USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

Is it an expensive place to life? Whats the night life like? I am not too far from the sea here, so I am immune to the smells of the sea.

Spent there only one day so I don't really know how expensive housing is.Hard to say since sale ,state and property taxes differ from state to state and county.wWouldn't expect "fireworks" when It comes to nightlife.

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

So many Poles stay illegally in the US

And ofc you know how many?Show me statistics ,or stop talking b******t It is 2010 not eighties.

I live in Poland as well and have had nothing but grief trying to deal with immigration

Then GTFO, nobody needs you there or stop b*******g Love it or leave it sucker.

that EU will make it a requirement for all US citizens to have visas to any european country

Not US citizens but US diplomats.Check the facts before posting.
To those who want to come to US for vacation:you going to spend money there and you let them hummiliate you? There are many nice places around the world where we don't need visas.

To those who want to come here to do menial jobs:think again coz you are better off working in EU ,belive it or not.

I prsonally have never had any bad experience crossing US border ,it was either nice chat with immigration officer or just "how you doing sir?"One extreme situation took place when I came here for the first time long time ago with "work and travell ".My bro got drunk and we had little fight on the plane. After landing we were both arrested at the airport.I was so upset that I told the immigration officer that I am going back with the next plane coz I don't want to be around this azzhole(my bro). The officer (black dude) looked at me and said "America is a big country ,you can go here or you can go there.U don't have to be around him".We were both released.Maybe not exactly on a topic but from my experience the worst b*****s working for USCIS are 3rd world immigrants not born Americans,I learned that during my PRC interview but thats different story.

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

I once knew a Paki who studied in Germany for a couple of years. I told him I was Polish and he did not know where Poland was on the map. How's that for ignorance? Stupid Paki I say :)

You mean Pakistani right? As for him not knowing where Poland is ,this is actually good thing.I hope nobody in Pakistan and few other countries knows where PL is or that it even exists.

Law / Visa Stamp if you overstay (American with a Polish Wife) [29]

where?Look if he was a foraigner and posted it on some american forum he would be called a "crimminal" thousends times already.Hey ,even on this forum if you go thru some threads regarding out of status foraigners in the US you can see a lot of hatred(coming mainly from Americans)and lecturing ("do it right way" "get out" and so on) .Now, why these ppl are quiet now?It is called double standarts you know that, don't you?Besides, US border patrol officers do their job.(if that is what you meant).

Law / Visa Stamp if you overstay (American with a Polish Wife) [29]

Damn illegals and overstayers.I am 100% for immigration but do it right way and get in line like everyone else. You are low breaker dude! Some would even say criminal(like they say in the US).

Anyway good luck (seriously) with fixing this issue,I am sure it can be done.

However, what you've described doesn't sound all that bad so I hope the authorities are not overly petty and can see this for what it is

The law is the law and I hope everyone is treated same way ,no matter where they come from. How come when Americans break immigration law overseas its no big deal but when foraigners do it in the US they are being called criminals???

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

Nah, all you really need to know in that language is Allahu akbar. C'mon, how hard could this be?

Inshallah is also very usefull.

But again, with this logic of present EU, EU can not unite.. Destiny to seperation

This is exactly what I am talking about.I don't expect it to happen overnight, its gonna take some time but common language would speed up and strenghten integration.I mean lets experiment and everyone start posting on this forum in his/her native tongue. We just need to find someone to tax,so we can pay translators.Think of jobs creation!

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

I personally would prefer of course german as EU main language with english and french seconds but I'm also okay with all 3 used officially...but I for sure don't see a reason to make english the one and only language...I believe Germany will stall and demand then in turn more rights for german, it would come nothing good out of it for english speakers...;)

Ok,here is an idea.Lets kick UK,Ireland and Malta (I don't think they all european anyway) out of EU and then declare English an official language of EU.This way nobody's feelings get hurt.Fair enough?(We can invite them later on ,when we get over language issue).

What about the quality of roads and infrastructure? Health care? You can't privatize everything

I think you misundertood me.If you save money on translators and translations you can lower taxes(more jobs) or build roads or invest in healthcare or spend it on whatever else you wish.

Are we talking EU or not? ;)

yes we talking EU indeed.

Listen...you can do with english what you want but the topic was to make English the sole lingua franca of the EU

I was rather thinking of bi lingual system.English only on EU gov level and native tong/English in each country's administration.Bi lingual system exists in many countries.

I always thought Norway was liberated in 45 or so.Am I wrong?

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

Now why should english become the one and only lingua franca in the EU again?

Do you have problems with understanding text BB?It would be one and only, only in EU gov bodies. In Germany it would be german AND/OR english.

Ofcourse money could be spent more efficiently, but what if all the money was spent so efficiently that it would render millions of people jobless or even completely useless

Maybe lower taxes???

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

How much would that cost? How do you legally force people to learn a new language, especially when it was never a job requirement to begin with?

Think long run(regarding cost).Ppl are already being forced to so many things that I don't think it would even matter. If you would want goverment job in any of EU countries you would have to speak english.Plain and simple.

If you don't see benefits to offset the billions spent on translation, you're just paying people to dig holes and fill them back up again and call it a productive job.

That's what I am talking about. This is YOUR money ppl and it could be spent much more efficiently.

The trade off wouldn't be worth it.

There is no trade off.Going to gov office in lets say Lithuenia ,you would be able to get things done in either lituenian AND/OR english,in Poland either polish AND/OR english and so on.

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

Because you're thinking of the EU as a superstate, which it's not

Isn't EU heading this direction?

See, translation means jobs.

Well ,you can waste the money thousends other ways.Hardly jobs creation.

they tell us they expect us to give up our language

I do not expect anybody to give up his native language, but expect to being able to get things done in gov offices in either country's native language OR english.

News / Official language of EU (is not Polish) [119]

I don't know if there was ever a thread regarding this issue but I find it ridicules that every nation (even the smallest ones) wants to speak its own language in Brussels. It already cost you guys, living in EU BILIONS of euros ,since EU has to provide hundreds of translators for parliament in Brussels and only God knows how many more elsewhere. Why not set as a law that there are TWO official languages in each and every country(except UK and Ireland ofc) of EU,national one and ENGLISH(since its most widely spoken language in the world)?Ofc I can see French and Germans opposing the idea (pride?),but I think it would strenghten integration, make expats life easier and save you some money. What do you guys think, does it make any sense?
