoniuk was a Pole. He was born in Poland to Polish parents.

Any proofs ?
It will be the first time I hear of a Pole named Andriusza.
Interesting.

By that time Poland had cleansed its soil of its ethnic minorities,

False.

The rest of your posting contents no arguments.
Words only.

I can tell you the names of two more straight off the top of my head Anthony Sawoniuk (who joined a Belarussian Waffen SS Unit before changing sides when he saw which way the wind was blowing) and Bronislaw Hajda

Sure "Andriusza Sawoniuk" makes a typical Polish name lol.
Same goes for Hajda.
And maybe you have heard pre-ww2 Poland had 30% minorities including Germans ?

In other words - a fact.

Your posting means some wrong suggestion.

Already as a child I knew all Yanks, Britons, South-Africans supplying Warsaw have done their best.

I hope you are aware of the fact that most supplies for Warsaw Uprising was dropped "accidentally" on the German side?

No need for this kind of sarcasm.
RAF pilots helping 1944 Uprising are respected war-time heroes in Warsaw.

History / What British unit liberated Poland in 1945?? [445]

The only more or less proven fact of allied troops' presence on today's Polish territory were general Patton's tanks seen in Swieradow April,1945 .

regioset.pl/mapkagif.php?x=121&y=618
According to prof.Lojek who investigated the local population of Swieradow, Patton's tanks were withdrew after two days because of Soviet political intervention.

However there are no reports on this "raid" in Patton's memories.

From April 17 Patton occupied western Czech Republic and probably south-western corner of Lower Silesia, acting against orders of Eisenhower. We can only guess what were his intentions. Without a doubt, he saw the possibility of liberating large areas before the Soviets would conduct them. Does he also considered the realization of his idea according to which "after the defeat of Hitler, it has to be deal with Stalin"? Well known for his aversion to the Soviets, but the most capable and most erratic of the American generals, he was close to establishing contact with the army, which he saw as an enemy rather than an ally. Was he close to provoke - conflict or major incident between the superpowers? Patton alone does not solve the riddle of this book, published a collection of his war experiences. In fact, however, it does not contain general structured memories. He did not manage to write it down, since in the autumn of 1945., near Mannheim, he had died in a mysterious car accident. Perhaps there are archives, and maybe also a credible reports that could shed more light on the Patton activities in the area of Świeradów Zdroj. Meanwhile, we are left to remember that one of the corners of our country was liberated in 1945 by the United States Army.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

What I don't like about "Katyn story" is that it's being used as cover to hide Russian crimes in the East-Poland.

At least one million Poles in Kresy (today Belorussia and Ukraine) were killed, frozen to death, starved etc. etc.

My family had to escape to the German zone in order to survive.

ou telling me at least how Alemania could "steal" the glory from Poland??

Was not my point. Sorry.

Yes, I do.
Definitely.

You are a typical Pole Borrka

No doubt about that.

How did Germany "steal" the glory from the Poles??

Once again:
I'm not referring to the "stolen glory" problem.
Perhaps my posting was little off topic.
Bur recently I had a long discussion with some young Germans who were deeply convinced of the GDR-leadership in fighting communism.
Amusing ?

the province was grabbed from Austria only as late as in 1741.

Yep.
It has got exactly the same "Prussian tradition" like Poznan or Wielkopolska lol.

Have I mentioned Poles or Poland ?
All I say is: Germans tend to create myths which are hardly in line with historical truth.

History / Does Poland deserve credit for the 1989 Revolution? [87]

Germans are masters of the universe in creating national myths.
Today they speak of "German antifascists" and 1953 "revolution" in Berlin. Tomorrow - and take it for granted - we will hear a great story of German anti-comunist underground in the GDR.

Allzeit bereit !
