Hobbies of students?

Yes, hobbies of students, too! Now, what students? And why do they write about hobbies and other things? What is the occasion?

As for volleyball/siatkówka/retina - oops, I meant that the sport`s name is ambiguous in English! not Polish!

messages for the wailing wall?

I must remind you the photos were taken in Poland, there are no wailing walls here... :)

You may well have to give up!

No, I was joking. I never give up with my students!:)
OK, let`s recapitulate what we have. Jewish side: a bottle opener, hamsa. Polish side: a mug with Krakow motif. The last picture shows yellow sheets of paper with Jewish stars and some words. What is written on them and by who?

It's not wrestling is it?

No, wrestling is derived from to wrestle which isn`t ambiguous, as it has one meaning. While the sport in the photo comes from a name which is quite equivocal because its primary meaning concerns sth else. Hint - the name of an object used by people, especially by individualistically oriented Poles.

:( It's not anything to do with the Jewish Culture Festival is it

Sorry, no. I will show you the last photo from the series to help you guess. If you don`t solve it now, I give up. :)

So, again - what was the situation which encompasses the last 4 photos?

The hamsa is an important symbol in Jewish culture.

A hint - another photo

The things from these 3 photos played their little roles on one big day.

Don`t make a fool of yourself now. :) I have never hidden it, and you also refered to it in other threads.

This quote was for Dirk, whose original post was removed while mine stayed and was combined with another. Now it all looks a bit misleading.

History / Study Shows Irish Voters Rejected the Nice Treaty Referendum Due to Poland's Entry Into the EU [80]

It's not a 'study' your original post is full of factual errors

It is simply unbelievable that one might try to smuggle in such blatant BS and expect people to swallow it like geese. I have a serious suspicion that it is admin or mods who play games with us through the false profile of ShBrits in order to introduce some spice into the forum and make us be more active. That member`s opinions and ways of discussing things are simply too grotesque to be true. :):):)

SB, in case you really exist, change your nick and start anew because, after the BS you presented here, you are blown. In every other thread where you appear you`ll find our allusions to your preposterous lies exposed here. :):)

Law / PIT declaration before the next tax year [5]

Strange expectation, I must say. I have never heard of a case that you can submit your tax declaration in advance, even before you know the exact earnings which you are going to get from the company till the end of the fiscal year. Companies are obliged to provide each worker with PIT 11 which states your income for the previous year, but it happens after 1st January.

Feedback / Interview with PolishForums owners [13]

Guys, you are talking about the most irrelevant thing, skipping other important info from the interview. Who really cares who/what the Admin is? Does it in any way influence the quality of the forum? It doesn't; admin is not here to discuss.

History / Study Shows Irish Voters Rejected the Nice Treaty Referendum Due to Poland's Entry Into the EU [80]

They voted against both questions on the first referendum, and voted for EU enlargement on the second...

That`s how I remember it too, Polish media adn politicians didn`t make a fuss about the first rejection because they knew it had nothing to do with Poland. Why does SB try to say that white is black is a mystery to me, too. Why is that person lying and spreading false info in each of his/her post? And using such stupid arguments as below:

You on the other hand have approached this with female thinking.

I see. That`s the main argument to defend your agenda. Indeed, true Pollack thinking it is. :)

Your anti European agenda is to thick. Don`yt count that Poles will stop cooperating with the EU after a few of your silly lies.

Feedback / Interview with PolishForums owners [13]

I like reading interesting stories and never cease to look them up. Recently I have come across an interview with the creators/owners of the Polish forums. I couldn`t find its English version. The date in copyright footnote suggest 2017.

I translated almost the whole text, leaving parts I deemed less important.

The forum was set up by a webmaster and a programmer in 2005. Initially, it was meant as an experiment. Later it developed into an official site.

A few people are constantly responsible for running the site. The admin is a Polish person living and working in the USA.

Its primary aim is to become the biggest source of information about Poland, Poles, Polish culture and tradition available in English.

The forum wasn`t established purely for commercial reasons. That is why advertisements are almost non-existent here. Most costs are covered by people who own the site, while about 25% by members and supporters. Admin and mods work for free, spending from a few to a dozen hours in front of the screen daily. The forum isn`t sponsored by any "group of influence" , owners try to keep it as objective and flexible as possible.

Sometimes users complain about the quality of moderation in the forum. They react negatively to threads like: "Why are Poles always gloomy and never smile?" or "Do most Poles like stealing?" or "I hate you Pollacks." Members claim that forum owners aren`t patriots, but they believe that through reasonable discussion it is possible to blow false stereotypes about Poland and Poles. It has happened many times that people who initially believed these stereotypes were true, later on changed their point of view after reading sensible counter arguments. Thanks to such open discussion on poignant issues an agreement might be reached for the common good of both Poles in Poland and abroad.

Freedom pf speech is treated very seriously here. Some users would like to read only positive opinions about Poland and Poles. All unfavourable ones should be removed, according to them. However, the owners want to avoid censorship which prevailed in Poland from 1945 to 1989. Of course, the content which doesn't conform to the detailed TOS is regularly edited or removed.

