History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

Nope, GW. The Russians simply had the Germans outnumbered. Wave upon wave of Russian soldiers were what defeated the Nazis. That is the main reason they won. They just had wave upon wave of soldiers while Germany only had one quick attack ;)

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

What's your opinion about it? Do you think it's true?

I think it could of happened, definitely. It sounds like someone wanting to make a statement about the war.

News / Polish Primate condemns EU's anti-Christianity [29]

EU is a form of 'soviet' and as such,

You could make that same argument about the US, united states with clergy separate from government. Why is it when any group comes together to create competitive trading conditions people start yelping "communism" or "soviet". Wouldn't you make the same argument about the US?

Genealogy / Any Polish Tatars here? [95]

My dad's aunt has all that information and has traced the family back a good five hundred years or so on my Grandmother's side.

Genealogy / Any Polish Tatars here? [95]

Tatar Poles differ from most other Poles by being more aware of their heritage and origin.

Or maybe just nomads trying to keep their culture in a foreign land?

Polonia / Polish people have no presence in China and most people are confused! [16]

Guys, what is wrong? Are we Poilsh, just so stuborn and worry about little things like a carp for Christmas?

Poland could strategically and logistically make it's presence better known in the next twenty years. The countries with the greater influences. Germany and Britain, have gotten their products out and have accepted a lot of immigrants so people in other countries no more about them.

History / Watch Poland grow and shrink (interactive map) [52]

The size of the state doesn't matter! Look at Alaska, for instance. The biggest state yet it has very little representation. Hardly anyone lives there. What is important is what goes on within the borders, not the actual size ;)

UK, Ireland / Do Poles in the UK pretend to be uppity because they have an inferiority complex? [60]

Uppity is a word spat in condescension. When someone wants to feel superior to another, they call them uppity. There's no such thing as "uppity". It's an artificial definition used by people who feel threatened and insecure.

I've heard and seen the word applied to all sorts of situations. Mostly to blacks and whites, hardly ever Mexicans or hispanics. It does seem to occur when discussing certain races.

UK, Ireland / I worry about the Poles working in the UK [77]

Things are going to get rough in the UK over the next couple of years. The Tories have slashed public sector jobs and the private sector is probably not going to soak them up, leading to higher unemployment. VAT is set to rise too. However, benefits are probably going to be cut.

Not a good time to be a foreigner working in the UK.

I wonder what kind of effect this will have throughout the world? It might not be so wise to go about slashing everything so quickly. What good does shrinking the economy do?

News / Polish twins have different fathers [67]

In a rare, but possible, event a Polish woman has given birth to a pair of twins from different fathers.

I didn't even know that was possible!

History / Former American President Adams in Poland. [54]

Did you know that if King George would have been more sympathetic to the colonists there might have never been a revolution and we might still be subjects today. It was the fault of the English king for being so callous and inflexible. If you are thousands of miles of ocean away and a King is treating you like crap, why wouldn't you revolt against him?

Food / Turkey for New Year's dinner in Poland? [29]

Is the turkey meat simply used up in sandwiches or put to some more creative use?

One thing you can do is make a fine soup out of the matter. You can even throw in some black eyed peas for luck.

Love / Your Thoughts about 20 Year Age Difference Between Men & Women in Poland? [74]

ANY comments and ideas more than welcome and appreciated.

I was looking at the list of people who applied for marriage licenses in a local paper. One was for a 63 year old woman and a 25 year old man!!! I couldn't believe my eyes and thought that had to be a misprint.

I guess if those two can tie the knot, a 52 and 30 y o can, too.

Genealogy / Kostka: Decendant of Patron Saint? [6]

You could be a descendant of his or you could possibly be named for a town which bears his name. If your ancestors lived there they might have aquired the last name of the town at some point...

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

There are people who groom themselves before walking out the door (and don't over eat and drink themselves to sleep every night) and there are people who don't, it's probably that simple.

So true. A lot of it is eating lots of fruits and veggies, drinking lots of water, not smoking and drinking in access. You can usually tell who has done a lot of partying...

USA, Canada / Which countries are Americans usually traveling to? [114]

Democrats have done this to us by refusing to let us drill our vast domestic oil reserves.

Dude, the guy who did this had one of the biggest energy corporations around at the time. He was a private business man elected to the senate. He was trying to put the small time producers out of business in this country so he could increase profits for the corporations.

specially the U.S. gov everything they do is bought by special interest the congress

Yup, and that's the biggest problem, Marek. Govt is way too cozy with big business. I wouldn't trust anyone too close to the banks, Wall street or energy corporations. Did you know it was one of our own senators who made it more profitable to buy oil from the middle east than to buy it from our own domestic producers. He totally threw them under a bus!

Nah. Natural beauty sustains.

Not really. If you look at a picture of an elderly person when they were twenty or teenagers they look completely different. That's why their pictures are so fascinating.

USA, Canada / Which countries are Americans usually traveling to? [114]

Why? You think the Mexies don't like us that much? Like us more?

It's hard to say since we can't poll everyone there. Polls are manipulative, deceptively leading people to believe they represent an entire population when all they represent is maybe a tiny fraction.

44% of Mexicans like Americans (better than expected)

There's probably some error in that poll unless they managed to ask every single Mexicans and is it all Mexicans or just Mexicans over the age of 18?

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

Most people are average looking and when they get to be middle aged they start going down hill if they don't go to cosmetic surgeons. All natural beauties are under the age of forty.

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

That's why men get hair implants and transplants and all that. Women have to get implants and transplants too, just usually not hair. Both men and women have to enhance their looks or they usually aren't that attractive.

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

Men have things that women don't have to worry about like going bald so they just shave all of it off so they can control nature and get there first. Men aren't encouraged to cultivate their good looks the way women are, so they might not go out of their way to enhance their looks. Most the time they aren't pretty boys. Some might be ruggedly handsome though. A lot of men look silly with bald heads because their heads are shaped funny but they either don't care or don't realize it. Women look better because often their hair is long and hair tends to enhance one's attractiveness while baldness tends to detract from it.

If we could just encourage these men to look like models instead of grizzly guys you would see a lot more attractive men out there.

Which is why we cannot afford to be xenophobic or people will think we are fascist jerks across the board. Do not give into your dark side. Wonder what opinion Mexico has of us?
