USA, Canada / American...Polish Resident...Returning to the land of milk and honey [103]

see, if I wanted cold weather, I'd be prepared for it. I'd love to go skiing, too... But here, I don't even have central heat in my house! So I bake myself in one room, the one with the tv, puter and an electric heater and come out only when absolutely necessary.

lol Oklahoma? Not warm enough.
I freaked out this morning when the water in the bird bath was frozen solid. First time I saw it in Florida. So I booked an extravagant (in price only) trip to sparsely populated bahamian island. Only to find out later that it's 5 degrees colder there!

USA, Canada / Expat Poles swearing allegiance to the US - how did you feel? [157]

America isn't gonna change for no one.

America is changing all the time. The thing is to gave some balls and keep pointing out the stuff that still needs to improve. We got a better chance to do that here than anywhere else in the world. It's the speed and the degree of possible changes we can argue about.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

how people dont understand why they live in the USA rather than contribute something to their own country.

You really don't understand?
How about fuller, more enjoyable life?
Warm weather.
More bang for your buck.
Better service.
Less aggravation.
And this 'toilet cleaning' bit just reinforces the image all the immigrants are trying to live down. Most have to do a little clawing to earn the good life. Besides, sometimes cleaning toilets is better to get where you're going, then kissing ass.

Love / Polish women- submissive or dominant? [58]

Most women know instinctively what their man's ego is fragile about. They navigate it like a mine filed. They slowly work on what they want, sometimes with the man not even realizing that he's being manipulated. They know to defer to the submissive role around his buddies or coworkers, but they also know how to tell him what they're "worried about" - when he's feeling most manly and protective. Is that dominant or submissive?

As far as sexual roles of dominance and submission, women that like to play (not just because he wants them to), can usually play both. That's because many powerful women, after taking care of everything and everybody all day long, find it exciting and liberating to have someone else take over and make all the decisions for them. But if the guy does not know what he's doing, she can probably teach him..

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

You just can't stop thinking about me now can you? That's okay, happens all the time.

That reminds me: all those positive qualities mean absolutely nothing if a man is inconsiderate, self absorbed, arrogant or controlling.

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

What makes men attractive is their confidence, self control, intelligence and a sense of humour.
Those that think it's their "looks" that is the problem, most probably lack one or more of the above.

Life / Mental health problem or one of the grieving stages? Death and denial in Poland. [93]

One of the hardest things to deal with after you loose a loved one, is people trying to come up with something to say to you: if there's anything I can do (no there isn't, unless you can bring back the dead), I know how you feel (no you don't), if you need someone to talk to (last thing I want to do)... all those things used to p!ss me off to no end. Maybe she is a genius and she'd figured out a sure-fire way to make sure nobody tries to make her feel better about his death.

If that is not the case, then I would not try to bring her back to reality without a trained proffessional and some serious drugs around.

That said, if I had my choice, I'd rather have the fantasy... I wish I could make myself believe that he's just away for a while.. As it is, any thought of him causes me mental and physical pain, so I try not ot think about him at all, and that is so unfair to his memeory..

Let her be.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

buying yourself a new toy works for a while, too. Shopping in general works for many.. For me - thank Jah for internet.
Otherwise, I wish I could escape this foolishness and hide out in some God forsaken third world country from Thankgiving till New Year.

Travel / Experiences in Restaurants in Poland [10]

good to know!
In my experience though, if a dish comes with two sides, it usually will be indicated somewhere on the menu.

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

well, I manage an engineering team consisted of software engineers, DBAs, system admins etc. that supports a mainframe database at a bank.

I really don't like managing people either. Is that what makes you so unhappy with your job? I made a conscious choice to stay in design, even if it doesn't get me as many promotions. Love my job.

I find my job stressful as hell, I’m not sure what makes you so happy about yours.

ah.. designing a board and watching it fly a year or two later.