The following things are the most time consuming for the forum keepers: moderating hundreds or even thousands of new posts every day, keeping them in proper order, helping to solve users` problems in private mode, working on innovations for the forum .

Does this have sth to do with the new exhibition which has opened at The Museum of Islamic Art in Jerusalem?

Well, I know nothing about it. :):) The photos were taken in Poland a few years ago. Thanks for that hamsa, though, I didnt` know the name and I still must read about its role.

History / Poland's society at communism and socialism time [55]

Poland opened up considerably in the 1970's and 1980's -

Delph, I told him/her to do its own research. Don`t make it so easy for them, it is unpedagogical. Those kids really think they know everything by studying Facebook. :)

Am Pollacks, obsessed with their "true" indentity which has little to do with real Poles." :)

Aah, this was painful to learn sth about yourself, wasn`t it? :):)

The only change over that time was the fall in living standards...

Sorry, this proves you know nothing about those times. I have to give you an F for that appalling ignorance. But I don`t have time to teach you know. :) Study some books, diaries etc.

Well, considering you left Poland in her darkest hours for bright and sunny, safe and comfy America,

Wrong again. 1.5 year stay isn`t leaving, I worked hard and earned enough to buy myself an apartment in a big city in Poland.

Well, don`t give up. Next hints: the first letter of the ZKS abbrevaition refers to the name of the region in southern Poland which is located on the border of the western part of Lesser Poland. Also , the last letter refers to the sport itself, whose name in English has always sounded funny to me as it suggests sth completely different from what contestants do in it.

Oh? Didn't you and your family also spend time in America during the PRL-era?

Wow, it seems not only Johnny Be Good keeps regular record on other members. Ok, it`s fine with me, if it helps your memory, why not.

Yes, but it happened in 1980s. As an expert, you should know the difference between 1960s and 1980s in Poland. Those were two different Polands. Can you tell us what you know?

Dirk, you`d better not laugh at SB, he/she did quite well, while you still haven`t answered that riddle I gave you in

polishforums.com/travel/poland-photo-riddles-25380/70/#msg1678840

part of the monument to Pilsudski in Krakow. It's the grand wedding cake Baroque architecture of Belvedere Palace in Vienna!

Yes, very good. All in all, I am ready to offer you a B. Not an A because I am a bit nitpicking and can`t close an eye to the fact you needed one hour to google that info. But a B is still a great result. So, again, congratulations.

Do you have no challenges left?! :)

Well, I have, of course I could make it even harder but there`s no need for that. You got your B and that`s enough. Just rejoice and tell your parents at home.

Besides, I never concentrate only on one student, I devote my time and energy to other too. Now it`s all members` turn to take their guesses..

You must have complained so much to your school about having to visit that local Pilsudski statue that they sent you away to Vienna

Yes, exactly, how did you know? After visiting Krakow and Zakopane, I complained to our head teacher those places had been too boring and decided we needed to go somewhere else to see true diversity. , So off we went to Vienna and Paris. Students were amazed at what and who they saw, they had never met so many ethnically diverse people living happily together. They said they wanted Poland to be like that. I promised I would do my best to help them. I am sure you support my point of view.

much to your Zionist chagrin)?

No, I don`t think it is so bad. :)

Guys, after this little SB contest, business as usual. And Polish contexts only.

What and why?

I managed (once!) to get funding for a trip to the UK.

We too but I didn`t go. I hate monarchies. :):)

SB, you fared very well on two pics, congratulations. There is one more for you posted right above (medium difficult) and this new one below, somewhat harder.

See you tomorrow, you woke me up early today, I need to make up.

Yes, great.
Don`t exaggerate with that hunger, it is not 19th century. :) Besides, students can`t go on their own, somebody must take care. Thirdly, some trips were sponsored from EU grants. That is why our students love the EU. :)

Delph, those alliances are so twisted that it is hard to remember them all. Sorry, no Olimpia. A hint - the name of the city doesn`t show in the club`s name - they used the name of the region instead. Geographical and historical name.

Yes, Polish students celebrating Polish National Flag Day.

Aah, good, here you are. Wrong answer but never mind. You were asked another more important question

I will post a few pics from our school trips and you will try to guess the places, not only in Poland. OK? What say you? WHAT SAY YOU? You fight or not? :)

So, let`s start with sth easy

Where are the students? Guys, this is only for SB to answer:

You don`t know the flag yet (never mind that I asked SB about it). Natural. But think: what kind of a flag can it be in a high school?

I don't know why they're holding out their arms, but that looks more like the pledge of allegiance

Why don`t you know why they are holding them out? Can you see the flag? :)

Ok, so it is indeed a pledge of allegiance. What kind, exactly?

But rather because the term "professional student" acknowledges those with teaching jobs (for however long) lack of any real world experience.

Hey, will you show us your world experience? :):) I will post a few pics from our school trips and you will try to guess the places, not only in Poland. OK? What say you? WHAT SAY YOU? You fight or not? :)

BTW, did you notice that red flag in the Polish photo above? What do you think of it? :)
